  1. Since I offer this service, no matter what I say will sound biased and a sales pitch...but here is my viewpoint. Although the condition of the movements in the reps varies a lot (due to the fact they are surplus movements), my personal view is that a few years of running is not going to do them any harm. These movements typically have "some" oil in them in varying quantities, and given that spare parts are available, not very expensive (say compared to a Rolex or other high end model) then waiting a few years is not a big issue. Even if something is worn out, in my shop I have many spare parts for run of the mill ETA models... Some choose to have them serviced right away, some wait till the performance drops (if it starts to run Faster, it's in need of service), some don't service them at all, preferring to hold out for a newer and better model. It's to each their own, I would not go past the 5 year mark, as at that point, the oils are dried up for certain. RG
  2. There are two camps, Camp 1. never service a movement, waste of money, fix it when it breaks. Camp 2. service it regularly, to maintain it, and prevent it from wearing out. You
  3. Yes indeed Neil you do always pick the good ones...these older original versions were the best as far as I am concerned, 2+ years in the running and no problems. RG
  4. The Asian 7750 powered PAM 188 I was referring to, that has been working perfect for over 2 years, was bought from none other than TTK... RG
  5. My 26 month OLD 21.6K Asian 7750 in my 188 is working fine, chrono et al...and I use the crap out of it...it was serviced 2 years ago. Not ONE (1) Asian 7750 has been returned for warranty that I serviced in the past 12 months - not one. Actually I can only remember 1 Asian 7750 being sent back for warranty work - ever. Dont' even ask about the running seconds at 6 model, we all know the issues with this arrangement. But when it comes to a standard Asian 7750, from my perspective, I dont' see a problem, certainly no more so that with any of the other movements around...this is of course after I have serviced them. The fact that I have no returns following service, and these were sent in because they stopped working, well you can do the math... RG
  6. I buy and use C3 from RC all the time, it looks like the first pics, not the second one. A nice yellow slightly tinted green colour. RG
  7. As long as you removed the stem using a correct sized screwedriver that fit the slot where the release pin is located, you should have no problems getting it re-installed. I go against the grain when it comes to removal, and always take the stem out in the winding position. Inserting the stem on a 2892 does not require pressing the release lever as Bosk pointed out already. Simply insert the stem into the movement, turning it ccw and gently inserting it and you should hear it click and lock into place, the movement running or not has no bearing on the installation. If you pressed the release pin with anything smaller than the slot, and the stem does not lock in place, you probably knocked the keyless works out of place and will have to get a watchmaker to disassemble and fix it for you. RG
  8. It's good to know your getting used to my replies, welcome back. I guess you never found the time to respond to the information I provided to you in this post when you were looking for answers. Your question on a crystal press answered. Your welcome. RG
  9. The Rotor's on these rollie's are all like this, very prone to rubbing against the movement...common defect, but the rotor is very efficient while winding, at the expense of having it rub... Hope it works out for you. RG
  10. Agree...there is always a fine line between asking how to do a particular job, and realizing that if you have no idea how to do the job in the first place, maybe, just maybe, your could be in over your head... Proper basic tools, loupe, tweezers, hand removal and installation, dust blower, screwdrivers, etc, are essential and need for even the most mundane tasks, unless your FlipLockBuckle, then just grab the hockey puck from the kids, and your a watchmaker! RG
  11. First off, ditch the bic pen, and buy a Bergeron hand installer tool...less than $20. Get the one with the RED and GREY tips, it works great. The dial is most likely held down by screws on the side of the movement, find them, loosen them and the dial should come off. Proper tooling is essential when doing this, especially hand install and removal. RG
  12. It's not a button, it's a screw next to the stem center line, just in from the edge of the movement. Same procedure with any screw down set lever to get it to release, like the 6497 has... RG
  13. Took another picture with the crystal the CORRECT Distance from the DIAL face. This should show the expected magnification. RG Thanks, I can't hide anything from you... RG
  14. I think they look great, the lack of any distorsion is amazing... RG
