  1. There is something very ghey about those pics.
  2. MMMMmmm - IWC Gst. I'm trying to convince myself that if I get a titanium one it is different enough from my other favourite 7750 (TAG Link) to justify the investment.....
  3. The 'out of production' issue seems to be cropping up a fair bit at the moment. I can only assume that the factories are being shut down at a fair rate! Seems TTK was right....!
  4. Mine broke once - gravity compensation spring on the chrono section snapped meaning the chrono would only run when the watch was held with the face vertical. Repair and service was <$20. Sounds too cheap to be true I know, but the watchmaker concerned is a legend around these parts... I read on another forum that this particular movement is 'unofficially' being recognised as a calibre in its own right - being referred to as the 8850!!
  5. Car wax is good. Minimal abrasive qualities and it will protect the finish from environmental tarnish. Any form of polish is a no-no.
  6. I was wondering there! Not like you to slip up on a movement detail like that MVB It's the thinness of the 2892 that makes the SMP reps that use it such a joy because then you can fit the genuine style shallower caseback!!
  7. It's a TAG, not an IWC I find one of these essential for such purposes..
  8. Hey - that doesn't count!! It's hardly a rep now, is it!!? I'm concurring with those who say the TAG Link chronos. The incorrect model number isn't even an issue if you select the brushed bezel model (but then you'd have to fix the whacky font datewheel).
  9. Yup. The clasp screw is an issue with these, as I posted about here. The good news is replacements are plentiful and relatively easy to get hold of. As for the chrono issue, I never noticed before but mine does the same thing!!! A minor annoyance though, and not an issue if you are aware of it. It doesn't detract from this rep in particular though as it's a 7750 issue. I'm keeping my eyes open on the 'Bay for a decently priced ETA/Valjoux, as I really think this case and band deserve it..... PS. AFAIK the gen isn't AR coated.... PPS. It's known that the 7750 (genuine and rep) will suffer from misalignments if the chrono and/or date change are operated when the power reserve is low. The full wind trick is something recommended to the owners of real 7750's!!!
  10. Expect to pay circa $250. One dealer (who shall remain nameless) was selling for under $200 but there was a crucial difference in their model - it had a thinner case and used a brass movement spacer, whereas with the gen and best reps the movement fits the case with no spacer.
  11. I'm with you on that one. The PO Chrono is disappointing 'in the metal' compared to the publicity shots we've all seen and drooled over. I'm STILL waiting for 45mm/22mm lug black PO with black rubber strap........
  12. No particular issues with the movement as fitted to these reps (beyond what has already been said about the latest Asia 7750 clone movement). Mine resets perfectly every time, even when it wasn't running 100% due to a gravity compensation spring breaking (which was replaced by my favourite watchmaker!!) I'll say it again like I was first to say it in here - this is up there with the 2892 Omega Seamasters and the MBW vintage Subs - accuracy and dimensions are 100% to the extent genuine parts will fit with no modification! The only flaws are a datewheel that looks trange not because there is a problem with the movement but because it has been printed off centre, as confirmed by my watchmaker (hey Mark/Finepic - fancy making a batch of these up??!!! ), and the model number on the caseback is one digit out (actually the model number of the brushed bezel version).
  13. I've not seen the latest 45mm rep with the 22mm lug size, but the previous generation 45mm bezel insert is completely different in design to the genuine and they are not interchangeable. It must be said though that the new 45mm PO bezel appears to be different construction. I'm afraid this one is going to be a case of first person to try wil be the first to know...
  14. Lugless?! Don't you mean guardless?! Anyway, it's official then - there's a demand for these, so if there are any peeps connected with the factories lurking here, get to it....
  15. Almost as good a sense of humour as yours Pug! (PS. I still think you should be putting those 'Polfy' T-shirts into production. Oh, hang on....).
  16. Proves that (the real) Paul still has his sense of humour.
  17. It is getting to the ridiculous stage when you feel you have to apologise for that Fine work, and it doesn't matter if the pics are a little dark (ahem!! ) Incidentally, to hijack the thread completely, does anyone know if any of our dealers are carrying the CG'less vintage subs these days (Silix used to but are now showing them as 'out of production'), as I've been dying to buy one to wear with a NATO.
  18. Yup, and forget the fast-setting 'Rapide' stuff as it is too thick when mixed. Trick is to apply it with a pin, and you probably only need about 8 spots round the bezel. Another wee bit of advice is to keep the mixture you made up because when it is set hard then you know your insert is set hard too!!

    One-trick Ponies??!
  20. It has since transpired that the '2892's in these watches were in fact Seagull ST-18 (licenced?) replicas of the ETA movement. Not a criticism, but in fact a testament to the high quality of the ST-18
  21. Not even close. Add the cost of a 2892 movement, replacement caseback (shallower therefor more accurate, and fits now you've got the thinner movement) and maybe replace the watch body seeing as the He valve will still be wrong.... See, these old skool 007 SMPs were value, but I didn't know it at the time. Big mark-ups now for very good reasons, although getting one of the new ones with the He valve in the right place and replacing the face might be an option.......
  22. I removed mine completely and reglued it (same initial problem). Heat the thing first (hair dryer will suffice) then carefully prize the thing off with something non-metallic (finger nail should do it!). Careful not to bend it though. Clean off the residue on the insert and bezel with a cloth and a small amount of white spirit. Re-attach with two-pack epoxy, and take the opportunity to re-align the pearl/triangle with the 12 marker. SMALL dots of glue on the bezel (careful you don't get any between the bezel and the crystal coz when it sets that bezel will never turn again). Use some tape to hold it in place while the glue sets.
  23. Eh!? How did you manage to get hold of one of these???!!!
