Yes there was, I believe the early models (1997-1999) had a closed caseback (see photo of ref. 5160 below). For 2008, PP has changed the sizing and layout of the watch meaning a genuine caseback from the early incarnation would not fit. That is, if you could get your hands on such a rare part. I also strongly doubt you could get your hands on the crown of a 2008 Patek Philippe aquanaut. Even as a genuine the watch is a poor seller - starting price is roughly $17,000 and it's stainless steel and rubber and fairly readily available. It's the ultimate "throw your money in the garbage" expenditure. Also, I don't rightfully understand why so many of you are yelling "wrong date font" - I would say it's a tad too small, but I'm not going to judge until it spends 31 days on my wrist. 1999 Aquanaut

Well, as a Patek Philippe aficionado, I respect you for choosing this brand - it really is behind some true horological masterpieces. This watch, a gentle tribute to the REF 5970, may not be the most accurate - but it certainly has a style all its own. I'm sure you're going to get a lot of looks, and believe me, so few people outside of the WIS community know the brand well enough to spot the flaws. I had one similar to this... it died.

Ever since I joined the replica community, disappointment has frequently risen to one of my most popular emotions. When replica manufacturers continue to make the same mistakes, or screw up things they did correctly before, it begins to get a little unnerving - especially now that ETA movements are starting to get replaced with clones and prices are rocketing into low-end gen territory. It's not limited to Rolex. I would describe it as the obsessive pursuit of logically unattainable perfection.

The movement is what makes the watch tell time. Why on Earth you would keep the old, notoriously unreliable version instead of upgrading to the very robust 28,800? I know that accuracy in appearance is one thing, but I think many people are willing to sacrifice a slight and eventually inevitable visual inconsistency for improving the longevity of their very expensive watch! I don't want to sound like I'm crapping on your idea but this is the ONLY reason I didn't get the current-generation $400 watchmark HBB and at least I have you to thank for making up my mind on the second generation HBB!

MBW/MBK Watches are the same thing. Very simply, the are the name of a small factory in Thailand (Most reps come from China) that makes very high quality replicas at high prices using Swiss movements. Sold by Narikaa and others.

This is the ONLY site I contribute to with posts (don't you feel lucky?). I enjoy browsing Timezone but that website has a much slooooower pace.
