    Mark XVI or 3717

    They are a big difference in size as you know. I'm also looking at the XVI, XVII and 3717. In fact I have two XVI and can C&R one with black strap to you if you want it. Here's my SS XVI on 6.5" wrist As for reliable and such, I'm not sure. Other member will pro'ly chime in with more info there. I think PureTime and Perfect has them but you'll want to send email. Cheers!
  2. You can't just say, "I'm very happy with my fraken," and not post any details. Come on man. Give it up. What parts are gen and post some pics. We must have more info
  3. Hey! Thanks Cougar. Its been a long wait and hunt. Now let's see how much wrist time it gets compared with my slowly growing Pilot collection. Compared to the gen the DW bevel is slightly different but I'm just evaluating it to decide if the gen version is what I want to buy. The Geneve is also missing the tilda above the E and the cross and markers are not perfect but overall it's a nice watch. It's rich looking without being blingy IMO.
  4. I just made a thread on a VCO I just got from PT if you want to know a bit more about them. I will be ordering my next watch from PT shortly.
  5. Finally! Much to my surprise the letter carrier delivered my VCO this morning. Angus (PureTime) and I thought it got lost in the mail. I placed the order on July 19th and today is Sept 4th. China to California in 6 and a 1/2 weeks! Angus was an excellent TD and was working on resending me a new order with QC pics! Wow! I'm very happy to finally get my hands on a VCO and it will definitely help me determine if I want the gen. So far I really like it a lot. Its 42mm size fits my 6.5" wrist perfectly. Here are a few quick pics but they do not do this watch justice. The watch is pristine and I used my iPhone 4s but it gives you a good idea of how it looks. I'm really surprised that this watch is not a lot more popular on the forums. I really love the DW placement. It's so much easier to read than at the 3 o'clock position. Anyway, it's a beauty. Enjoy;
  6. That's a he'll of a rep if true. I would want one for sure. Got link? Who's Josh? Trusty?
  7. That rose pic looks over the top. Is it a rep? Seems like there should be a 0 in front of the 5. Where the heck is Bursa anyway? Must be coming by Sherpa or something for $100
  8. What do you guys think this item will fetch? And can it be used to improve a rep? Look at this on eBay: VACHERON CONSTANTIN OVERSEAS MOVEMENT AND DIAL http://bit.ly/PQLtTf
  9. I had that happen to me. Customs had it and then all of a sudden it arrived at my doorstep in about a week. It was an AP.
  10. Hi Nik, I'm sure you will get some good info. You may want to upload the pictures to http://photobucket.com and then copy the IMG Code into the post here for all to see the pictures. That will probably work best. The IMG code looks like this [.IMG]http://i73.photobuck...ey/Welcome1.jpg without that dot --> [.IMG]
  11. LOL @Maxman -timely appropriate levity. I think that unless you have spent of your hard earned after tax discretionary income on a gen, you really can't relate to what gen owners think. And not the ol' BS, "I could buy that GEN if I wanted to" crap. Sure you love watches and horology and all that. Fine. I do too. But if we go on assumptions of $4000 per month in take home pay, and you want to buy a $9000 Rolex because you feel you really deserve it and have sacrificed and saved to get it; it will mean a lot to you. If on the other hand you take home $20,000 a month, and have the discretionary income, that $9000 Rollie won't seem like much of a stretch. It's like buying a set of wheels for your Porsche or a couple of nice suits and shoes. Just part of your everyday living expenses. Tossing around a couple of hundred here and there for reps alone does not really afford the right perspective IMHO. So the average gen buyer can feel slighted by the existence of reps and the people who try to pass them off as gen. But the wealthy gen owner might not pay much attention unless they have stretched for a high dollar Patek or AP and see the waiter sporting one. At another level is ones ego or self image. This is very powerful and if the above people see a person wearing a gen and they look similar to the image they have of themselves, they tend to feel validated. But if the person is of a different or lower social status, it can rub against the powerful image they have of themselves. This dissonance can cause an anxiety that comes out in the form of anger towards rep wearers. This is pretty basic and powerful psychology and may seem like BS to some so I'll just leave it there. You guys can toss it around and debate it if you want.
  12. Ahh! Must show these to the wife to get her more excited to go sooner.
  13. Ah yes, Prosciutto, ili speck sa malo kruh i zeleni luk sa sol. imas slika od lignje i pivica? Evo ti malo crem snite iz Novom.
  14. Exactly why I have this thread going http://www.rwg.cc/topic/150091-wtb-iwc-mark-xvii-and-pilot-chrono-3717/ [Hijack Mode: OFF]
  15. There are a couple of threads on a couple of boards. RG has two threads. One where Angus says PP froze $180k in their account, thanks to a rep customer. There are discussions about limiting PP to only forum members and there is other speculation. I'm waiting for the dust to settle.
  16. @Cougar Ya wifey really likes the JLC and will probably end up getting one for herself. The Reverso or a PP. She really likes this one pictured below for me but it's not versatile enough for me to justify the cost in my mind. Too dressy for everyday even in the office though I really like it. I would need to run in dressier circles on a daily basis to justify. I appreciate the perfection of the craftsmanship and the elegant design. That's what draws me to fine swiss watches.
  17. Hi Cougar, They were last year and this year's models. They had about 30 or so in that part of the case which had only the PO models and 300m models and maybe another. I held six or seven and I looked really close at the differences in the updated new grey ceramic bezels and what looked to be new darker laser etched dials. Though the newer dials had better contrast they looked inferior to the other manufactures like Rolex. Granted the other manufactures are more expensive so it makes sense. The store did not carry Rolex, IWC or AP, but had most of the other high ends like Lange, PP, JLC, Blancpain. Saw some nice six figure tourbies too. I was really hoping I would like the gen blue 300m and the PO which ranged from $4k to $6k. I think the IWC is more appealing to me in that gen price range. Rolex and VCO at the $10k to $12k range. Not sure I would want to entertain anything higher. Sorry for the thread hijack!
  18. People at all levels of social stratification work very hard to get to a certain level of success and prosperity measured against their peers. This success is represented by status and quality of their property and social circles. Facebook counted on this. So most people live in neighborhoods that reflect their level success and often choose cars, clothes, food, and other discretionary, and non discretionary items this way. Luxury watches are no different. So if you work really hard, or live a life of privilege, and the symbols of your social circles are GEN Daytonas, you will expect to have a certain rapport even with strangers sporting GEN Daytonas. And chances are you will have some common ground that is acceptable within your in-common social strata. If the person is wearing a rep AND they do not belong at your social level, you will wonder about their credibility, honesty, and many other things. Why some people actually get angry is hard to say but it probably has to do with taking offense in a personal way. That rep wearer does not deserve to wear the same symbols that I wear, or the fact that there are frauds among us cheapens our worth. Just speculating on your interesting subject
