seamaster 2541.80 restored by omega...and a great job they did too...
bamcky2k replied to bamcky2k's topic in The Omega Area
thanks guys really appreciate the comments of support. i really hope he pulls through to see it as a week after it got sent off is when he fell ill. i was with him back in 99 when it was bought new, he literally wore it daily til it was battered and bruised and testement to the build on these seamasters it didnt miss a beat...atleast its back with him now, he really does love this watch they have made a 13 year old daily beater look less than a day old... and yes the cost included the service and parts that were replaced. your contacted before any extra work is carried out. the mid-size above looks pretty good though...i'll see if i have pics of my dads before the refurb...then you'll see one beat up seamaster! thanks again guys bamcky2k -
the case end between the lugs is straight, not curved, so the medici wont fit. but with the case built in this way, you can use any normal rubber or leather strap and there wont be a noticeable gap between case and strap anyway...can i suggest the hirsch heavy calf or hirsch carbon as an alternative...both of which are superb and would look great on the superocean.

the bezel had faded from blue to almost grey/silver and was heavily scratched, was also hard to turn...the crystal had scuffs and 2 scratches on it...so it was all replaced as new. -

my dad took it to an AD, it was then sent off to omega, in bienne switzerland i believe. they qouted a time of 3 weeks-it took 7, but worth the wait. check out the official omega website for much more info, they give an in depth write up on what they do when you send them in...i'll try and find a link later and post it look up on google images too for some vintage models people have had done, i think they keep parts for watches over 30yrs old which is amazing. this one arrived back in a red zip pouch wrapped in plastic, and the guarantee for the work done etc. it now has a blue dot seal on the caseback instead of red which was cool too. -
another member posted pics of his 45mm a day or 2 ago and the crystal AR looks amazing...a new batch maybe? who knows...but yea sending it for a coating is an option, id prefer the 45mm too, but the pics ive seen of the 42mm are damn sexy!

yup, exactly as a new one would be! center mirror finish and brushed between, how they do it i dont know...tapeing off the bracelet maybe on the mirror finish parts and vice versa to get the different finishes...but yes, its come back as if you would buy it new. very impressive stuff -
its the review by cougar, http://www.rwgforum.net/topic/156184-ceramic-planet-ocean-review-42mm-and-45mm-pic-heavy/ makes for a great read and loads of fantastic pics to make you want one!

thanks for all the kind words on my dad guys, much appreciated the watch was sent to omega for the refurb. the parts totalled the £470 mark, and just over £100 for the reseal, battery and finish. so yea around 1k in dollars for our american friends! its amazing how they come back looking like new, new parts obviously help, but the refinish of the case and bracelet is superb...it was worth every penny and is now back on his wrist-i coulda sworn his eyes flickered with a smile when i put it on him which was nice thanks again people and glad you enjoyed the pics! my dad is still very ill and is looking at a very long stay in hospital but hopefully this will be a good pick me up for him cheers, bamcky2k -
just picked this back up today on behalf of my dad, he sent it off for a full restoration and a week later was admitted to hospital with flu, turns out a very bad strain of flu that has attacked his lungs and left him on life support...not the best start to the year. i just picked it back up today, and before it goes back on his wrist to be with him whatever happens thought id share some pics. originally from 1999 it had a badly faded and worn bezel, faded second hand and dial lume was abit off, 2 scratches and a few scuffs on the crystal and the case and bracelet wear a mess at best...whats amazing is that it had only had 2 battery changes from new... anyway heres what was done-complete case and bracelet refinish, new bezel assembly, new crystal and gasket, new dial and hands, movement service, battery change and re-seal, clasp spring replaced...i was stunned when i opended the pouch and seen its new form! its sad to think my dad may not see it as new again, but atleast now its gonna be on his wrist where it belongs heres the new looking 13 year old seamaster, enjoy a great job i reckon on a modern classic, and fingers crossed it will have a happy impact when my dad feels it on his wrist sorry about the kinda unhappy post, but my dad loves watches as much as us all and would love to show off this piece, cheers and thanks for reading, bamcky2k

seamaster quartz, just back from a full restoration...

check out threads in the omega section on here, theres some recent ones of the very watch i mentioned...the 007 special editions in rep form have never been good, some say the gens aint either! check out trusty time or perfect clones in the dealer section on here, they both have the 42mm ceramic planet ocean, black dial and silver numbers-this is what bond wore at the beginning of skyfall. its very cool watch and very very good rep! good luck and happy hunting!
-
one is a 21 jewel movement found in cheaper reps (although a pretty good movement in its own right and the miyota is also found in some gen watches...) the other is probs an asian 2824-2 movement which is a copy/clone of the swiss eta 2824-2...again very reliable and robust....(unless they mean an asian 2813/4813 but that wouldnt be $100 more than a miyota...) the 21j movement beats at a slower rate than the clone eta so the second hand will sweep abit rougher on the 21j. but why on earth would you want the skyfall version?! those cheaper reps aint really accurate at all of this watch...why not consider the 42mm ceramic planet ocean which has just been released? yes its more expensive but it is very accurate, has a swiss made 2824-2 movement AND was actually worn in skyfall...

good lord! crystal on that looks the best of all the 45's that have been posted...on par with the 42's...congrats! -
go to an AD, enjoy the experiance, they should offer you a free coffee too when spending that sort of money do it the right way, online grey market dealers may save you money, but surely you want to be safe in the knowledge that breitling themselves-not some online company-is covering your watch warranty...on the discount front just ask, then go to another AD and see if they can beat the price...play them against eachother in your hometown and have fun with it! cash is king too, offer cash instead of a card payment or finance and they will 99% of the time bite your hand off for the sale...when i bought my gen superocean 44 in the uk a good few months back, best deal i could get together at an AD was 10% discount for cash and they threw in a pre owned breitling rubber strap free...if you cant get a discount atleast ask for a nice leather strap (most stores will carry hirsch etc) as part of the deal...also helps if you have used the AD before for other purchases. just my 2 penny coin!

i believe craig is up for a further 3 bond films, which is good...hes developed the character well, and can now carry on further...also heard they maybe bringing back blofeld and specter in the coming films as they now have the rights to...
-
great pick up ry, bet your glad you went for an AT! good job on the re finishing too!
-
good plan, thats not an swiss eta datewheel from what i can see...anyway, the new PO's are looking great-i think you'll be happier!
-
bob holness all the way... for the film versions though i always was and will be a fan of timothy dalton, belieavable plot lines, no ott villains, spying and espionage as well as great action set pieces etc and dalton was the right mix of sophistication and brute force-especially in liscence to kill when hes on a personal vendetta against sanchez...craig would be my second choice and its been a great reboot to the franchise, craig has that air of arrogance for the character but also a vulnerability that is shown more in skyfall, i dont think butler as an actor could pull it off really...
-
which movement did you go for? as vandal said defo 2 different watches as the pearl is different in the pics...ive seen much better dials on this model so keep asking for a good one until your happy, reason i asked about movement is that the date font looks abit odd...
-
this rep is 99% perfect...flaws are almost non exsistent on the white model, id say on the blue, yellow etc the colour may be ever so slightly off but the white is spot on...caseback engraving is all correct although may not be as deep as the gen-but not noticeable, crystal AR is first rate, dial spot on-printing on the text a slight fraction too thick but again not noticeable...bracelet spot on, screws on bezel all in the correct place...it truly is an understated super rep...wear it happily!
