The Doc touched upon an important point: it is a " shamelss retro throwback" that is "uninspired".
With no reverance/respect for their own history, it is no wonder that Rolex no longer supports repair on watches 25+ years old.
It's all about a new reality nowadays. Take a look at the new Yachtmaster. The next step Rolex will presumably take is to make a myriad of limited editions
Supedome Tropic 19 is totally different than the later flatter version.
And yes, 5513 looks completely different with a Superdome T19 installed.
Any purist collector of genuine vintage Rolex would try to have their collection portfolio's Sports model iterations fitted with their respective original Superdomed crystals
Here's my Superdome 19, which is original to my '69 5513:
Very easy:
By copying Takeshi Kitano's brilliant movie called "Violent Cop". The Reservoir Dogs plot is 100% ripped from the ending of Violent Cop. The name designations (Mr. Blue, Mr. Pink, etc) was from a 60s bank robbery movie.
If any of you have never seen this movie, or another one of Kitano's movies called "Sonatine", you need to go and rent them immediately.
The trouble is that the H&R's are not light.
You can also try Bavarian Auto or AutohauzAz for shipping quotes.
Be prepared for a stiff ride, especially with Bilsteins.
I don't know, B&R is getting played out bigtime. I'm only talking about the square series. Too bad. As a company, they were a nice addition to Sinn, Tutima and IWC. In fact, they even shared parts with Mr. H. Sinn for a while. Those days are over. Can u imagine Sinn making a white ceramic cheesy fashion watch with a horrid white croc band!! Too bad everyone wants to make a PAM!
The waiting list for these new watches have been insane since the Basel show many months ago.
Rolex will sell them like hotcakes.
But at the same time, Rolex will be selling out on their integrity. Just my opinion, but Rolex really has no respect for their own past anymore. Sad but true.
Don't get me wrong, they are nice models, but in an Omega kinda way.
It's nice, but I'll take the 'regular' limited edition ceramic doppel instead.
My reasoning:
1. I ain't no pilot
2. If I was going to buy a watch that would forever remind me of Maverick + Iceman, it would have to be a real Top Gun watch such as a Porsche Design anondized 7750.
It is apparent to me that IWC is starting to 'cheese out' with some of these silly limited editions. Come on, Le Petit Prince? Now Top Gun? And those stupid commercials? What ever happened to understated elegance?
IWC should make a Nascar Edition
Huge difference between 28k BPH & 19.8k BPH. I can spot the difference from far away. I've been collecting genuine vintage Rolex for years. Most who are new to watches would be able to tell this difference if they had a chance to see a 19.8bph watch in person.
