  1. Well where did the time go. Although I took a two week break from the forum to find time to do work on my own watches, I did not seem to get much of it done... I did a number of interesting servicings in the past two weeks, including a Lanco 48 Chrono overhaul, and I just finished a circa 1893 Waltham pocket watch restoration. It's nice to take something that is totally dead, and bring it back to life, and you can hear it "tic-toc" of the movement accross the room...a great soothing sound. I hope I did not miss anything too exciting while I was gone. RG
  2. I am a bit late for my planned break from the forum. So after this message, I will be signing off, and closing my PM box until the end of the month. Not going anywhere, still working at the bench on my own stuff, but just need a break from it all for a while. I have a few projects and hopefully insightful posts that I want to get done and posted when I come back. The email will of course be always open, so anyone who needs to contact my associate (and me) can do so on email. See you later. RG
  3. If your referring to the chrono large seconds hand, it can stutter more on some models than others... It's driven by a tilting pinion gear, and that gear, the second gear, and the chrono seconds gear, all have slight tolearnces, sometimes these are all on the upper limits, and you get a slight stutter...sometimes the engagement of the tilting pinion into the chrono seconds gear is not adjusted correctly, and this is the cause. Sometimes it can be corrected, other times, it can't. Does not affect timekeeping, it's just a visual thing. RG
  4. See my website for all the pricing, it's in my signature. RG
  5. If the base movement in the watch is a Asian 7750, a Swiss 7750 will fit... Just did a post up on installing Swiss 7750's in various watches. RG
  6. Language issues aside, this is what my associate received on March 7 The response included a complete shipping doc, with our address, and this message: I think the message is clear, even if english is not your first language. We try and make it as easy and painless for everyone. I am not sure how much more we can do. RG
  7. You hit the nail on the head. Although it's a hobby, I conduct my self in a professional manner, and those that use my services, are appreciative of this type of approach. Appointements means that the work is scheduled, when it's scheduled it gets done on time, when it gets done on time, the owners get their watches back with minimal waiting, and are happy. Happy owners makes me happy in turn... RG
  8. Apology accepted, my name should not have formed any part of the original post. We both know what was said on email, and so does my associate, I am not about to post personal emails here on the forum. I just re-read them, and I stand by my comments, why else would I refuse to do work for you? I offered you ETA 7753 datewheels - twice - the demand was great, and both times I gave you first right of refusal, you refused, so I went to the next person. Since many members here also own genuine watches, it's strange that no one ever asked for anything but C3 on their 188/196. Until your comments just now, no one has ever said it was not C3. If you wanted another colour, all you had to do was ask. My job is not to research each and every lume colour on each and every model of watch that is sent to me, unless you ask for a special colour, it gets lumed in the base colour it has when it gets here. Making an error would presume I knew the difference or had direction going in, I didn't have either, yet it's my fault. Mr Gladeraider send a handful of MBW's with various colours of lume, he specified they all be lumed C1 white, so that is what he got - C1. You didn't ask, I did what everyone else accepted, and continues to accept. I work with many people, some for many years, if I was that difficult to deal with, or a [censored], it would not take long for the word to get around...they keep coming back for one reason, the quality and service. RG
  9. There are bad customers, and then there are threats, insults, and just nasty people. There is a difference... How in the world would you know if, and how much money, I make? Ever priced the tooling it takes to service watches? You misunderstood, I dont' have 150 "bad" customers, my blocked list is around 150 members that for my own reasons, I choose to not want to listen to, or doing any business with. The blocked list on the forums, and bad customers, are not the same. I would say I have had just over a dozen customers that I would not do business with again, which is fine by me. It's all part of offering services to the public at large. I know what I offer, and make no apoligies for how I conduct myself, treat me right, and you get 110% back... Glad you like the technical posts, I have more to come during my holiday from the bench...stay tuned. @2manywatches As a business man, you sure have a way to threaten, insult, and be extremely rude to people, especially my associate who as everyone knows does all my emails...you know very well what you said, and that is why your watch went back - no other reason at all... You did it, not me...I offered you twice ETA datewheels, and you screwed me around. And once the threats started, I was glad I cut my losses and had nothing further to do with you. As for the lume job, the dial had C3 colour based lume as supplied, all the 188/196's I have done were in C3, you did not specify or request any "special" colour, so I did it in what it was originally - C3. I fail to see how that qualifies as a "failure" on my part. I