I found a couple of gen shots at similar angles to some of my shots. They were also taken with similar harsh lighting to what I used.
Once again, I'll try to get some better shots soon.

Looking good!
Thanks Ubi...Great compliment coming from someone who really knows Rolex.

It looks good to me. Is that a gen insert? I've seen gen inserts with both the pointy #4 like yours and the wide topped #4...I'm not sure why the difference.
Actually Toad, after trying a few aftermarket inserts and comparing them to gens at an AD, I went back to the stock SSD insert.
It does have a gen pearl though.
I thought the thinner font of the aftermarket inserts looked great until I compared to the SDs the AD had. Then I compared the stock insert and it was almost perfect.
The AD was a Rolex shop that had several watches, including an SD in an outside display window. I could spend a lot of time comparing without being called out by the AD.
To be honest, I thought the watch was EXTREMELY close to the gen. The biggest issue was the rehaut (By-tor was right as usual), but with this little mod, it looks MUCH closer to gen.
-
I tried a little refinishing to the rehaut on my year + old SSD.
I have to say that I was really surprised how much it changed the look of the watch.
All I did was a little 600 grit wet sanding and then polish it a little with a cape cod. No reshaping at all, just a cleaner and slightly more polished finish.
These pix aren't great and it looks a little more polished than it does to the naked eye due to the reflection of the direct flash. I'm hoping to get some better shots in the next couple days.
Thoughts?

Congratulations!! Best day of your life, now prepare for the best year of your life!!
No girls for me...Just 2 boys.
Oldest is 18 years and youngest is 15 months.

I know this won't help now, but here's a link for just serial #'s....maybe just for future reference.
I find myself using it a lot.
thanks cht...this is pretty cool.

"It would be very meaning ful to...all of us ho"
How appropriate!!
I'm sure Obama has been waiting eagerly to receive advise from Pamela Anderson on how he should run the country...

bk uses the wm pearl and jewelry outlet insert. Hes a sub master so i trust him.
Hes modding my euromariner for me and thats what he going to put on it.
Thanks again viz...I think I'll order one.
-
I think so.
the new wm9 that is coming out is a z with no engraving.
Chris's (et) might have come wth no engraving but still used the case with the m serial still on it.
Rolex made tt subs with m serail and no engraving form what i've heard. so a ss with m serial and no engraving is possible
Thanks viz...Anyone know for sure?
-
The PMWF insert is fine for the vintage subs- 5513/5512/1680 and 1665. You pop out the pearl and install the ofrei illumines dot- not bad.
The WM pearl and jewelry outlet insert is for the modern Sub- the 16800/16610.
Thanks alligoat...I'm interested in the modern sub inserts. Do you have an opinion on which supplier has the best insert?
-
engraving was prolly removed.
I'm having bk remove my engraving.
Hmmm...So does that mean that the WM9 that PT sells without engraving has the correct "Z" serial #?
-
I think it's the one from PMWF
This is the link for the vintage if you click on watch spare price you will also see another insert

Thanks Cats...I'll check it out.

I just got a PT/WM9 sub from one of the members here. It's a very nice watch.
I decided to put a noob hollow mid link bracelet on it. When I removed the bracelet it came with, I noticed the serial number started with "M", but this watch doesn't have the rehaut engraving. I thought all "M" serial number watches had the engraving.
Is this just an inaccuracy with the rep, or am I wrong in that an "M" watch can have no engraving?
Thanks,
Mike

That's right, I forgot, France and Spain bankrupted the crown on the open ocean. lol 'France'. That has to hurt.

What's worse is that I can't stand Soccer, but enjoy NFL & Hockey. Maybe we should emigrate
Then you'll like this:
Rugby and Aussie football are surely manly games, but the reason our guys wear pads is so they can make hits like that.
BTW - That's my new favorite Bronco. He started the year as a special team rookie, but last week he started at fullback, middle linebacker, and special teams. Something that hasn't happened in the NFL in a long time.

My wife (who hails from that side of the pond) said something similar
Your wife is obviously a smart lady. My complements to you for marrying someone like that!

I think the general consensus for the best aftermarket pearl is Watch Material, but who has the best insert?
Is it Jewelry Outlet?

In regards to rule #11...We'd have to cut our balls off and learn to drop like we were shot by a sniper every time someone looked at us funny in order to stop playing American (or men's) football and start playing your football. And stop sending people from that continent to the NBA!!! They are trying to bring that same girly tactic to another of our games!!
...And, you make it sound like the British granted us our independence...We kicked your ass and took it!! (How's that for a typical American Nascar lovin' yeahoo statement?!?)
I have to agree with the beer and fish-n-chips comments though.
Now go brush your teeth and leave us alone!!
P.S. Why doesn't Liz smile and show us her pearly yellows?
-
I dont want to comment too much on this case, since I think that turbo himself will update you all on the progress if he so wishes.
What I can briefly tell you is this: We have already been in contact with the Edinburg police as well as some other law enforcement agencies in the UK and got help to some degree, but some more action needs to be done before Interpol can be engaged.
Damn...You are truly the man wiseman!! The membership of RWG never cease to amaze me!!

Sweet!!

Wow...Those are some decent bands!! I voted for your boys and I really like them...Also liked Shade, The Broderick and Still Time.

Take a look at this:

I'm pretty sure it's the same watch but with rubber strap and $20 cheaper. If you're the typical PAM guy, you'll be mount an after market strap on it anyway.

I just bought this on the bay:
Not bad for a 53 year old movement.
I probably over paid a little bit ($92 + $3.95 shipping), but someone else wanted it pretty bad too. We kind of got into a bidding war.
I've been watching these for a few weeks now and this is one of the cleanest movements I've seen.
I want to pull the movement and build a watch, just not sure where to start. I've seen someone install one of these movements in a fiddy case, and I've seen t install one in one of his cases. I think I like t's better. (If you're reading this t, any chance I could get a hold of one of those cases?)
Anyway, I'm open to suggestions.
Thanks,
Mike
SSD bezel extremely tight
in The Rolex Area
Posted
It sounds like the bezel assembly may be dirty from the manufacturing process (They don't always clean them well.). I've used a silicon spray lubricant before when Ive had the same problem. Silicon is a non greasy lubricant that doesn't attract dirt. It also works well to keep the bracelet from rattling.
For the pearl, use a 2 part epoxy. I've used a 5 minute 2 part epoxy before with good results. Just mix up a little (make sure to work any air bubbles out) and dip a toothpick in it to form a little drop on the end of the toothpick. You only need a very small amount. Then touch the drop to the top of the lume in the pearl. The epoxy should run down the lume dot and fill the space between the lume dot and the steel ring. Make sure the pearl sets level until the epoxy sets up.
The first CGs I did were on my SSD. I followed Gio's tutorial pinned at the top of this Rolex section and I think they turned out nice.
Good luck!!
