  1. Don't fret about being banned there....appaently many of us are. Just one of the downsides of having independant thought.
  2. Or you can go to your friendly Rolex dealer and buy some gen Rolex springbars. Normal charge is around 5 bucks. Some won't sell, or don't have them, but it never hurts to ask.
  3. I have one and really only one complaint with rep Subs, Explorer IIs, GMTs, and SDs. Why can't the rep manufacturers make lug holes to gen specs? Why do we always have to drill them out to fit a gen spec springbar? Dave
  4. I own several Invictas and have never had a problem with them. Mine are all earlier models before they went overboard with big watches, but I have 3 Pro Divers, one ETA2824-2 model, one Miyota auto model and a Swiss quartz "red wings" model. They keep excellent time and always work. I have recommended them to many friends.
  5. Never, NEVER buy a Rolex off Craigslist. I have yet to see a real one sell there.
  6. Many rock bandsw have come and gone. Many are still around. Most of the early rock bands either began or were greatly influenced by earlier blues bands. Jethro Tull, Rolling Stones, Who, and many more began as blues bands. In the later 60s blues and blues-rock bands were common even in the San Francisco underground psychedelic music scene. Jefferson Airplane, Doug Sahm, Quicksilver Messenger Service and many more kept blues alive. As for the greatest rock bands ever...my choice is Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jethro Tull, the original Jefferson Starship (only one album recorded: Blows Against The Empire), Uriah Heep, and Pink Floyd. Many other bands canbe incuded, but these are the ones I listen to the most. To me, most music (?) since the early 70s is junk.
  7. There woukld be no point in an in-depth onkline watchmaking course. Watchmaking is an intense hands-on training and an online course woukld leave you in the dark on so many issues that you would be more lost than if you hadn't taken any class at all. You can be taught some things online (which is almost like being self taught) but the deeper you get into the trade, the more you need to have an instructor there with you ti watch what you are doing. Lathe work, balance work, jewel setting, and things of thast sort are too involved for online courses to go into. You can ruin more than you learn by trying it. My suggestion is to find a watchmaker who is willing to teach you, or enroll in a watchmaking school. Once you get into the real meat of things, you will realize why in-depth watchmaking isn't taught online or mail-order.
  8. I saw Seawolf and immediately though you meant Zodiac. I was disappointesd when I saw it was Breitling. I wonder why nobody has made a rep Zodiac Seawolf.
  9. Vintage 1675 bezels didn't click. Design was like the 5512. You press down on it to turn it and when pressure is released it locks into place. At least on a gen. Most reps the bezel is too loose.
  10. Kernow got it right. Back in the 70s when I was in the watch repair business, the president of Rolex USA made a statement. "If you want a watch that is accurate to the second, buy a $10 quartz. If you want a watch with style, buy a Rolex."
  11. The first rep I bought was from them. It wasn't as pictured, wasn't as described and was a cheap built mess. The real kicker was that they wouldn't accept a return either for trade or refund. It was then I found this site and THF and have been happy since.
  12. When ordering a rep, you are usually better going with the Asian movement. Most of the "Swiss" movements are either Asians or Swiss movements built out of old parts. Never doubt the reliability of Asian movements, though. I have some that are running well after many years and some that are running to well within COSC timing specs. In reality, any watch movement can be reliable and fairly accurate if cleaned, lubed and regulated well.
  13. REal WIS are NOT against fakes....unless it is a fake WATCH. If it is a watch, with a movement and hands and such, then it is a watch and thus cannot be hated by a true WIS. The effort, energy, work and talent that goes into a genuine watch also goes into a replica (fake) watch. Chinese copies are very good these days and I have Chinese movements that rival COSC standards. Any WIS who states that they hate reps (fakes) completely misunderstand the true concept of a WIS. It is Watch Idiot Savant...not Gen Watch etc. Those who hate reps are usually effete snobs or those who are [censored] that others paid so much less for watches that look and often run as well.
  14. I was banned from RWI a good while back as well. FOund this place and don't miss RWI. I stick my head in at RG and the other RWG but here is where I feel most comfortable.
  15. All of this is very interesting, and I agree that Rolex should make parts....movement repair parts, available to any qualified watchsmith. I can see not selling bracelets, cases, dials, etc willy-nilly, but gear trains, pallet forks, balance assemblies, mainsprings etc. should be availasble since they are items needed to keep the watch, which you paid a crapload for, running. Some people save for years to buy that one and only Rolex. They can't afford the prices RSC charges for service. All of this is why I am doing my own service on my recently acquired vintage 5500 Air-King. I paid a grand for the watch, I'm not going to pay another $600-$1000 to service it! Dave
