  1. I did think of buying to flip, but I don't know if it is a guarantee right now. I may sit on it for a while. But, then again. it may just appreciate in value and that could be a good thing.
  2. My local AD called me today to let me know that they just got in a Deep Sea and they are holding it for me to come and look at. DAMN! I tell me wife and she says to go get it. God bless her. But there is no way I can justify dropping that kind of money right now, especially with the economy the way it is.
  3. No, he didn't ask if it was gen. It was a weird situation. He was just so pushy about it. I do doubt that he was going to roll me, but you never know. I do think he was trying to get it cheap though. I was asking hypothetically about selling as the opportunity to sell has passed. My immediate reaction was no. But looking back had me thinking, if he was trying to lowball, then it would serve him right for dropping 2K on a franken. But karma can be a [censored] and I would get mine as well. Or worse. Anyway, if the day does come for me to sell, I will be offering it to my friends on RWG first. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.
  4. So the other day I was out for a quick bite at the mall food court minding my own business. It was vintage day, so I was wearing my Franken 1016. A gentleman approached. Him: "Nice watch, looks like an old one there." Me: "Yes". Him: "Can I look at it?" Me: *hold up wrist and let him look at it.* It did not leave my wrist. Him: "Wow! I've been looking for one like that. I'll give you $1500 for it." Me: "Sorry, not interested in selling" Him: "Come on, I really want it, I can give you $2000. There is an ATM over there, I'll get you cash right now!" Me: "Sorry, not interested." Him: "I'm serious, I can give you cash right now! It is only worth $1500 to $1700 tops. I'll give you $2000 cash, right here, right now." Me: "Sorry" Him: "You sure? Me: "Yes, I'm sure." FIrst off, I don't like discussing $$$ with my friends and family, let alone strangers in a mall. But was this guy ever pushy. He either knew watches, and figured he could pull a fast one by thinking I was naive, or he was going to roll me in the parking lot later. If he knew watches, he would know that 1016's range in price from $3500 to $9000, so maybe he was trying to get it for a deal. Not a comfortable situation. Should I have sold it, since he was trying to pull a quick one? It cost me about $1100 to build, not to mention all the time researching, finding the parts, test fitting, and building a hybrid movement. What would Jesus do?
  5. Yeah, Philly and TB, that should be a good series! Although, it would have been interesting to see Manny take it to his old team in the world series. (poke poke at you Bosox fans! )
  6. Listening to the new Ray Lamontagne "Gossip In The Grain". It hasn't grabbed me like his last album... but that is not always a bad thing. It could be a grower. If you haven't checked out this amazing artist, give "Till The Sun Turns Black" a spin.
  7. I always remove the stem in pos. 1 as well (winding) I've never had a problem. I guess it is personal preference.
  8. part number 23-9293. shorter than the Submariner/GMT springbars, but definitely 2mm. I have a set in mine... 1016 springbars
  9. All right amigo! It is coming along. just need to bore out the lug holes to accept the 2mm springbars.
  10. How about a movement shot? It looks like a beauty!
  11. Ahh yes, the classic stereotype of Canada. LOL. We have ours....
  12. Yes, a stellar day on the westcoast! The weather was beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving!
  13. What a beauty! Nice job. Nothing beats genuine parts! I'm sure she will love it.
  14. My quarterly pension report is due and I'm a little worried at what I'm going to see. I haven't even logged in to see where my funds sit.
  15. Yes, both are good prices. Just make sure the screws and clamps are included with the holder.
  16. Thanks Freddy, that is a good tip. But I have a gen champagne disc as well. I just used the white for a quick picture.
  17. A couple pics (quick n dirty) to show you what you need to do if you want to build a franken with that 68273 case. Here is the ETA 2000-1 in the Rolex 2135 movement holder: Here is a pic with the genuine 2135 date disc: (jewelled gear will need to be removed) And here is with the dial installed. There are no dial feet with the 2135 midsize. The dial has a lip that is pressure fit to the movement holder, Here is the set up installed in the case: And a collection of parts waiting to come to life as a Mid-Franken-Just! One TT and one SS.
