Is It Possible To Make Manual A 7750 Modified Mvmt
r11co replied to a topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
As has been said already, if this was as easy as you are making it sound then someone would have done it already. I can't imagine a custom made case being an economical option unless the quality is going to be exceptionally poor, plus there is the issue of matching pushers/crown/stem/crystal. Also, what about bezel/markings?! I am assuming you are talking about some sort of frankenwatch using the rubbish and unreliable seconds@6 bastardised Asia 7750 movement/dial, plus all other parts bar your custom produced case?! Sorry, but that just doesn't sound appealling, and the only way you are going to get this off the ground is to find 200 people like yourself who not only believe it can be done but won't be disappointed with a crap movement, manually wound slightly thinner Daytona rep at the end... -

I admire your tenacity, Riverwind, but what you are suggesting is still going to be a [censored]-poor replica, for a lot of hassle and expense! -
Fugly, yet that is the best mass produced rep Omega pearl I have ever seen. The name also is almost ironic.

Mmmmmm. El Primero....

Fellow Dealers - Please Blacklist This Guy

Just coz you are a chicken hiding behind a keyboard doesn't mean that the rest of us can't deal with matters firmly yet fairly face to face! Ask your pal TTK - he'll teach you a few lessons!! -
You'll be very happy with one of these! But heed my tip about the clasp screw.....

PS. Is this an inopportune moment to point out that Omega's award winning Co-Axial Calibre 2500C had to be slowed from the prototype's 28,800 to 25,200?! They claimed it was to improve the power reserve, but some cynics say it was to improve the co-axial escapement's questionable reliability.

Eh? Wassat about the TAG link exactly??!!
-
He doth protest too much!! If it really doesn't matter to you and you have better things to be doing then why did you bother with the reply?! Where did you find the time in your busy schedule?
-
Only a fool distrusts Neil's opinions on new reps. He was the first to give us an objective view on the new TAG link chrono that everyone is now latching on to!
-
From one Neil to another, eh!

That's been an issue for a while now. The pearls on the current blue SMP reps (007, standard and GMT) all look like surplus Submariner pearls....
-
I thought the only redeeming ffeature of the RLJ insert was supposed to be the pearl, but the on on the left of that picture looks garbage!

What's that old joke?.... "A man says to his wife 'sorry dear, but I've been made redundant, so you will have to go out and be a prostitue to raise some cash for us to live on'. After her first night out the wife returns home looking totally dishevelled, and places her haul on the kitchen table. '$110 and 50 cents. Not much! And which miserable bastard gave you the 50 cents?' the husband asked. 'All of them!!' she replies. (best thing this thread was for was a good crap!!)

There's no good reason why this mod isn't going to work. Gst envy is a terrible thing

Link I don't care how cheap it was - it looks [censored]. Supply and demand. That watch is as cheap as it is because it isn't worth more than that. I can bet it is chrome plated brass and it will be a lottery that the movement keeps working for a few months let alone keep accurate time. My local DIY shop has a huge discount on brown paint at the moment. It's as good quality as all the other colours they are selling and even comes from the same factory, but they are selling it for a third of the price. Why - because no-one wants to paint their interior walls the colour of [censored]. Likewise I don't want to wear that [censored] on my wrist. Don't care if it was a bargain.

There are two models of 45mm PO out there, which I refer to as 45/20 and 45/22 as they differ in lug width (22mm is the correct lug width for a genuine). 45/20 comes with both Asian and ETA2836 movements and both models use the same case, caseback and bezel. There are detail difference between the faces and crowns used on the two models. Easiest way to tell them apart is the slightly different date font (ETA version is most true to gen) and the smaller hour markers on the Asian. Unfortunately the lug size is an insurmountable flaw. 45/22 comes only with ETA 2836 movement. The case, strap and bezel are the best yet available, but the watch is let down in so many other ways - hands are too short and in fact from the 42mm ETA version. Date font is completely wrong, hour markers too small and the crown is completely inaccurate. The caseback, while correctly marked, is also too fat and deep. The really sad thing is that a mix of the best parts from both reps would produce a 98% accurate 45mm PO.

It's only happened once to me so far. I can't now replicate it (tried cookie delete etc.)

Yeah, me too (mozilla), so just wait your turn!! It's a page forwarding rather than a pop up (ie. it appears in the same window - hit 'back' to return to RWG).

Regulars will be aware of my search for an accurate black bezel/rubber strap 45mm Planet Ocean (ever since I broke the news to this and other forums that it was going to be one of the watches worn by Daniel Craig in the up-and-coming new Bond flick). Anyhoo - I see one of our most favoured dealers is now carrying a properly dimensioned 45mm with 22mm lugs.... Link. Looks the same as trusty's but for $90 less!! Starting with the positives - correct bezel scallopping (the first 45 to have this!!), case dimensions look spot on (so hopefully the gen rubber strap will now fit unlike before), He valve correctly placed. Downs - hands and markers too small, datewheel font wrong, Omega logo on crown too small and crown itself oversized. Caseback is WAY TOO FAT, presumably to accomodate the poor and unecessary choice of 2836 movement (the thickest of the 28xx range). Shame shame shame Even with the correct case dimensions this it too far away from accurate to even act as a starting point for a modding project. One wonders why when the 45mm job with the wrong lug spacing manages to have correct date font/markers/crown/caseback depth. (Hmmm, thinks Frankenrep.....)

Yup, I'm getting the pop-over ads too (mine was for something called 'PocketDogs' ). Is this the host trying to make some extra cash on the back of our popularity?!

Problem With The Bezel On An Smp Gmt
r11co replied to Everythingape's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
You are a lucky man!! I was reading this thread and realised the parts you were looking for were identical to the ones used for the ratchet on the 45mm/20mm Planet Ocean and I happened to have a spare set. Got to the last post and I put them back into my spares bag, otherwise you'd have been getting a PM...
