  1. It looks fine to me - I hope I can achieve the same outcome. Cheers
  2. This is a very timely thread. I am planning this mod and have found this shared knowledge very useful. Thanks guys!! If you have the time and inclination photos would be really appreciated but as things stand the shared info is appreciated - Cheers
  3. Read this thread before you continue down this path. I wish you luck if decide to continue your attempts - Cheers Thread on why not to attempt removal of LV bezel
  4. I believe your point to be prescient - it may very well be a beginning of changes in the Rep world that we are witnessing with significantly higher prices coming. At some point the cost of certain Reps may not make sense as they approach the cost of some desirerable Gens. Time to enjoy this hobby while it is still affordable.
  5. I never had the opportunity to purchase from Eddie Lee but read very good things about the quality of reps he sold. You have a real attention getter there - very nice Datejust. Cheers
  6. I believe that almost all reps are made by the same manufactures with the exception of MBWs. Josh is a Good dealer and sells good watches. The difference between Ruby and Josh is that Josh is a drop shipper like Andrew and others. Ruby actually takes delivery of the watch before shipping and then sends photos for inspection before shipping. It is a nice service. I have purchased from Josh and Andrew and have been very happy with the watches I received. The gen dials fit fine. I have put them on Asian movements and on an ETA with no problems. The legs have to be removed and the dial glued to the movement. But those are the only modifications necessary. What Datejust model did you buy?
  7. I have one from Ruby and it is really good. It is a two tone version with domed bezel and oyster bracelet. I swapped the dial for a genuine Rolex Anniversary one in charcoal with gold Arabic markers. The dial was not bad but in no way could it match the genuine dial. Here is the photo with the gen dial. Please forgive my poor picture taking skills. Here is another in all stainless steel Datejust that Came from Ruby. I also put Genuine dial in this one. Overall, I am very happy with the quality of the new Datejusts and will be very good even without a dial upgrade. Cheers
  8. I am planning to drill the lugs on my older model Sub and need some guidance. I found these spring bars on eBay and would like an opinion on whether these are the correct size. If not can somebody point me in the right direction for buying some. eBay auction for Sub spring bars Thanks
  9. I stick to the Two tone reps. All gold has too many wear points and plating will wear off over time. Less area plated - less area to wear off - if the plating is just on the crown and bezel it should wear well - a two tone bracelet will wear better than an all plated bracelet but expect wear points to show up in time. Claims of plating thickness really are of no value - just sales hype in my opinion. Cheers
  10. I take a look at the storage case and whichever one grabs my attention at the moment is the one I wear. I like breaking style and fashion rules so I do not consider matching my watch to what I am wearing. I like the incongruency of a sports watch for business and dress watch for casual wear. The only consideration I do take into account is the level of abuse a watch could take from planned activities that day: so I can restrict choice if I am going to be working or playing outdoors. I like variety and rarely wear the same watch two days in a row. Cheers
  11. Having money does not ensure having good taste
  12. It has a different set up and really is extremely difficult to remove without bending the it. The click is some absurd design that moves in an entirely design direction than the wire spring of the older Subs. I spent a good half hour prying mine off only to bend it good so that I could not get it to stay on later. Eventually, I had to glue it in place to have it stay on the watch. I posted pictures of this bezel set up a couple of months ago for others to to see as it is completely different than the spring click type - search the upgrade forum to see the mess.
  13. The search function will provide you all the answers to your question you require to understand why not to do this and you will find photos too.
  14. Never ever and even after that use Fedex for international shipments of reps. Fedex always means trouble for international shipments. Sorry for your troubles. Next time you will be wiser from advice found here. Cheers
  15. Thank you for the update Sir.
  16. Can anybody in the know offer an update as to how far along this is? Has production begun or is it still on the drawing board? Thanks
  17. I just finished two projects: - 1) a new gen dial for my all stainless Rolex Datejust - The dial is set a little off in the picture because I had not installed the the movement clamps. I just wanted to see what it looked like an snapped a quick shot. and 2) a new case and new modded bezel for my LV Sub. The sub needed a new case because I damaged the original bezel and had to glue it in place. I am going to replace the pearl next. Five months ago the best I could do was adjust a bracelet and now I am trying new mods every week.
  18. Yep - that is what I am thinking. No collecter buying thing. It makes for a good prop in a scam.
  19. I think the watch was just given to him by somebody at the shoot. "here wear this watch it will look better. He likely has never worn a wristwatch more than a few times in his life. Hey Keith - What time is it? "Ah...Who cares mate."
  20. Thank you for putting in the effort to dig up that interesting material and sharing it with us. It was a good read. Cheers
  21. I would love to see pictures of the finished project. Cheers
  22. I am all over this watch - bring on the pictures
  23. Hi - here is a quick update on my progress: I have discovered that the case originally held a Rolex non-date 1570 movement. I sourced an ETA 2836-2 movement and it is a very close to perfect fit diameter wise and the crown and pin are able to fit the movement and screw down into the crown tube. I think this is a good start. The back of the movement still is short of the case back and I will have to make a spacer or mount the movement with the 2mm by 1mm plates thatscrew onto the movement and protrude out to the edge of the watch case and hold the movement to the case. I am thinking I will make a couple of these pieces as I have the tools and will use a drafting erasure shield as source of metal of the right approximate thickness. I have an aftermarket TT Oyster bracelet and pristine blue non-date Oyster dial and new hands are on the way. Thanks for the advice all - I just started the rep mod thing this month with a dial swap on a Datejust I am not new to watches but have never opened a case until I joined RWG and took upon myself to follow others and try my own mods. I have discovered that the only way to proceed is with infinite patience and plenty of magnification. Anybody who contemplates a mod should read and re-read threads in the Mods section. The search function offers a great resource and I have used it often. Also, I have read the through the mods section and when I needed specific info posted a question to the forum and received good advice. - Thank you all who replied to my query on this thread !!! The is the result of this project to date. Cheers PS - I will post photos of this project at some point.
  24. I have gone the other way - I once had four gen Rolex: 2005 TT Datejust, early 90's SS Datejust, early 60's SS Oysterdate precision, 80's TT Datejust plastic crystal Datejust - sold everything but the 80's two tone Datejust and did not buy anything for a few years until I found this forum. I am having the most fun with watches I have ever had. I can comfortably afford this game, whereas, the gen game was just too expensive for me play. Losing money selling off a few watches from the rep pool just does hurt like losing money selling off a gen. I took a beating on the 2005 Datejust because I bought it new and sold it a year and a half later - new Datejusts depreciate a lot in first few year before settling down - lesson learned - 50% depreciation on a $200 rep is hardly noticeable. Thanks to RWG and the members who have posted what they know, I am having a blast !!!! I have even accomplished a few simple mods of my own and am on my way to learning and buying and selling more. I know I rambled on a bit long about myself but please do share what gens you are considering Mr. Pug - I am genuinely interesed to hear your considerations. Cheers
  25. Stephane - what would you do with the cash if you did sell those unworn reps? Would whatever you did with money make you happier than keeping the reps? If so go ahead and sell - if not keep em. You need to think about what you really want to accomplish - now if you are fishing to guage interest for possible sales .... it is there - so go ahead and post them on the sales forum. Cheers
