  1. Mine is doing this as well, but with mine it's the seconds hand coming in contact with the minute hand. Oddly enough, it always seems to happen at roughly the same time (usually around 12:35, sometime 1:35). I thought I had fixed it a couple weeks ago when I removed and reinstalled the seconds hand, but apparently not. Next time I uncase the movement, I'll remove/reinstall the hour and minute hand to be sure they are seated to the correct depth and that they're even. When yours stops, is the seconds hand over the minute hand?
  2. I might have a dead movement I can send you. I'll check on it and let you know. Update: I found it and it appears to be the same movement. You can have it. Just let me know where to send it.
  3. I have to agree about the DJ. For me, it was also the first Rolex I was introduced to, and to this day it is still the first watch I think of when someone says "Rolex". I also agree that if I could only have one watch, it would likely be the all stainless DJ (over the last year or two, the SS Sub is a close second), with a tapestry dial. As you mentioned, it just feels good on the wrist, and it's the ultimate 'every day' watch. It can be worn with a suite or a pair of jeans and function in both roles better than any other watch. SR
  4. Interesting that the crystal is stuck in the bezel ring, but it looks like the crystal gasket is still attached to the case? The crystal shouldn't be able to stick in the retaining ring without the gasket, should it?
  5. I would LOVE to see real investment in alternative fuels, but not by the gov't. Any time the gov't gets it's fingers in something, it becomes bloated, inefficient and non-effective. Gov't doesn't create anything - it simply redistributes wealth. Like most things in a capitalist society, market demand drives innovation and mindset. When gas get's too expensive and/or profits from alternative fuels, electric or hydrogen cars, etc, become worth looking at, that is when you'll see a real/effective effort in alternative fuels and a wide acceptance from the populace. And personally, this is how I want it as this is how the US system works best. If the gov't tries to force it on the market, it'll be poorly implemented and give everyone a sour taste over it. I'd rather wait for the market to drive this innovation and get a quality product, rather than a 'welfare' version that turns folks off of the idea. I doubt we'll be using anything but internal combustion engines for the next fifty years, at the least. By then, technology will have advanced enough, and fossil fuels will have gotten expensive enough, that we'll have real, usable, alternatives (and by usable, I mean USABLE - not just as a 'feel good' gimmick that doesn't work well for anything other than a quick trip to the grocery store) AND an infrastructure in place to handle it, due to market demands. Anyway, I'm getting ready to make my trip back to Pittsburgh. Shouldn't take more than 45 gallons, or so, to get there!
  6. Last time I checked, the oil companies profits were in the 8-10% range (you can look this information up yourself as their profit margins are posted in most business publications). That is in line with any other major corporation. There are a lot of costs involved in finding, recovering and refining oil. These companies spend in the trillions on discovery efforts alone. The costs for simply upgrading/expanding current refineries can cost hundreds of millions. The record profits are from record consumption. It's not some grand conspiracy by the oil companies, it's simple supply and demand.
  7. Yes, I need a V10. No, I don't commute 440 miles every day (I make the trip from Pittsburgh to WV/KY about once a week). The truck is necessary to tow the logging trailer and also, quite simply, to get to the job sites. These sites are on lease roads cut into the WV and KY mountains. No smart car will get you there. Some of the guys on the rigs have diesel trucks and run a combination of biofuel and diesel. If/when I go to a diesel, I'll probably give that a try myself.
  8. 'Nor should it be, assuming you understand how the US works relative to it's states autonomy. The basic point was that you can't directly compare Europe's gas prices, public transportation or automotive trends to the US. It's apples to oranges for MANY reasons. My drive from Pittsburgh to WV or KY is 400+ miles. From 75 miles outside Pittsburgh, to Charleston WV, there is NOTHING but open road and country. Sorry, there is no public transportation for that, other than booking a flight. Even when I worked in Pittsburgh, public transportation from my home to the city was spotty at best. Not because of poor planning, but because of the distance! People seem to forget that the US isn't just NYC and LA (or the tiny Hawaiian islands.) There's a whole helluva lot in between that can't be 'fixed' with a bus, or a small engined car. The present day Corvette has absolutely nothing in common with a true Muscle Car, 'nor does the Mustang (other than the name and number of cylinders). Muscle cars were big block, big inch, gas guzzling beasts. They made power with cubic inches. The current day V8 American performance cars (of which, there are what, three or four?) are excellent on fuel considering the output and certainly when compared to a real Muscle Car. But even that doesn't change the fact that today, the 'kids' are into the 4cyl imports. That is the 'toy' most kids go for. That was the point I was trying to make. Actually, my mileage doesn't drop that much when towing. I get about 8-9 mpg when hauling the trailer. But it's just the cost of doing business. In order to do what I do, that's what it takes. Same for the 'jerk' suburbanite that has the huge SUV. Many of them have big families, and/or boats, or trailers they use for vacations, work, etc, etc, etc. It's cheaper for them to own the SUV and use that all the time than it is to own multiple vehicles for multiple purposes. Again, apples to oranges when talking about stuff like this. I wish people would realize that before making rash judgements about how folks in the US live, work, drive, whatever, relative to this topic.
