  1. Excellent writeup. It's hard to find this type of article in a paid subscription magazine - to see it here is another example of how great this site and it's members are! Thanks The Zigmeister!
  2. Ya, I would imagine that with the fixed bezel (and the fact that it doesn't hang outside the case like the rotating bezel) it would wear a bit smaller.
  3. Is the rep different from the genuine? Rolex lists the genuine as 40mm and I was always under the impression that other than the CG's, the Sub and Exp II had an almost identical case?
  4. Until your review(s) of your Tag's, I never really gave them much thought. Most of them that I've seen are at mall kiosk's and are quartz, so they never really 'tripped my trigger'. You have a great eye for picking out understated, handsome sports watches. Congrats on another excellent choice!
  5. Looks fantastic! I've had my V1 WM9 since March (noob dial/hands/date wheel/bracelet, gen crystal, gen insert). I'd say we've definitely found a definitive answer to "who has the best sub"!
  6. I hate plastic retainers. They simply don't work as well as a metal retainer that is secured with case clamps. All of mine would allow the movement/dial to move around in the case when setting the time or date. If you have a dial that doesn't have dial feet (my Frankenjust, for instance), plastic is useless.
  7. The more I see this watch, the more I want one. Looks like something Pugs would own (white dial and all). Speaking of which, I haven't seen him post in a while. Anyone hear from him lately?
  8. There are a couple of us from the Pittsburgh area.
  9. Wow, does that look SHARP on your strap! Really stunning! What kind of strap is that?
  10. Actually, the bezel is the one thing about the 42mm that I don't like. I wish the Gen had the 45mm style like your rep!
  11. Are you sure it's a 42mm and not a 45? The bezel teeth are of the type used on the 45mm PO. In any event, great looking watch! It's a classic for sure.
  12. ??? There are no "legal issues" for working on replica's - at least here in the US, just as there are none for owning a replica. A watchsmith can work on anything he or she wants to. Tell 'em straight-up what it is you're asking them to work on. Playing games is totally unnecessary.
  13. What a fantastic writeup, and yet another demonstration of remarkable watch smith skills. It shows, once again, that being a watch smith has as much to do with an artistic eye as it does a mechanical aptitude. Well done!
  14. Since when is the crystal on the DSSD not sapphire? This is the first time I've heard this, so just curious..
  15. If digital watches were going to end the days of mechanical watches, it would have happened in the 70's/80's when the digital watch was introduced to the mainstream. There is always going to be a market for the 'enthusiast', and bulk of those buyers won't buy a quartz. The craftsmanship that goes into even the cheapest mechanical movement means more to the enthusiast than any technical achievement that comes with a quartz watch. However, I could see a sort of mating of the two becoming much more prevalent. The Seiko Spring Drive is a great combination of mechanical craftsmanship and technological achievement and is certainly a movement that I'd love to add to my collection. With that being said, I came across the first digital watch to even remotely interest me today - it's the Chase Durer UDT 1000xl. I spotted the lead actor from Burn Notice wearing it today and it's pretty sharp!
  16. +1 SS isn't bling, IMO. Diamonds, all gold, etc, are bling. You can't be more conservative than wearing an all steel watch (well, maybe plastic?). Whether you like it polished or brushed is a personal thing, but a shine does not a bling make! I think the Daytona is one of the best 'all around' watches you can own and nowhere near 'bling' territory. Lemme know if you want to part with that Daytona, Freddy! I'll keep it "real" and flaunt it with my homies every chance I get! lol
  17. For me, my most comfortable watch is my frankenjust. The least comfortable would be my UPO (both on the bracelet and the rubber strap - although the strap is worse).
  18. Great tip! I see others claim the rubber strap to be comfortable, but I can't say that's how mine feels on my Skyland. Maybe this will do the trick!
  19. I talked to my dealer and sent him a picture of the dial. He agreed that it's not supposed to look like this and is sending a replacement dial (excellent customer service, as usual). Here are some shots of the dial. You can see that there is something staining the dial - kinda like coffee or tea stains, especially around the rehaut.
  20. Ya, I looked at Pug's photo's and a bunch of others. I just wanted to be sure that what I was seeing was in fact what it's supposed to be. Thanks for the reply!
  21. After having my Skyland for a few weeks, I finally broke down and bought the SOSF I had been looking at for over a year. I went with the white dial version (thought it'd be nice to have something other than a black dial watch) and I have a question for those who have one: Is the dial supposed to be refrigerator white, or off white? The dial on mine is almost a creme color similar to the creme dial Explorer II. Looking at the pictures on the website and some posted here, that doesn't seem correct. I want to be sure before contacting my dealer for a replacement dial. Thanks!
