What Does The Fa Cup And My 3646 Crown Have In Common?
Finepics replied to Finepics's topic in The Panerai Area
Cheers Pug!! -
Most of you are aware that I am working on a killer 3646 project and today I took the crown, which I had removed the raised Brevet lettering from, into Harrods watch repair department to have the Brevet and the cross engraved into it and to my complete suprise the company that they have sent it to in Manchester are the same company that engraves the FA cup and have done since the dawn of time - chuffed or what!!!
-
Oh dammit - there I go again!!! You are absolutley right - now where did I put that spliff!!!
-
Actually I might take a little credit here - this is the reply I had from Ken last week after I pointed out to him the problem with the bezel markers: "About the Pam187, we are still working to get that model released. I know the bezel is not so great on the first model so we will try to fix that problem as well." So there you have it - from the horses mouth. Read into that what you will but it will come - not a case of if but a case of when.

Fellow Dealers - Please Blacklist This Guy
Finepics replied to trustywatchguy's topic in General Discussion
Oh lord - here we go - don't we just love the RWG. This is why I hardly ever post at TRC - it's plain boring by comparison (no offence to Admin intended). -
And that freaks me out dude cos I keep thinking you are a cat! (your avatar man!!)
-
We are not allowed to drink at work because we operate machinery that is potentially dangerous - but smokin dope aint no big deal!!
-
Now that's an interesting thought - Hmmmmm indeed!!

I Think Perhaps I Shall Not Darken This Place Again.....
Finepics replied to Justasgood's topic in General Discussion
I have come in for criticsm in the past too and all you can do is ride the storm and let it pass, some of it might have been justified but some of it definitely not. I have had a Daytona sent to me where a piece of lume had come out of a marker so that is not unusual. I have also had a watch (a PAM) where there was a case clamp that had come adrift and had jammed in the going train so I would not say that you are to blame in any way. The watch was most likely like this when you had it and because the lume fell out of the marker that was a reason to open it up and see other problems which might have gone unnoticed otherwise. There have been many cases of poor QC in the rep factories and this might just be a simple case of that. I would not give up on us just yet - from what I have read it seems that you have acted in good faith - not sure what else you could have done! -
Absolutely!!! Although I am wondering about Kruzers suggestion - not so mad at all

International Watch (iW) and QP are two that i get all the time. iW is monthly (a US mag) and QP is a quarterly UK mag. Both are full of excellent info.

Ar Before Or After Cyclops Installation?
Finepics replied to archibald's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Coat them together after the cyclops is fixed to the crystal - it's much easier and much better that way. -
Yep - prices are in Yen - http://www.etaworldgoods.com/

Oh bugger - you're absolutely right - stupid me I was not concentrating. Post ammended - TA.
-
I have the same pics you are talking about - I just did not want to post them here yet!! I say bring it on!! If it's good enough for YSL (and he aint no bigger than me) then it's good enough for me!!!!
-
I would love you forever if you could make a bezel. The crystal is a touch more pointed but not too much that it bothers me. I will PM youi as I have taken dimensions and made a crude drawing.

Normally, I'm A Diehard Rolex Man But....
Finepics replied to lionsandtigers's topic in The Rolex Area
Is that the gen or a rep? -
Here's my latest version: And the real thing: If only I could get that bezel made but the cost is too much.
-
Holy poo - I forgot it's that big!! Wow - will have to start with the steroids before strapping it on!! C'mon you dealers - who is bold enough to commission this baby?
-
And the case is fairly simple so would not be difficult to make this one. I guess the movt might have to be an ETA 6497 or an auto of somekind but a great project for any of us lucky enough to source the Angelus!!!
-
Seeing as how there is a rash of new PAM's appearing how about this one? Would sure like to have this on my wrist just like Yves Saint Laurent!!! Any makers want to take this on board I have more photos with a stripped down view (those caseback screws go all the way through the case to the bezel!!!).
-
Hey guys - just had word from Ken at eta world goods that he now takes Paypal for orders. Also they are still working on the 7753 187 and one of the things they are trying to do is correct the copper plated bezel markers - still no time frame but it will come.
-
As I mentioned before the movt is the good ol asian 21j so it would have a reasonably long life and accuracy. It is interesting that judging from the photos it looks as if the case is from one of the usual makers so it's not a piece of crap construction wise.

How Soon Or How Fast Should We Expect This Rep To Come Out?
Finepics replied to woody's topic in General Discussion
I remember some time ago I had met up with PT and he told me then that the rep makers were going to focus less on Panerai and more on IWC - well the former was perhaps not so accurate but the latter definitely accurate - so I would expect to see a lot more of the IWC range and the big pilot is an obvious one to make as they can use the ubiquitous (scuse me Randy) ETA or Asian 6497 and may others would make use of the 7750. -
OK - This silver coloured gear is driven by the crown/stem and moves into and out of mesh with the brass winding gear (just above it) which is connected to the mainspring barrel. It moves into mesh with the brass gear when you wind the watch with the winding crown - then when watch is wound, and while wearing it, the rotor takes over the winding/topping up of the mainspring and the silver gear moves away from the brass gear so as to disconnect itself from the mainspring otherwise the rotor would be trying to wind the crown/stem as well. The rotor connects with the two little gears to the left of centre in the top photo and they are connected to the mainspring barrel - these gears have a clutch mechanism that allows them to freewheel when the crown is turned otherwise the rotor would spin round like mad when winding the watch (if you remove the rotor and wind with the crown you will see these gears spinning but the weight of the rotor when attached is enough to allow the clutch in the gears to activate). So - this is perfectly normal and necessary to prevent damage to the rotor gears. As I said these parts are not hammering into each other - they might make a clicking noise when operating but that's all it is - just a clicking noise and if it did not do this the watch would not work.
