  1. Hi Folks, I'm creating this thread as a backup of a review I wrote for RWC, before it might disappear forever... As some of you might know, RWI's sister forum is closing its doors... There is actually a "large" choice in the Tag Heuer Monza replicas. I found at least 2 automatic (a 7750 based and a faux-chrono), and 2 different quartz models, without mentionning the dial variations. I went for the quartz for several reasons : - I like this model, but not enough to invest too much - the automatic model is better designed than the quartz version(s), but still not close enough to the gen - I am still reluctant in owning too many A7750 in my collection, although I made 4 exceptions recently - I have nothing against quartz, neither in reps nor in genuine watches. Better to say it now : we're talking about a fantasy watch, so this review has to be taken accordingly. I belong to those who think that a rep does not need to be 100% accurate to be enjoyed. My priority is "how it looks and feels". And this Monza is definitely a sexy watch in my eyes. A (very light) slice of History... 1930
  2. Will we get an MBK version ?
  3. ...so what ? Without thinking especially about TTK, what would a dealer make with member adresses ? 1. give them to Interpol ? 2. accuse members of forcing him/her to sell fake goods : then each member would get a fine ? And what about the dealer ? About 200 years jail... 3. Send us free rep ? Where can I post my address ? I'm not sure it's that scary. IMO. I don't want to go into judging the man, I personally anyway never had contact with TTK (maybe even if I had wished it might have been difficult). But RWG admins decision is definitely more important than any dealer's one. I trust them 100 times more to defend members interest than anyone. If I don't agree with the Admin team... I just move. But that won't happen this time.
  4. Thx. Which one ? Monza, Aquaracer or SLR ?
  5. Hi, not yet. But it's planned to, as far as I know. It's easier to start with the rubber first, replication goes faster.
  6. I had some doubts after the previous remarks, it seems we're not talking about the same movement or movement variation. The G10 on ETA's website can be found in the Ecoline series. None of these have the configuration you see on the Kalashnikov. Three possibilities : - either the Kalashnikov has an other movement (in this case the manufacturer announces wrong specs) - or there are variations of the G10 which you can't find online - or it was modified, as suggested before, but it seems quite unlikely for a watch of this range (pretty low budget)
  7. It's not really the date that is special, but the week day (subdial at 6) and the seconds hand @2 That's unusual for a quartz movement, and very different from the Quartz movements we meet in most chronos (Miyota OS20) There IS a quickset for the date (fortunately).
  8. Hi, going back to my B&M Riviera XXL...
  9. Yeah, gen lume is definitely what's missing in our reps... Being able to see it glow in the daylight is the best sign of excellent lume. It IS Superluminova C1. I'm pretty sure the G10 is an ETa movement, although there are other Swiss manufacturers like Ronda for instance. Whoever is the maker, the Chrono hand is close to sweeping and indeed this is a unique feature.
  10. Hi, there's obviously a problem on how to measure the dial. The bezel itself is 41 mm, but the watch is indeed 44mm + crown.
  11. It seems we have very similar tastes in watches I love your IWC and it's definitely on my wish list ! For the 7750, 3 things to know : - they come unserviced, so don't panic if the feel while winding or setting time is not always smooth - if you set the date via the speed-date function, first set the time at 6:30 (safest) and then you can continue with the date - the chrono pushers are always very hard to engage, but work. Don't forget to first stop the chrono before resetting it. Oh, and this rule applies for all automatic movements (The Zigmeister explained everything in detail) : don't wind it manually, or if so, just enough to launch the movement and always slowly.
  12. It seems that it ticks twice or 3 times a second, which is enough to let it look like it sweeps. It's true that's a quite unique feature. Probably more battery consuming. Sorry there was no manual I'm usually very careful about these things, but I really have no clue where it's gone.
  13. Nice pics ! Definitely a nice gen, and I think a bargain too... The lume is outstanding..; Well, maybe it's just because it's gen lume I don't know much about the G10 movement, but as you see it's not a common configuration for a Quartz. That makes it different. Also, if you look at the other models of the range, some have a citizen movement, therefore not Swiss. I know it's probably less important for Quartz movement than for mechanical ones, however it's still good to know you've an (almost) 100% Swiss jewel. The red on black stitching is also something I like a lot. Wear it well.
