  1. Nice collection, and beautiful pics ! Thanks for sharing. I'm sure you already have (more than) a idea of what will come in 2012. Which ones will come this year ? Paul
  2. grejyedi, I had the same problem. I'm new here, just like you, and it's surprising to find this kind of message when you clic on a link. All this information lost, it's pity ! That's why I use to copy the most important for me on a personal document. I know that all information on internet maybe will not last very long. Anyway, the remaining information here is soooooooooo big, and increasing every day, I'm not so frustrated ! Paul
  3. Yes, I saw that the reassembly of the movement is missing. Maybe that's the last chapter of the lesson : "do it by yourself !"
  4. Usually, this Rolex is really not my favourite. But I must admit that the white is... so pure ! It' beautiful. And your pics give the best of it. And with the leather strap, it's so elegant ! Congratulation !
  5. In my opinion, it is difficult to take the decision only with pictures. You have to see them for real to be able to compare. I like the new GMT hand. But I must admit that when I saw the watch in Basel last spring, I've been disapointed by this watch because of the size. Proportions are changed and it looses the perfect balance of the former one. But probably this is something very personal, and probably some people will feel the opposite. My advise would be to go to an AD to see it for real.
  6. Polishing needs a looooooong training ! And if you do wrong, you cannot fix it. Try on a disposable case first, and check if you feel confident enough to do it on your watch. Probably, you'll prefer to ask to someone else, more expert than you. In any case, good luck ! Paul
  7. Looks really great. Congratulation for this nice assembly ! Paul
  8. I didn't know this watch, I just discover it. Beautiful ! Not so many Rolex are nice with a leather band, but this one looks really great. Congratulations ! Paul
  9. I don't know about US magazines, but in France it is very poor. Two or three magazines exist, but the content is : 50% advertising, 45% so called "information" which actually looks like press release from brands (those which have ads in the magazine, of course), 5% real information or analysis (but, of course, never critical with brands advertising in the magazine). So it's perfect if you want to see nice pictures, or know about the new models from big luxury brands, without spending hours on internet. But if you want real information with analysis and comments, or if you want to know about horlogical history, or about mecanism... it's on the web ! Nothing can replace internet forums for this. Paul
  10. I'm not surprised that you don't know this brand, as it is not so famous. Or should I say "not yet" ? Many people consider that high end watches ("haute horlogerie") only comes from Swizerland (and probably, they think that Lange & Söhne is a Swiss brand). The Swiss watches industry has a powerfull communication, and for sure they will not speak about a French brand. In the past, there was a strong watch industry in France also (in the area near the Swiss border), but it almost completely disapeared during the 70s because of quartz crisis. But we still have schools to teach very good watchmakers. And many Swiss brands work with French subcontractors (mainly for after sales service). Famous old French brands like Bréguet or Cartier are Swiss now. Péquignet is a very old French manufacture. They had difficulties in the past, and went up and down. But they are on a growing trend now. During Basel 2010 they introduced their new movement, with a full in house development. During Basel 2011, they introduced the new range of watches using this movement (pictures above show one of these models). They are beautiful, and very elegant thanks to their size which is not so large (diameter 42 mm). And it is quite flat, despite complications, because these complication were fully integrated since the very beginning of the development process of the movement. Power reserve : 72h. Classical and such a touch of class ! (see the collection on www.pequignet.com) Just one other pic : High end quality watches can come from other countries than Switzerland. With Péquignet they can come from France, and as said by Watt44 they can also come from Japan. Credor and Grand Seiko, brands from Seiko group, can compete with the most beautiful Swiss watches. Paul
  11. I wouldn't say that a Seiko 5 is a "high end" watch. So, in my humble opinion, it cannot be the "cheapest high end watch". If I'd have to make a choice, I would grant this award to Pequignet Manufacture Rue Royale : This watch was presented for the first time in Basel 2012, where I discovered it. Beautiful, and great finishing. The public price is around 4500 € for this one made in stainless steel (other versions in gold are more expensive). Pequignet is a French brand, not so famous yet, and now real manufacture since they presented this watch with a new movement fully developped in house (and including several complications). I never saw any rep of this brand yet, but could we say that this new model deserves it ? Anyway, if we don't speak anymore about "high end watches", but generaly about "cheapest high quality watch", I will immediately say : Seiko 5. It's an icredible quality for the price. Paul
  12. Simply beautiful. Merry Christmas ! Paul
  13. On my wishlist, with just another color. This watch is so elegant ! I don't see any model from other brands that can really compare to this portuguese. Paul
  14. Very nice review, thanks for sharing. It gives me interesting information, as this watch is in my wishlist. But... I'm still hesitating between this black version (classical flieger), or a white dial version (more "dress watch"). I just wonder how is the finishing of the white dial. Paul
  15. I don't like so much the color of the hands and indexes. Looks nice at first glance, but I'm afraid this doesn't last for long, and after a while it becomes boring. I really prefer white hands. Maybe I'm too classical or old fashion... Paul
  16. Phoband, thanks for the informations in your signature. VERY interesting for a noob ! Paul
  17. I heard that it works well with a thin piece of wood (like toothpick, for example). The important point is to use something softer than the index, to avoid any scratching. I must say that I never tried this kind of operation. So, this is an advice without any guaranty !
  18. Waouh ! Cats, I LOVE your watch ! Pure and simple, old style, the kind I'm looking for. What is this brand, I don't know it ? Paul
  19. Type XX is beautiful ! Unfurtunately, little bit thick for my chicken wrist. Today, for the closure of this year, I wear this one : Not high level rep, but it will soon be improved thanks to the info get among you... Paul
  20. Phoband, tanks for the film about fake industry. I really enjoyed the moment when they describe the Lo Wu market (around 6' 34" in the film). I've been there few times, and it's exactly like described. Hundreds of small shops selling clothes, shoes, bags, and watches of course. Locally, people call it "copy market". Reps everywhere, but mainly poor quality and very difficult to find very good ones. That's were I bought a Submariner for 200 RMB (around 28 or 30 $). Good quality for the price, and I really appreciate it. Quite good looking, and only +20 seconds per day. Now, I'm on RWG to find a real top quality !