wait with baited breath for the correct lume job pictures, please post them in close up detail and living colour. Use this picture of a recent lume job I did for your guide...please no "glowing" pictures, we want to see the daylight detail and special colour. And yes indeed I did contact you on PM after I saw your dilema, as it's my nature to help members here. I found out today in your post above who you were, not before. No matter who it was, any watch that has been in the hands of BRJ69, I refuse to work on, simply my choice, that's all...been there done that...we all know the outcome... As I said in my original PM to you, there are many members looking for their datewheels from finepics, strange how you did not identify yourself to me initially...we both know that if I had an inkling of who you were, I would not have offered my services to you...you burnt that bridge in December. RG
  10. Seems this did not work in this instance. Thanks for the feedback. Very disapointing to hear this, since I have about 150 names on my blocked list, and to find out all they need to do is sign up again under a new name, well that is not good news. I guess I have to re-think who I respond to from now on, probably going to end up hurting those that are new, or have few posts since I am going to be very cautious from here on in... I still think this particular situation is unaceptable, given the circumstances. RG
  11. Don't we have rules and regulations here about members signing up under different names and tricking people into thinking they are someone they are not???? UNREAL for someone to sign up under a different board name since they knew that I had banned them and blocked them from PM’ing and emailing me… Since when do you decide who I sell parts to? Oh right, you like to try and intimidate and threaten people when you don’t’ get your way. Sorry, that may work in your personal life, but it does not work on me… I decide what I do and who I deal with, not you. I sent it back with the Finepics datewheel, it’s not my fault it was bad. You know very well why your watch was sent back to you with the finepics datewheel installed, I had enough of you and your threats and demands, and cut my losses. Bad lume job? Not likely… Not unreal, smart business if you ask me. I do indeed have plenty of 7753 datewheels in my hands, and for you to pose as someone else, and try and trick me into selling you one, for that alone, I think the admin here should ban you from the site. That is dishonest, but given how and what you said to me on emails, how you treated my lady associate and called her everything under the sun including a liar, and then threatened us both, I am not at all surprised that you would stoop to changing you board name. To the Mods and Admin, I think you need to review my comments, and take action as you see fit. I have banned and marked many members as ignored for valid reasons, when someone can sign up under a different name, and circumvent my banning of them in the first place, this place looses it's integrity. So much for using the tools here to screen those that are trouble makers… And didn’t we just say that it wasn’t a good idea to use personal names on the forum ****, please edit your posts are needed and remove mine. Thank you. That is but the tip of the iceberg of your personality, DEMAND indeed... RG
  12. I have yet to find a genuine Omega bezel or insert that fit a rep...the genuine ones tend to be larger, as well as attached a different way. RG
  13. A cut and past article from TZ written by Walt Odets: All I would add is that indeed you do get what you pay for when it comes to watch servicing. Anyone who claims to have serviced a automatic watch for less than $100...is doing a swish and dip, or nothing at all... I do this as a hobby, which is why my prices are what they are. If this was my day job, they would be twice the amount. RG
  14. DONT send it back, that is a huge mistake. Now that I have seen the model (I can never keep the numbers straight) I think the problem is the set lever screw is loose or damaged, your looking at a minor minor repair, dont' risk waiting for months for your watch to get back, only to find it's got other problems... If you have no one locally that can fix it, try some of the members on the forum. Dont' send it back, bad idea... RG
  15. You were given the email address and asked for an appointement. In my response on the forum I said: I work with people all over the world, who's understanding of english may not be so great, and our messages are written very clearly to account for any language differences. It's very simple and easy, you ask for an apointement, we give you one with a shipping date, then you ship to us... Once a spot is reserved, the message is simple, "Please ship to us a week or two before your appointement so it will get here on time." Anyone who has gotten our shipping instructions will confirm that it's all spelled out and explained in detail, probably a bit anal, but it gets the job done. The arrangement for an appointement is not this: When you emailed you were given a shipping date, you did not ship your watch. There is nothing further to say, dozens of people understand this, they ship on time, get the work done and the watch returned back to them. Clearly you dont' get it and never will... Yes there should be a section for those who waste other people's time...I have a name to put on that list... RG
  16. Great work as usual vaccum. Wonderful pictures as well, keep them coming. RG
