Just to update you all. I picked up a new sheet of blanks today and I am very happy with them. I found another source and they are huge improvement over my original batch that I tried to paint myself. So in a way, I'm glad I screwed up the first batch as these are far superior! These ones will be professionally painted, and I'm just waiting to hear back from the painter as to when he can squeeze me in. Here is a pic of the sheet I laid out for the painter. They are perfectly flat. These are stainless and for being so thin, they are quite stiff, so they will be perfect for using as an overlay. OD of each disc is 23mm and ID is 14.9mm. Ideal to glue to your ETA date discs! We're getting closer.

It is just printed on the protective cling film. It has been a feature for a couple years. It depends on the dealer if they leave the film on or not. Here is a GMT with the cling

nice lume shots!

Well, I'm not expert, but I'm sure it is a gen movement. I doubt it is from a 1680 though. Look at the date disc holder on top of the movement. It is beveled for a DJ pie pan dial. Here is a pic of a GMT movement. Notice the date disc holder is square top, not beveled. Here is another pic with the square, non beveled date disc holder If you notice, a lot of the other auctions state Submariner or 1680 movement in the title. I guess selling it as a 1680 movement sounds more appealing then 1601 movement or even 1500 movement. I'm sure it is a beater movement pulled from an old 1601 DJ they picked up for cheap. If anyone has any connections with RSC or any Rolex tech, they could run the COSC number to see what model watch it originally came from.

should have a flip lock buckle and the end links are not genuine. too bad, that would have been a great price. I'm not up on the 93150 bracelets, but the whole package could be "non-genuine". The stampings look too big. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Have you looked into EDM? Try and find a machine shop with an EDM plunge. They will be able to get it out. An electrical pulse will break up the tap.

Great story! After all the crap I've heard in the news today, this made my day much better. -
Yes, definitely the easier option so you don't have to worry about swapping parts! And it is only 0.30mm, so you wouldn't really notice it.

As I mentioned in my post. every transaction can be traced. even if they try to have something shipped to another addres... there is a trail.
-
Not to be a "Doubting Thomas", but how do you clean out a Paypal account? Only way I know to get money out of my account is to "send", "withdraw" or "pay" with debit card. All of which are easily traced. So how hard would it be to figure out where the money went? There would have to a trail leading to the thief.

One of those discs is for ladies and one is for mid size. case number of the watch would help. Everything else is gold but the date disc? dial markers, hands, bezel, crown?

Well, still awaiting word on the blanks. I hope I'm not holding up anyone's project too long. I just want to make sure of a quality product. Anyway, I finished a modern 3135 date disc layout and sent the file off to be made into a printing plate. Again, the artwork was created for GEN dials. But, since this is all in vector, it is possible to shift the numbers to the right to align with Noob dials. I may have to reduce the font size slighty to fit the window in gen perspective. I would have to order another printing plate though. So I don't know if there would be enough interest for a Noob dial overlay. Once I get the Flat Top's and the gen spec 3135's, I'll look at Noob overlays if there is enough interest. I apologize for the delay, but some things are out of my hands.

good point. depending where you buy, the price difference is between $100 to $150 US

as far as modding the movement. It is just a swap for the Hour Wheel, Cannon Pinion and 4th wheel. If you go with a 2892-A2, you will need H.3 fitting height. You can order those parts from cousins as well. you will also need a date disc and hand set.
-
I ordered a Sea-Gull last week out of curiousity. I don't know if it will accept ETA parts, such as 4th wheel, hour wheel, or cannon pinion. I hope so.

I've got some for 2824-2, 2892-A2, 2834-2, and 2836-2. I don't know if any from that series will fit the 2871. There are basically three different heights. black print on white? I will have to check if I have a spare flat. I'm pretty sure I have one from a 2824-2.

Hot damn! What a site. thanks for sharing. Right off the top, I see something I've been drooling over... the De Bethune. It has a variable winding rotor. You can adjust how much the rotor winds the mainspring based on how active you are. What a rare watch... I've never seen one for sale before! Unfortunately way out of my league. I see they have a couple of Anonimo... but sold. Anonimo, is another small company with very limited runs. I'd love to get one of their anniversary pieces with the bronze case.

Well, I'm getting worried that there might be a further delay due to "Chinese New Year" as I'm working on getting some blanks from China and am hoping it comes together before everything shuts down. These will be for the white blanks. I'm trying to find the pre-painted at a decent price and I may have my source! I'm also looking at a source for the brushed radial blanks. I have one quote from a dial restorer, and they quoted me 45 euro for each finished blank! I'm waiting for a few other quotes to come in. If this is the only guy that can do it, I wil probably order a couple blanks for myself, but I don't know if others will be willing to pay that much. I guess it all depends on the final results. @ slick: did you want champagne for the flat top 3? I could probably paint one of the white blanks, or see if I can get a gold radial brushed disc along with the silver. I have a gen in gold and it looks great. Thanks.

Another example of how microsoft does not get it!

Here, this one should work. -
So they have this new program called Songsmith, you can get a quick background here: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/um/red...ects/songsmith/ and someone ran a vocal track of David Lee Roth through the program. You can listen to the results here: http://music.metafilter.com/2943/Runnin-With-The-Songsmith Now I dont' know what is more awful. The results of Diamond Dave being interpreted by Microsoft... or the god awful program itself. just painful! utterly painful. also, if you take a closer look to the youtube clip, you can see that the little girl is using a macbook... they just put some stickers on it to hide the apple logo.

2892-A2 is thinner than the 2824-2. (0.30mm thinner on the dial side if measuring center stem to top of mainplate) You would need a spacer between the dial and movement in order to align the stem. Also, you would need to replace the date disc. The 2824-2 and 2892-A2 discs sit flush in the mainplate. So if you use a 2892-A2, the date disc would be 0.30mm away from the date window and look funny. You would need to find a 2834-2 disc as that disc sits up in the movement. (0.20mm taller than the flat disc in a 2824-2/2892-A2) Also, the 2892-A2 is slightly larger in diameter than the 2824-2. (0.02mm) So depending on how tight the movement holder is, it may not fit with the existing holder. Good news is, the dial feet are in the same location. But bad news is, you may have to swap the CP, HW in order to compensate for the 0.30mm spacer. You would probably only have to go up one hand fitting height to H.2.

I'm confident in the file. I've measured 5 gen dials that I have, and they all fall within 0.01mm of center on the date window. I've used my measurements to assist in the layout. For reference, I've layered a scan of one of a gen dial over the finished file. Also, for reference, I've layered a "virtual" dial over the file with different dates to show the layout. My "virtual" dial is built from exact measurements of the gen dial.

Hi Stephane... so is your DW the silver painted disc, not brushed? With the round top 3. I have to do some digging, but I think I have a silver painted disc kicking around.

Hmmmm.... a chocolate dial! I wouldn't complain about that! A bonus in my opinion. Good to hear you found a tritium insert.
