  1. ...Or is that we are less suspicious and more trusting in the EU??
  2. Maybe you've hit the nail on the head - Is it because the USPS so unreliable and so much stuff goes missing ?? The postal system to and from the UK seems pretty good and in probably 100+ watch related mailings, I have only ever lost ONE watch (that was at Christmas when a lot of students are taken on part time by the mail companies!)
  3. I often browse the Members Trade area of this forum and I'm dimayed when I see a watch that I would consider buying only to see the dreaded words "CONUS ONLY !". As a member of the European Union, that cuts the number of members watches available for me to purchase by about 50%. What is the big problem with US members not wanting to send their watches outside the US?? In the past, I have managed to buy a couple of watches and straps from the US (posted to the UK) with absolutely no customs problems at all... Am I missing something? Can someone explain why US members of this forum are so petrified of trying to send anything across their borders? In contrast, I have sold a number of watches in this section of the forum and the majority have been bought by RWG members from the US ! - again, no issues with customs and it maximises the number of potential "customers" for me !
  4. Great - do they do one to match the alloys on my wife's Peugeot 306 ?
  5. Fantastic shots Pug, as always !! I'm waiting for mine to come back from K2222 complete with double AR and The Zigmeisterfied dial - I can't wait !!
  6. Sorry for those that like it, but IMHO that is probably the UGLIEST watch I have ever seen !!!
  7. Just tried it and it's still down - unless Paul has renamed his site (which he seems to do occassionally !!).
  8. I'm a brain surgeon ... - OK, I lied !!!!
  9. I'm devastated - I only used to post so I could get a Gold Star or a Zing from Victoria...
  10. I have two POs from Silix and on inspection of the movements they are both stamped ETA 2834-2 (not 2824-2 or 2836-2 as advertised !).
  11. Thank God you're back Victoria - my collection of Gold Stars and Zings has taken a dive !! PS Hope you had a good holiday (sorry, "vacation") !
  12. klocklind1, you are very lucky!! I ordered a 183 Black Seal Radimir from Silix a few weeks ago and he has told me that there are no Swiss 6497 Swan necks available at the moment so I am having to wait... and pray....
  13. Sorry mate - there's no such thing !!
  14. That sounds like bad news !! Got the message I was hoping for today - "En route to delivery depot" - HOORAY !!
  15. As I said, I had not seen this particular message before and it's been ther 24 hrs already. I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed that you're right Mickey and you're wrong TeeJay !!
  16. I'm awaiting the return of my SFSO from Silix (following repair) and according to EMS it has arrived in the UK. When I checked the Tracking through Parcelforce (who deliver EMS parcels in the UK), it says "AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGING". I've had lots of watches delivered via EMS/Parcelforce before and this is the first time I've seen this message - should I be worried ??
  17. Where can you buy a house in the UK for
  18. They don't come much fishier than that !! Completely the wrong caseback for starters...
  19. There seems to be quite a few RWG members getting into making their own straps. One member (Plant) posted this recently: More home made straps !. Plant sent me one of his straps and I decided to post a mini "review" with some pics. The strap is quite an unusual design which is what caught my eye in the first place and when it arrived, I immediatly removed the python strap that was adorning my Pam 111h and swapped it for Plant's. My first impressions were that as he had only just started making straps, it was pretty good ! The leather is a light brown "oiled nubuck" type (I'm probably way off the mark but that's my untrained conclusion!). It is stitched down one side only with a fairly thick white nylon thread and the whole effect has a "chunky utility" feel and look which seems to go really well with the simple dialled Pams. I think what makes it look so good with my 111h is that the dial of the watch is plain and simple and so is the strap. Plant had only put one hole (at the correct place for my wrist size and this adds to the strap's simplicity. The leather he used is very soft and supple and needed no "wearing in". It's the kind of leather that will easily get marked and scratched which, again, will merely add to it's overall "character". There are a couple of "negatives": the hole made for the buckle tang was a rough hole which was tight fit for my flat buckle, the notch that had been cut to take the buckle was too small and needed enlarging with a sharp knife and the stitching on the underside of the strap is not very straight (but as you don't see it when you're wearing the strap, it hardly matters ! Overall, for a beginner at strap making I would give Plant 9/10. I'm sure the next ones he makes will have all the "minor faults" ironed out. Plant is a very nice guy to deal with and if you fancy a strap that is a little different from the "run of the mill", give him a shout and have a bespoke strap made.
  20. It's only a rep. skin - not a gen like RWG !!!