  18. Nice one! That ETA 2000 is a near perfect fit, and a very high quality movement as well. .
  19. It is an expensive venture if you have a specific project in mind. When I first considered the project. I picked up a complete set for under $200. Included, dial, crown, bezel, and crystal. I found a good price on an ETA 2000-1, so I picked that up as well. I did a lot of research before I decided on the 2000. It is 0.20mm difference in diameter vs 2135. I then figured I would source a genuine Rolex movement holder. Found one of those, test fitted the movement and it is very very close and will work for the project. Also, the dial is a pressure fit dial and attaches to the movement holder. No dial feet to worry about. The movement is attached to the holder with screws, then the movement and holder is fit in the case with clamps. The only problem is, the ETA 2000-1 sits 0.20mm too low in the holder for stem alignment. I have to figure out a way to raise the movement up in the holder so the stem is aligned with the tube. The movement holder also acts as a support for the date disc. I found a gen to use. It will need to be glued to the ETA as an overlay. I also had to order taller cannon, hour, and fourth wheel. Clark has a genuine disc for sale right now. Just make sure you get the disc for mid-size, not ladies. And that is it for 2135 and not 2235. 2135 matches ETA date progression. If you can get all the parts, it looks like an easy build, especially if you go with an ETA 2000-1 and a genuine 2135 movement holder. I recommend getting the movement holder as that is what the dial is attached to, and what supports the date disc. The date disc is larger in diameter than the movement, so you will need the holder. There is a seller that had on the bay for $295! Way too much money, and it did not include the clamps and screws. Check with the seller of the cases, if he has that many cases, he may have the movement holder to go with it. I found a couple of holders from a seller in HK, but you really have to ask around to find them. Not very common.
  20. They are real. I have a project on the go right now. Parts are NOT easy to source for this. I have been at it for over a year. I finally have everything I need, except a decent bracelet. I have a TT setup with dial, and I also bought one of the cases as listed, but then I had to source a smooth SS bezel, a dial, a movement holder, crown, crystal, and movement. I am using an ETA 2000-1 movement. They are not cheap. List on them is $350.00. They are nearly identical to the Rolex 2135 in size. I sourced a genuine Rolex movement holder, and it fits the ETA nicely. I just need a 0.20mm spacer to line up the stem. I also sourced a genuine date disc that I will use, as well as a genuine dial, and hands. The hands will need to be broached, but they are very close in size to ETA. Hardest parts to find were the gen movement holder and a bezel. Dials are fairly easy to find, but very expensive if you want a nice one. ETA 2000-1 is easy to find if you want to spend $350, not easy to find on the used market. Crown is easy to find as it is regular 24-530-0. Crystal is easy to find. Good Luck.
  21. It is Canadian Thanksgiving this Monday! LOL
  22. A quick word of advise. Do not buy cheap or inexpensive tools. Sure you may think, "I'm only going to use it once." But in speaking from experience, nothing will de-rail a project quicker than a cheap tool breaking, or worse, damaging a part or rendering it useless.
  23. That is a beauty, and will only go up in value. My local AD says they now have a waiting list for this model... they aren't expecting anymore from Rolex, but collectors are hopeful. btw. I received that bezel from you! Thank you!
  24. I am looking at picking up an RF remote to control my components. Right now I'm looking at the Logitec Harmony 890 or 890 PRO. I want an RF remote so I can move some components into a cabinet away from small hands! The little one seems to be enjoying my stereo more than me, but for different reasons. Also, I want to install a set of speakers on the deck and run as a seperate zone from my receiver, so I want the RF range to control the stereo. Anyone use one? Or use something similar? I will need an RF convertor as some of my components are IR, but the 890 comes with an extender to control non RF components. Also, would it work with Apple TV? Some say yes, some say no... I guess I just have to search a little harder for the answer.
  25. Interesting selection! To go from "Free to Decide" by the Cranberries, to "Master of Puppets", to "Walk of Life"! Do you have it on random or genius? Right now I'm listening to the new AC/DC. Pretty solid and will be a huge release for them.
