  1. I believe that. But from all those hundreds of red Sub pictures I scanned (before I did my review) I've never seen a genuine dial with the red SUBMARINER font that's used on the reps. Not even one single watch. I've seen some scam attempts at TZ and they have always called out the font. I'm not saying they don't exist since the white ones have always came with both fonts, but I'd like to see a legit red one before I believe it.
  2. You're correct of course. And I know it has been produced with the bigger coronet. I included this picture in my review: However this dial seems to be very rare, I haven't seen many of them around. The rep dial (my old 1680 on the left) is indeed quite close, but the rep SUBMARINER font is different enough to be easily spotted every time, regardless of the color tone. Or have you ever seen the red Sub with the font that doesn't use the straight "S" (like the one below)? I have seen modern subs with the font that uses "straight S"... and I have also seen them with the other font (that's used on the rep). But never, ever a red 1680. Even the largest example of the font you posted is clearly lower than on the rep (plus completely different font). For me this is a giveaway (unless proven otherwise), others might see it as a meaningless detail.
  3. Ahh... I thought it was your watch. If that's the only sales picture I'd pass. How can you except to sell a 1680 with a picture like that? Suspicious, to say at least.
  4. Come on TT... spill it out now already.
  5. Gen Navis come with 7750 too. They're Swiss 7750 though.
  6. Black with red hands looks sporty and cool. That one without a doubt.
  7. Yes. The red "SUBMARINER" font is oversized on all red 1680 reps. It's a dead giveaway. Rolex never produced a red Sub with big font. It should look like this (cherry red and much smaller font). There's no such problem with the white version. Also the bigger coronet is extremely rare on the red dials (it does exist though). But look at the shape of the coronet and ROLEX font in the reference pic. This is the most common red dial on 1680.
  8. Damn...I'm getting the MBW itch once again. If I now had to choose one MBW I'd probably get this... or the white Dweller. Both are such amazing watches (when the mods have been done). That oversized red SUBMARINER font always annoyed me on my red 1680. Must resist...
  9. You have fantastic collection of vintage oysters Pismo. I have always admired it!!!
  10. Edit: I'm almost certain it's genuine. Late 70'S model? If not, it's hell of a rep. But then again I'm not a vintage expert...
  11. Wow...amazing job!!! I don't know how I have missed this until now. Thanks for the compliments and remarks mate. I also noticed the Rush song "Time Stand Still" played there. How can you not love this broadcast? PS: you can always freely use my pics as a reference (wherever you need). Thanks mate...great, great job!!!
  12. Very, very nice job. The white 1680 is SO much better choice than the red. I agree...those crown guards still needs some thinning and shaping. Perhaps reduce the cg curvature from above a little bit. The cg's are not as curved on the gens... like this picture nicely shows. Other than that... fantastic.
  13. I guess it went out of production because this rep got a "slow start". It didn't generate much interest when it first came out. But neither did Breitlings generally, either. Partly because most old reps were so bad. If some model doesn't sell, they'll stop making it I guess... Breitling's popularity here has exploded in the last 6-7 months, which is nice. Almost all the "bread and butter" models have been replicated very well. Personally, I'm still waiting for the Steelfish.
  14. This is my favourite dress watch: Of course it's not a dress watch, but I always wear it with a suit (just like Bond). Navitimer TT would look beautiful with expensive suit. TAG Link Chronograph is very dressy chronograph too: Ebel would do as well: But like Clive says: Gentlemen should always wear their watches with a strap when they're wearing a suit. I disagree, but I'm not sure if I'm a gentleman in traditional sense. Of course there are lots of better dress watch choices than these (Breguets, Pateks, etc.). But I only own sports watches... and these would probably do. Just don't wear a orange Planet Ocean with a suit and you'll be fine.
  15. There's a small gap even on the genuine when it's on your wrist. It was too big on the 42mm version though. No such gap on the"ultimate" any more. I mentioned this in the review.
  16. This works for some quartz-powered chronographs. Never with automatics.
  17. Very nice indeed. My "Broad Arrow" hands Speedy is partly a hybrid, partly a rep of your watch. Definitely one of my all time favourites. Movement:
  18. Yeah, it's better than the 4th gen. But if you forget the bracelet and clasp issues 4th Gen is still very, very good rep. Definitely a keeper too. I'll put mine on a rubber strap as soon as I can find one that fits (properly).
  19. AMAZING shots as usual my friend. Third one especially. I love how the bracelet finish shows in the picture. This rep is just too good. I snapped comparison shots too. Hope you don't mind me adding them... The "Ultimate" with his "little cousin". And with "little brother".
  20. Happy New Year Puggy. I don't drink or smoke... but I took one beer today in a BORING New Year party I briefly attended. PS: Many new nice watches and pictures for you in 2007!!!
  21. The factories often make it to home with stainless steel reps... but when it comes to TT Sub they can't even get to the front porch. The genuine is just SO much nicer. PS: Fantastic GMT mate. Red/black is my favourite too.
  22. @cskent: Congrats!!! Beautiful gen Seamaster. Maybe one day I'll get one as well, it's probably my favourite of the SMP line. Especially with that "old style" Bond bracelet. Enjoy!!!
