  1. Congrats Dutchy! What a big accomplishment! Cheers
  2. Ok, I did. Sure, the court of public opinion is not Federal Court, but come on! :nopity:
  3. I hope that there is a new slow beat 7750 with the reliability and nice build quality as the fast beat 7750. This would be a real treat in this day & age.
  4. Nice Nanuq! I never ever have any time to sit and relax these days. And my "room" is not quite set up like in these pics (they are at least a year old). These old pics mostly were an attempt at featuring my revolving love affair with vintage Acoustic Research speakers. And there are nowhere as many speakers in this room under normal circumstances. Anyhow, the point here is to let you all know that I enjoy sitting in this room, whenever I get a moment to myself. This is my special place aside from the garden out back. One of the setups from a long while back... The Sansui is fully modded easily pushing 200W RMS with capacitors the size of 16oz. beer cans And I'm not talking about contemporary 200 Watts. We're talking about true vintage WPC power, which is a totally different story.
  5. Sometimes it does indeed bother me. Usually, I cannot stand a movie or TV show that is based upon a "technology". For example, the Philip K. Dickk book adaptation starring the idiot crown prince of Scientology, Minority Report. All that stupid handwaving in the air to operate those computers was ridiculous. Or the myriad of TV shows & movies that show some stupid PDA-type device with a map with the enemy 'blinking' on the screen. ARRRRF!!!!
  6. What happened to the world news feed? I reallly enjoyed it. Just wondering if if will be back. Cheers
  7. Fantastic movement. One of the very best by *gasp* ETA.
  8. It's funny that you mention this topic. I've been wondering myself what has happened to the good ol' TW Best reps. There were indeed a lot shipping out of TW a few years back. Maybe the island had a serious crack down on rep makers? Maybe they've been eclisped by the fakest city on earth (Shenzen) and the boutique makers in Thailand? Who knows. What I do know is that there were some great reps that came out of good ol' Formosa. My favorite was the Sapphire SD that I should not have sold years ago. Oh well, you can't have 'em all now can you (or can you ).
  9. Aaron Tan can custom make anything you want. Here's mine
  10. 3717 all the way for me. Who would wear a Petit Prince watch? Not me
  11. I was wondering if anybody can tell me where I can purchase a clear acrylic watch stand. I know that I can buy them downtown, but they can only be purchased in bulk (50+). I don't need 50, I just want 1. Cheers
  12. There is a difference in quality - I know first hand. I bought EL's 3717 from the first batch made. It was perfect. I used this version to fully mod. I then purchased a slower beat version. The watch did not have the same overall finish. The dial markers looked off, the movement was sticky, the date/day wheels were very crooked, the lume was poor, the caseback engravings were not as sharp, etc... A nice watch, but EL's version was superior in every way.
  13. Sub = most common watch on this planet. If you love top ten pop music, guzzle Coca Cola everyday, seen Live Free Or Die Hard three times, call a Big Mac a real burger, consider Budweiser the King of beers, well, then the Sub is for you Don't get me wrong, I love my 5513. It is one of the greatest tool watches ever made. And I know that the Sub is thee most innovative watch ever designed (spawned 1000s of copies). But it is as common as bad manners in this country and most any other country on earth.
  14. My experiences: Well, I have disassembled reference 1016 many years ago and there was not a datewheel underneath. I have disassembled a non-date 1560 and it had the datewheel function. I also pulled apart 1565, and, of course, there was a datewheel. I've also done the same with 1570 and 1575, but all my 15xx series Rolex have the date function. I am familiar with 1030, 1560, 1565, 1570, 1575, 1520, 1530 as I've owned/own them all. But I am not particularily a Rolex frankener (although I have built a few from the bottom up). Mmmm... It is now up to those Frankeners to chime in.
  15. You know what? I highly doubt that there are any extra gears because I believe that they all had the date function ready to go if needed. Historically, Rolex made the same movement(s) compatible for different reference models. Why? The idea was that every 10 years or so, a new caliber would be created that would be used 'across the board'. For example, in the early 60s, it was 1560 + 1565. Then the 157x series replaced it in the mid-late 60s. Then the 303x series, etc... Anyhow, let's see what others have to say.
  16. I would make a 1680. Too many 1665's around here IMHO. If you take your time, you can find a genuine dial and genuine rhodium-plated Tritium hands + genuine crystal. Trust me, most of the fun is the actual thrill of the hunt. Once a project is complete, you will be aching and yearning for more projects. Anyhow, go for a 1680. Best regards
  17. Now I get it... The lack of sleep for the past few days has made my mind somewhat loopy For being an OEM vintage Rolex collector for 15+ years, I am somewhat stumped by this question since I have never modded any 1570 movements. I am pretty sure that you can just slap in a date wheel. Perhaps some other veterans aside from me could chime in here. Avitt, Ubi, etc.?
  18. By the way, as a side note, these 'rules' also apply to 1560 and 1565.
  19. For GMT function: No, the extra gears are in the mainplate, so there is no 'screw-on bridge' that is added to the movement to make the GMT function. Thus, a 1570 cannot be turned into a 1575 without someone making a new mainplate to accomodate the extra gears. For date function: If you want to add the date function, simply install a date wheel and a dial that has a date window. Both the 1570 and the 1575 have the date function.
  20. Both movements have the date. Both movements are always marked "1570". Some other watches aside from GMT 1675 used the 1575 movement, but by and large, 1575 was used in 1675 and 1655. There are exceptions to this generalization since there was a surplus of manufactured 1575 movements for a few years that found their way into other reference models. Rolex used parts as they came across caches of them, so nothing is 'for sure'. But it can be said that in general, 1575 was used for references with an add'l hour hand.
  21. Best regards to you & yours You are not alone and you have all our support. I understand... My pop is dying of Leukemia. I have watched a big strong lion turn into a feeble decrepit little mouse.
  22. It is not possible since the mainplate would have to be reshaped (not to mention the fact that you'd have to custom make extra gears as well). Let's put it this way: if this was a viable option, it would've been done years ago. The only way to enjoy a 1575 is to save up and purchase a GMT-I before the prices surpass the $5k price point (which will be soon - mark my words).
  23. This watch is my next purchase. I have been waiting forever for this one. PS. Still waiting for a non-chrono Aquatimer, too!