  9. The higher gas prices are responsible for what now provides my family a living. I got out of IT work and now work as a mud logger/geologist on natural gas wells. The wells we're drilling now weren't economically practical just three years ago. Now they're a big money maker for the gas companies, and my family is benefiting from it.
  10. I live 10 miles from the Shippingport Nuke plant in PA. It's NBD to folks that live right beside it. Frankly, it's the cleanest power plant I've ever been around.
  11. Keep in mind that European countries tax their gasoline differently than the US does. This was a large part of why there was such a difference in prices. Your famed public transportation system is paid for, in part at least, by the taxes on your petrol. Europe is also a much more compact area than the US, so the smaller cars/engines made/make sense there. As far as public transportation and smart cars go, we already do that in areas where it's appropriate. Keep in mind, the US is a VAST country. Public transportation just isn't practical in large parts of this country, and large SUV's/Trucks are still a necessity in many walks of life over here. Sure, the grocery getter Hummer will likely go the way of the Do-Do, but many of us need a 10mpg pickup truck for the work we do. I travel 425 miles to the jobsite, one way, in my V10 Dodge truck that get 11mpg. In order to do my job, I need it. A smart car won't pull a 5500 pound trailer into the Kentucky mountains on lease roads. Also, the days of muscle cars as 'treats' have been over for years (assuming you're talking about 60's-70's muscle cars as the term really only applies to cars from that era), except for the very wealthy. And for those folks, gas prices don't mean squat. As far as 'fast' cars go, there are plenty that get excellent fuel economy and most of the 'kids' over here are into 4cyl Subaru's and Mitsubishi's anyway.
  12. Just as an FYI, Rolex has a few different variations of the 16610 dial. For instance, the bottom half print on the Noob is correct for the version it's duplicating, as well as the upper half size and shape. I actually prefer the version that the noob duplicates over the version you have, but to each their own.
  13. I just received a PM stating that my account is going to be downgraded unless I make a payment. I just made a donation on the 29th of May when the Admin team asked for help, so I'm a bit confused here. I've been out of town a lot the last few months (and have very little time to frequent the board as a result), so maybe I missed something? Have membership fee's gone up? SR
  14. I picked up a gen crystal for $145 on E-bay (came with a gasket as well). It doesn't have the etched crown at 6, but since I have no intentions of having an AD examine the watch with a loupe, I didn't care. It's installed on my WM9 sub and worked great (it actually sits a bit lower in the case than the original crystal did).
  15. Nice shots! Does anyone have the rep of this model yet?
  16. Looks way too woky to me. The WM9 sub has this done perfectly, whereas this one looks like other MBW/K modern subs. Have you seen pictures of the bezel construction? When the SSD first came out, folks were saying that is also had a gen-like bezel, but that was proven to be false. It's not a bad looking sub, but from this one pic I don't see any improvements, appearance wise, over other modern MBW/K's.
  17. The whole thing looks genuine to me. The first links look exactly like a genuine (which most rep bracelets don't duplicate) and overall, it just looks 'right'.
  18. I'm just about finished with my Frankenjust, with the new crystal being the final touch. Can anyone tell me if there is anything I need to do, prep-wise, before installing the crystal? Do I need to use anything to 'seal' the crystal to the case - silicone, cement, etc? Assuming the one I removed is original and untouched, there was nothing originally there. The crystal just slipped over the rehaut/case and is then held in place and sealed by the bezel. Is this correct? Thanks!
