  1. Wonderful post, I have not had the pleasure of seeing the inside of this particular movement. Looks quite complex and probably hard to figure out without sitting down and playing with it. Great post, again...thanks for this. RG
  2. Learning how to apply lume and have it look nice is a learned artistic skill. Your first attempts are going to end up in most likely a mess, especially if your not trained to work and handle parts under a loupe. Just using a loup is also an aquired skill. If you do decide to give it a go, get an old dial, actually a bunch of dials, before you attempt it on a good watch. And practice, practice and continue to practice... You shouldn't remove the existing lume from the dial, not only do you risk damaging the dial there is no reason for it to come off. Hands are cleaned of lume by pressing the old lume out of the cutout, and then scraping the remaining lume off the back of the hands with an xacto knife. Honestly, if you only need a few dials and hands done, your time and money are best spent paying someone else to do the work. RG
  3. Franken watches I consider a Franken watch to be any watch that is assembled with parts from various sources. This can include genuine and/or aftermarket parts. The challenge with any Franken project, is that there are so many variables. If you see a Franken project or special watch that came from my shop, please understand that what you see is probably the result of the owner putting in lots of time sourcing parts, and doing research. Added to this is my time test fitting parts, informing the owner of what I can and can
  4. This part is unique to Asian modified A7750's and impossible to get from ETA. If anyone would have one it would probably be me, but since I don't get to scrap out or exchange many A7750's with the modified layout, I don't have one in my spares bins. RG
  5. My only concern is that your watchsmith isn't providing you with these answers. If the members here know how to fix the watch, and they aren't watchsmiths...what does this say about the qualifications of the person doing the work. Bertieng has provided the answer, nothing more I can add. RG
  6. As someone who's day job involves enforcing a section of federal law, pray you don't ever cross my path. I have no time for anyone with your smug attitude where you think your above the law. If you can afford a 996, grow up and take it to the track where you can only risk killing yourself.
  7. Well that is very bizzare, but actually good to hear. Simply because it's a real bear to try and lume the subdial hands on this model. From now on I won't be luming the subdial hands. Wonder what the logic was in luming the chrono seconds hands, but not the subdial markers? It really doesn't make much sense. RG
  8. Everyone I have lumed, I have done the subdial hands as well as the main ones. The subdial hands are hollow as are the larger ones, and are filled with lume. Normally hands are only hollow for one reason, to fill them with lume. I have lumed many 3717's over the past couple of years, and this is the first time I have heard that the gen subdial hands are not lumed, I don't believe this is correct. RG
  9. Great write up and comparison, pics and measurements tell the complete picture. Thanks for writing this up. RG
  10. Great history, I never knew the reasons for the name, thanks for this. The watch looks wonderful on that strap, great combo, wear it well. RG
  11. There's no turning back now...your bitten by the PAM bug. Great job, wear it well. RG
  12. Well some ups and downs. But I guess that comes with trying to re-create watches with parts that were long ago produced. One day I would like to find the mother load, an old watchmaker's collection of Rollie parts, before Rolex pulled the plug on the independent repair shops. Hopefully the movement can be modified... RG
  13. Another excellent post, thanks so much for taking the time to write this up. Great job. RG
  14. The obvious question is, what is the seller's response. Could be as simple as you were given someone's else's tracking number...it can happen... RG
  15. Yeach, what a mess...maybe the movement is ok. RG
  16. Yes taking the first step is quite appropriate in this case. This session lasts 6 weeks, with lessons every monday night. In Jan they have more sessions on various dances, given the long depressing dark and cold winters, I think this is a great way to uplift your spirit and feel better. Updates to come as I progress... RG
  17. Looks great. The only thing that looks out of place is the missing gear. If it was my watch I think I would leave the gear in place but simply disable the alarm. It looks odd with the hole in the plate and no gear installed. Maybe the genuine was the same way? RG
  18. A person called David Wong (hence "DW") was selling Daytona models a few years ago. The cases were perfect with assymetrical pushers etc... They contained what I called the "Mystery Movement". Mystery because it looks like a Venus 23, but is something else, I have yet to figure out the exact caliber of movement. RG
  19. It certainly wan't clear to me in the first post that the person quoted was different than the two links posted. The links point to the same item and seller. An ETA 2836-s is not a GMT movement, never was, never will be, except for those in some reps that have been modified. They are terrible movements and full of problems. Since both links pointed to the same seller, and both quoted basically the same answer, that the 2836-2 was a GMT movement, you can appreciate that after both ajoe and I provided the answer to your questions, we wonder why you are taking the word of the seller vs what we already stated. Clicking on your link brought me to the exact same 2836-2 both times. Keep in mind that the modified GMT 2836-2 is a nightmare of a movement, and the quality and modifications run from horrible to terrible, have a read of my review of it (if you haven't already). Personally I won't touch or go near this movement, not even to remove hands for lume, it's junk. No hard feelings, but appreciate that your first post stating "a" ebay seller, didn't stand out to me (or probably joe) meaning someone different. "nuff said... RG
  20. Well I made it through the lesson, that was the fastest hour of my life. It took me a while to feel comfortable, but looking aroung no one (including my dance partner) was doing any better than I was, we were all struggling to learn the steps and build on the routine. Amazingly, I really ENJOYED myself and it was great fun. I actually realize that given the right circumstances and instruction, I can actually move my feet the way they should to the music. Amazing. We just touched on the basics of the Cha Cha, but went so far as to doing the twirlly thing with your partner, it was great. Looking forward to practicing and learning more. RG
  21. This is the same question you asked in the opening of this post. Nothing has changed since you quoted the seller 3 days ago and again today, we have already provided you with the answers to your question but you don't believe us. Obviously you don't accept that ajoesmith and I know what we are talking about, so I think you should go with what the seller says, he should know what he's selling...right?
  22. Very well done and documented. Bring it on...can't wait for the rest. RG
  23. Well the countdown is on, I have cleaned up my dancing shoes, and put on extra deodorant and brushed my teeth, less than an hour to go... I am doing this for all the men out there like me, now where is my Frank Zappa album...hmmm...sheik your bootie... RG
  24. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated. Pics speak a thousands words, I never even picked up on the Incablock on the dial side, too busy looking and trying to sort out the rest. Not sure where to go next, certainly a V23/72 balance and arm are the only real solution at this point to get it working. RG