  17. If all you touched was the fine regulator screw, that should have no effect on the problem you describe. Something else must have happended while you had the case opened, if the watch was running fine, and after adjustment is not working, there is something wrong somewhere. What it may be, I could not tell... RG
  18. Many told me "dont' do it..." but sometimes I am too nice... How hard is it to send a email?? I have learned the hard way, if I put you on my blocked and ignored list, I had a good reason at that time. Gut feeling is always right, I have proved this to myself many times. RG
  19. You should do a test to find out what the problem is... Wind the watch by hand (see my signature below for guidance), after you wind it fully about 30 turns on the crown, mark on a piece of paper the day and time, and leave the watch sitting and dont' move it. Keep checking every morning and night if the watch is still running, when it stops working, note the day and time and figure out how long it has run. Then wind the watch just enough to get it running, set the time, and wear it. When you put it down at the end of the day, see if it still works in the morning. If it stops after 5-6 hours, you either dont' move enough during the day to wind it up, or there is a problem with the autowinder. If you sit still at a computer all day typing, it's not going to wind the watch...so it may not have any problem with it after all. RG
  20. It sounds like a crown problem, not a movement one. Have you tried to pull harder to see if you can get it to switch from winding to time setting? I have never seen a keyless works go bad, unless the owner removed the stem and messed it up while reinstalling it...if it winds, that tells me that the parts are still in place, and working inside the watch. RG
  21. Price depends on the amount of work needed, if you have a old Asian 7750, with the 12-9-6 subdials, it's a easy swap, and takes about an hour ($50), if you have a new Asian 7750 12-9-6 then it's about a 2 hour job, if you have a Asian 7753 3-6-9 subdials, then it's a full service for both movements to move all the parts around, full service on A7750 is $200... I don't source the ETA 7750, Ebay has many, and Kruzer00 posted a link to a seller who has the older model, which is very well priced. I can't remember if I did a TAG link chronos...after a while, they all look the same... RG
  22. I think most members remember this post Panerailord asking for my services I explained why I did not want to work with him, and after a few back and forths, changed my mind and decided to give it another go (against the suggestions of more than one member that it was a bad idea...). I have a few simple requests if you book work on my calendar: live up to your end of the deal, or simply let me know on a email that there is a problem...so guess what happened? My associate (who does all the bookings for me) went ahead and penciled Panerailord into the schedule...3 weeks go by past the due date of the watch arriving and nothing has shown up, so my associate emails and asks if he has shipped the watch yet... The response. I paraphrase: "No I have not shipped, can I ship next month?" Hmmmm, let me think this over...NO! don't ship next month or ever. You had your last chance, and blew it - again. It takes but 1 minute to let us know that there is a problem/delay/changed your mind/no money, whatever it is, if you can't ship as agreed, all we ask is, "Please let us KNOW about it..." How hard it that to do??? Unless your in a Coma, quite easy I think. Simple fact is that when people don't live up to their end of our deal, it's rude and uncalled for. A simple email is all that is asked, nothing else... We have had it with timewasters, if you can't take the time to let us know and cancel your appointement, then take your business elsewhere. I have limited time to work on watches, for some jobs, I only book that one job in for the whole week, so if you dont' ship, you deny someone else the oppurtunity to get in and have work done. Not to mention the waste of my time. I have been very tolearant of timewasters in the past, but no more, my associate has also stated that she has had enough, and since she does all the emails and bookings, and is much less tolerant that I am, consider your self on the spam list. I am expected to live up to my end of the deal; turn times, quality of work, guarantee, etc, imagine if I took the same half ass approach with customers, and did crap jobs, people were waiting for months for watches etc, members would scream loudly on the forum that I was a scammer, yet some people dont' think twice about reserving a spot (that is what is done, it's not a random thing, we mark you on a calendar) and then not living up to their end of the deal. From my perspective I see no difference between the two activities, both are unaceptable. RG
  23. There are some movements I refuse to service, because I dont' think they are reliable, even once clean and oiled. I continue to service the Asian 7750, because it keeps working good after service... The Asian 7750, both the old and the new ones, suffer from the same problem, poor oiling and adjustments from the factory. Once cleaned and adjusted and oiled, they work great. I have only had one Asian 7750 returned after servicing, and I fixed it and sent it back. The date issue can be fixed on both the Asian and ETA if you damage it by changing the date at the wrong time. So yes, a Asian 7750 is just as good as a Swiss 7750 after service, if it was not, then they would not keep running. Quality of the parts, ETA is 10, Asian is 8. Does the Asian work as well as the ETA - YES. RG