  14. Hi Kuarup, since I sold it, I have withdrawn the picture. I'm trying to keep only my current collection in this thread. Here's the shot for you
  15. Hi, Pete, would you mind giving us an idea of the dial cost ? I too have the first generation VCO which I had just AR coated, therefore the cross mod is interesting. Pity also that the datewindow shape is not correct on mine. Ideally we should transplant Silix's complete dial, then replace the GENEVE by GEN
  16. Hi, I don't think that opinions are conflicting. Some of these reps still run (happy owners), but we all know that they will have problems one day. You can fix this by either having the seconds@6 subdial frozen or apply graphite powder ( http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showto...amp;hl=graphite ). But it's been proven that the construction of the modified movement (transfer wheel) is not reliable : it should be jeweled. So, be careful if you're tempted by one of these gorgeous Portuguese IWC or Ingenieur Chrono. Or of course the Daytonas.
  17. Small update : I found a gen box on *bay... Actually it was much cheaper than expected, probably not more expensive than the (non existing yet ?) rep box. Unfortunately it's a P-6000 box, not a P-6340. But I must say that it is of high quality, and perfectly matches the style (pure design) of the watch. It also feels solid (plastic, not paper) Good job Porsche Designers I've just discovered an other interesting side of this hobby : get the box & papers... Sounds silly ?
  18. A small free BUMP for this excellent review. I went for the Version 3, as I prefer it from the aesthetics point of view. Paid 135 USD shipped, including the box etc... (which by the way are really well executed). Even got the Tag Heuer Paper bag Nothing to do with some prices we see around. The movement IS a Swiss quartz (Ronda). Actually, I'm 99,9 % sure that this is the exact same watch as sold by TT or PC for 238 USD + shipping. And if I take the risk to blame them here, it's really because I paid half the price (or let's say they sell it double price) than what it's worse. That's not acceptable. I've been hesitating on this model a lot due to the strap, and probably because I had other priorities. Actually I like it, the level of finishing is excellent externally, could be a bit better "internally" (the part that folds/unfolds. Well, I'm speaking of tiny things, which will probably not disturb many people. At least not for the price. The strap does take dust and is very soft. Softness is not a flaw in itself. But often a sign of poor quality, at least when I compare this strap to the other rubbers I own. Well, I must say I saw (could not touch) the gen in an A.D. : surely took dust too (or the A.D. showcase was dirty ) , although the rubber was obviously of better quality. All these little squares are worsening the phenomenon. I can't say it's a bad strap however : the TAG HEUER LOGO is sharp, unlike some very cheap rubber I tried (Omega for instance). The trick : apply some car plastic cleaner or silicone based solution on the outer side (to avoid contact with the skin). The seller was fast (shipped EMS and got it within the week) I'm now wondering if I should have it AR coated or not... It's almost 50% of the value of the thing but would definitely make the dial look much better... and closer to the gen. Especially the holes. A good compromise is to get the white dial. A pictorial to follow asap...
  19. I'm sure they will... Colour variation on an existing rep is easy.
  20. Maybe you should... I'm not sure he knows all the movements he's selling... That's the weak point from many dealers. I have bought an ST-19 based rep, whereas it was described as A7750. Well...
  21. @Mickey : not sure if you type the right ulrl. Works for me. Watchmark is an apprentice dealer here, not any previous dealer changing his name. He comes from iOffer & CQout and has built up a webstore. Still an apprentice, means he's not "approved" yet, but have a look in the dealers reviews, you'll see his ratings. Personally I have had nothing but good experiences with him.
  22. Hi, this is an Hadley Roma genuine Louisiana alligator strap. Yo ucan find it on ebay between 100 & 120 dollars. I've been owning it for a good year now, and it really developps a rich patina. It's one of my favorite : curved ends, flat (which fits well with a dressy watch) and no stitching. The review is too 1 year old, and I have to update 2 points : -Saswatch is not a supported dealer anymore - I sold this VC as it had troubles with its rotor : it could only be hand winded. I have just received a very similar (yet bigger) watch : a VC perpetual calendar, which I will review soon.
  23. Good idea... Don't know why, I feel that Shaekespeare fits better with the Vacheron... Am I snobbish ??