  15. The extra jewels in the 25 jewel verison are: 1. Tilting pinion mainplate jewel (1) 2. Third wheel mainplate jewel (1) 3. Mainspring ratchet wheel driving wheel, both jewels Upper and Lower (2) 4. Reversing wheel, both jewels, Upper and Lower (2) 5. Center seconds chrono wheel, bridge jewel (1) 6. 30 Minute counter, bridge jewel (1) I don't think these missing jewels affect the overall functionality of the movement or make it any more unreliable that the 25 Jewel version. And NO, I have no affiliation to the Ebay seller...just pointing out the differences between the two variants. RG
  16. Can't help with the local supplier... But the majority of Asian automatic movements use standard Miyota stems, not all do, but I would say fully 90% are identical to the Miyota one. Part number would be 401/8215 Miyota (double check the part #, I may have it mixed up). If your thinking of replacement, the Miyota 8215, 95% of the time is a direct fit, hands, stem location, etc... I have lots of stems for Asian PM me your addy, and I can throw some in an envelope for you. RG If you can take a picture, I can match it up... RG
  17. As far as I know, yes, they are identical, dial feet and date window. RG
  18. There you go, your words of wisdom about yourself are immortilized for everyone to see. I am sure the members here are looking forward to helping you anyway they can, and also your future contributions to our wonderful forum. Again, welcome abord!! RG
  19. Well, the last time I looked at our general rules of conduct, this type of response was not condoned or accepted here at RWG, or probably on any forum. We have rules we all have to follow, and being semi-civilized is one of them. When anyone here (new or a veteran) provides a response like this one, I think someone on the admin staff needs to addres it. I have added the bold text. You can see the original in the post link below. If you want to see the post that lead to this reponse, it's here. http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=22317&hl= A bit over the top, or perfectly acceptable for RWG and it's members. RG
  20. Stupid comments and antics aside, he's tried to get members to modify their watches by using hockey pucks and a vise, then a hammer and epoxy and bathroom silicone, etc... Antics aside, were here to help members - not get them to destroy their watches. That is what I have issue with, not everyone reads a post the same way, I would feel bad if someone posted that they tried one of his "methods" and damaged their watch. That is the issue. Maybe the mods can move all his posts to the "Humor" section instead... RG
  21. Your initial question has nothing to do with my "assistance" or lack thereof. I answered your initial question, and for some reason, beyond my understanding, you wacked out in your response to me, insulted me, accused me of being a liar and other bad stuff I am sure, but which I have yet to figure out from your Shakespearian big fancy words response. Not sure who your trying to impress with your litterature and fancy words, but it ain't me... That is why you will not get any assistance from me, end of discussion. Stop trying to play Mr "I don't know why Ziggy won't help me, all I did was ask a question, sniff, sniff" pity party, it's BS and everyone knows it. Good luck from here on in... RG
  22. Sorry I missed that part, I had such a hard time figuring out what the big words meant, I skipped this sentence altogether. Your most welcome for my answer, since it appears in your research, you missed all of these posts. I wanted you to be aware of them. And thank you for the big words, and the insults, and the accusations, most appreciated, now we both know where we stand. And I belive Tourbillon has lots of movements for sale and can certainly help you out. RG
  23. Actually I am never testy. Why do you ask? because I provided some information that indicates that Asian movements can indeed be good and you dont' like my answer. WTF is that supposed to mean? Animosity? from what?? Your "saddened" that I responded in such a way? and my "blithe" (whatever the hell that means, remember some of us are not native english speakers or readers) response makes you wonder about a "personal conflict of interest". Are you for real. Yes, the secret is out, I ZIGGY, actually have a Factory where I produce Asian movements for the world...now everyone knows, thanks for taking that load off my shoulders... And please don't try and humour me with your "respectfully" crap. Rest assured that you have NO worries about getting any help from me... I think you have been here before, been banned, and have come back, since your response is all too familiar with someone who was recently banned...lets see what the Mods have to say about the IP address similarities. Your wacked out mister and a troll, speak to yourself. RG
  24. Well I am confused for many reasons... first you joined yesterday, and a day later your reporting that you have "heard so many horror stories about the asian reworked ETA movement". Can you point me to these horror stories, it's the first I have heard of this problem. Second, you say "if we just settled for a real ETA movement the quality and useful life of the watches would be significantly improved", if in a day of browsing here, you discovered the horrors of the Asian ETA's, how did you miss these posts during your research?
