  1. Nickel is Silver coloured, as in the second post, Gold is...Gold, as in the first post... Did your stuff arrive? RG
  2. There is no noticeable difference in quality between a Gold or Nickel ETA, at least I have never noted any differences. There is a difference as to where they are from, Gold ETA's are produced by ETA in Switzerland, Nickel ETA's are out of the ETA factories in the Far East. RG
  3. Like anything mechanical, with proper care, correct service (clean and lubricated) your Asian 7750 will last a lifetime... My oldest A7750 is 28 months old, keeps great time, all the chrono functions work as they should, and starts running within a few seconds after I put it on. It's not so much the movement itself, as the care and upkeep that goes into it. RG
  4. It's 0.25mm hand size, the problem is the hand tube is still stuck on the post in the center seconds. You can see the tube if you look at it closely, you need to remove the broken tube from the post, and then you can install the hand no problem. RG
  5. That is a personal decision only you can make... The experience of various members here who have taken thier watches to local repair shops, has not been very impressive. It's your call as to where to go. RG
  6. 2893-2 hand stack from dial up is: GMT hand, 1,80mm Hour hand 1,50mm Minute hand 0,90mm Seconds hand 0,25mm RG
  7. My sources for 2893-2's have them listed at over $300 each, but these are brand new factory sealed units. I have (if memory serves me well) replaced a 2824-2 with a 2893-2 in a PAM GMT. I can't remember the GMT hand sizes but I suspect it was replaced, I think the 2836 basterdized models have much larger hand sizes than the ETA has. The 2836-2 replacement with a 2892 series does not work, since the thickness variation places the stem hole out of alignment with the case. RG
  8. I would not ship it back, not a good idea at the best of times, for many reasons as reported by many members here... Not a problem not being able to hand wind it, some asian genuine brands are not capable of being wound with the crown. As long as you can set the time and date when you put the watch on, it's not an issue... RG
  9. The good news is that genuine Breitling crowns are available, I have not replaced one, but I assume you would need the tube as well...just as you do on the Omega's. Not sure of the compatability of the genuine crown/tube on the rep, but it should be possible to replace it. RG
  10. I still am amazed at the speed of AirMail to EU destinations...less than 10 days?? Glad it made it home safe and sound, and I hope it doesn't give you any further problems. I am pleased to hear that you like the lume results. Not often I get to use my orange lume. RG
  11. Sounds like the crown is defective. Common problem on many watches, including my Omega SMP chrono, had to replace the crown with a genuine one. I doubt there is anything defective with the movement. RG
  12. Not in this case. I consider it an Asian 7750. With all the extra friction from the 5 gears, and the fact they are not oiled as delivered, and that oiling them would simply stop the movement from running all together (because oil would increase the friction of each gear) there is nothing to do to the extra gears, except make sure they are clean... RG
  13. I will be taking a break from the forum, as well as from the workbench, from April 15th to the 29th. While I am away, I want to get caught up with some of the work I want to do on my own watches, and also thin the herd down a bit, I have a number of watches and parts that I don
  14. Have fun and safe travels. RG
  15. Very good comments all around. I too have been feeling the change and the need for a break from the forum. I decided a few weeks ago to close shop for two weeks in April. Maybe I'll get some of my own stuff taken care of I am also going to take a break from the forum during that time and do up some of the stuff I always like to do, various posts about movements and technical stuff. Only those who have been here for longer than a year or so (I am including the old RWG1) can appreciate the changes and amazing reps we now have access to. The movement "misrepresentation" issue is not a new one, "Lemania 1874", "Valjoux 7750 copy", "Unitas 6497", etc are all wrong and don't accuratly describe the actual movements (Lemania is a Seagull copy of a Venus 175, Valjoux is ETA, and Unitas went out of business in 1960 something, and is also ETA). I personally have not had any complaints or problems with the dealers I have bought from, and one dealer went well above and beyond what is expected and sourced stuff for me that was unavailable anywhere else, shipped it to me at his cost, and refused to even accept more than a "Thank you" from me... How can I find fault in someone that is willing to go that extra mile at his time and expense. I hope we can get excited again about our watches, and our hobby, and share our excitment when we get something new in the collection... I know I still get excited when I open a watch for service, eventhough I may have just spent the last 6 hours servicing the exact same watch and movement, each time I open the case, my pulse rises...as long at that thrill is there, I'll keep doing what I love to do... As for the posts that I have no interest in, or the members that get under my skin, I skip the posts that are BS, and my Ignored User list has dozens of names on it. By doing those two things, I keep to the stuff I like when I am here, and ignore those that I have no interest in hearing. Just like in life, I choose what I look at, and who I listen to... RG
  16. You can do a couple of things. I have to believe you have reviewed the seconds at 6 movement reviews and know the problems with them as delivered. The fix could be having the movement serviced (as tourbi says, the cost is not cheap), and this may or MAY NOT fix the problem...the permanent fix may be to remove the running seconds at 6 gears, thereby unloading the movement and allowing it to run. In my subforum (see signature) there are detailed posts on this. Either way, removing the extra gears, or servicing it, it can be fixed. RG
  17. I did not identify that movement in that review as a SW Sellita, because it's not one and it's not a copy of one... The movement in that review looks identical to a ETA 2824-2, without any markings. The SW200 Sellita 2824-2 copy, is totally different on many area's, is marked "SW200" under the balance etc... RG
  18. If you send it to me, put in your letter as always what I am to do and look for, and I will let you know what I find. RG
  19. I am good, but not that good:) I will start on them Saturday afternoon, but it will late the following week before they are done, after spending most of the weekend and evenings at the bench...it's a time consuming process which takes a lot of concentration. I can only do one lume at a time, and then I have to take a break, the eyes, depth perception, and steadyness, all suffer after each dial. Installing the crowns is my break from the luming. RG
  20. That is going to be Saturday afternoon's task, after I finish servicing an El Primero, they should be good and steady by then... Thanks for the kind words. RG
  21. Beautiful shot, breathtaking. RG
  22. Very good post, but as Timm said, it won't get the feeback and follow on commentary that it should. I too need a break, and will be signing off for two weeks in April...I just need to step back and get away from it all for a while. Hopefully this will be a turning point on the forum, and we will move towards a more positive direction, not a downward slide as has happened in the past. RG
  23. Couldn't even guess...if it had a PR indicator it would be easy to come up with a figure... I think it takes 600-800 or something turns of the rotor to wind the watch fully from a stop, so I would think a normal level of activity durning the day, should result in a fully wound watch at the end of the day... A simple test, let the watch run down, put it on, set the time and wear it for half a day, note the time when you take it off, and see how long it runs before it stops, that should be fairly accurate guage to go by. RG
  24. That is true, and in the same tone, I would never ever misrepresent anything to the members here, I report what I see, and comment on what I think. It may not please everyone, but I stay neutral and have no loyalty except to myself, and the members here who need to know what they are buying. If the "Clone 2824" that I serviced was a POS, I would have said so, the fact it's a genuine Swiss SW200 movement is great, but it should be identified as such, after all, that's what it is - a SW200...
