  1. As Ubi stated. You must take into account the cost of servicing, and repair if necessary. Not to mention the time it takes to get the service completed... or repaired if parts need replacing and special ordered. It can take over a month at times to just get one part! Also, the movements you buy "new" from Ofrei, etc, may not be "new". They are usually bulk movements purchased from clearance houses, wholesalers, etc, and at times require a full service as well. The only way you will know with 100% confidence that your movement is new and factory fresh, is if you buy one in a sealed vacuum pack, just like the one below. They are not cheap though! The last 2892-A2 cost me $265.00 and the 2824-2 cost me $165.00. Both sealed.
  2. I know one of the local AD's are over MSRP. They sold a Deep Sea for $10500.00. And they sold the Green Milgauss for over $10000.00 as well. I asked if they were allowed to sell above MSRP and the salesman said "of course"! He told me both models were sold before they even made it to the store and didn't even hit the display case. I'm guessing someone came in and made an offer they couldn't refuse and probably paid in advance. He also told me that the value of the SD is going up as he cannot get anymore from Rolex and has a few names down looking for one. He told me the previous SD is now discontinued.
  3. I'm thinking of getting a small batch of golf balls made with the OP logo. I usually just mark mine with a sharpie, but I met another guy who has a custom logo on his and liked the idea. I couldn't really think of another logo that I would like other than the OP, so I think I will go with that. Preliminary investigation has the cost of these custom balls running about $72 dozen + tax for Pro V1's. I only play Pro V1's so I only looked at getting those done. If anyone else is interested, I can see if I can mix and match the ball brands and styles. Or if anyone doesn't golf, but just wants a Panerai ball, just let me know.
  4. Hey T, The stem is removed the same was as with a 2824, 2836, etc. Look for the key-hole shaped hole, and the release button is inside. It is just not as obvious as with the other movements.
  5. I agree 100%. How big of an A$$ do you have to be to leave your wife after she stands by your side. and I also must add: I have zero respect for that douche-bag.
  6. Hey T, Is that bezel from a 16233 case, or perhaps it is a 16013, or other aftermarket? How easily did it slip over the crystal? I have a fluted bezel from a 1601 and 16014, as well as a smooth bezel from a 16000. I'll try and get to measure them for you. And yes, the sapphire DJ's do use 5.3mm tubes. I'm guessing you have a 6mm crown for the 6mm tube. Whatever you do, don't ream the 5.3mm tube to try and fit it. You will only weaken the tube and it will break off in the case when you screw the crown in snug.
  7. Proper stem alignment is extremely crucial, otherwise the stem will snap, and the crown will not screw down properly. Maybe .45mm means nothing in your world, but to a modder or builder, it is a huge. The reason I suggested the change, is I'm sure other modders or builders would be interested in a 1:1 case that would accept a gen movement, or something other than the 2836-2. Modders have been dropping in 1570's in MBW cases, so why not with a modern sub? You can pick up beater 15200 cheap, salvage the movement, install a gen bezel assembly, crystal, etc as Ubi did, and you can have a nice franken Sub for a great price.
  8. Oh the potential of this Submariner case! I've had a chance to go over my Euro Sub and the case is an excellent starting point for the quest for a perfect 'modern' Franken sub. May I make one suggestion. See if you can get the factory to make a run of cases that are true 1:1 as far as the crown position. The factory drilled and tapped the tube position to fit an ETA 2836-2 movement. The stem position in this movement is 0.45mm further back then the Rolex 3135. I bet that you could get a lot of people interested in a case if one could fit either a ETA 2892-A2 or Rolex 3135! Oh the possibilities! The case already accepts genuine parts and if one could fit in a genuine movement... you would be a hero to the modding world! I measured the inside diameter of my case and fitting a 3135 would be no problem. The only other suggestion, if your factory will not move the tube position, is to at least drill lug holes. Then if one wanted, they could fit a 3035 in the case and have a nice transitional model. A 3035 movement should fit no problem.
  9. I guess I can play this game too. So far, the only member I've met face to face, from this board anyway, is the infamous EL. We enjoyed Triple 'O's and Nat Bailey Ale. (a B.C. thing)
  10. What a beauty! And very inspiring as well! Excellent photos! BTW - what movement is running that baby?
  11. Finally, I had a chance to take a few shots with the Jubilee. I hope you like the pics. Unfortunately, the Mrs. doesn't really like this too much. I thought she would, but she thinks it is a bit too flashy. Here's a nice frontal with a shot of the open 9 in the font. Here's a shot of the open 6 in the font. (I was wearing a red shirt and you can see that the color was picked up in the dial and it appears pink) Another side shot Nice looking crystal! The Jubilee bracelet is in excellent condition. Nice and tight. A member has expressed interest in this beauty already, and I will give him first dibs. If he is no longer interested, I will offer this up in the trading area with priority to those I know, and to fellow Canadians so there is no customs worries. Thanks.
  12. Go for it.... as long as it doesn't affect your Deep Sea budget!
  13. Jules Borel is sold out. I called them a while ago. My local supplier is sold out. I did find a new vacuum sealed one about a month ago from a supplier in Toronto, but I grabbed the last one. Cost me $160. They had a couple of 17 J versions that were bulk. (not sealed, but in plastic containers). They have been discontinued from ETA, so whatever is out in the field is all that is now available. good luck.
  14. Dial feet are easily removed by clipping them and carefully sanding or filing off the burr left from the feet. So far, I have yet to find a way to attach new dial feet. The proper way to attach feet is to solder them, but that also runs the risk of damaging the dial. If you use a CNC milled movement holder, you can just glue the dial to the movement holder. The holder is a perfect fit for the case and does not shift. Probably the easiest way to build a franken.
  15. What a beautiful dial! I love the font and the finish on the movement. Very Classy.
  16. LOL. I suddenly got the image of you in some seedy peeler bar with a fistful of singles stuffing them in places they shouldn't be!
  17. Damn.... I was hoping for a blue lume shot! I second Pug. I really like it as well.
  18. Hand delivery or pickup is the best method for sure. Hey T, if you have no choice but to ship, your best bet is to call Parcel Pro first. http://www.parcelpro.com/ They will set up the shipping and offer third party insurance. Up to $75K for domestic and $50K for International. I have used them a few times. No problems. They have a strict policy of NOT marking the contents on the box, as I'm sure that is why most packages go missing!
  19. You will also need one of these: Sorry for the shameless plug ETA 2824-2 movement holder to fit in 16200 case. Perfect CNC machining for stem alignment and case fitting. They make Frankenbuilding so much easier! Rignt now, I'm pretty much sold out of these, but am hoping to have some more made soon if the shop can squeeze me in.
  20. Wow! I've never been called a whack job before! If I'm a whack job, what do you call those Spaniards that are getting chips implanted so they can get in a VIP lounge at a nightclub? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/3697940.stm This technology is everywhere. The chips are now being used in US passports, and when scanned, not only show the data, but the picture as well. It is not science fiction, it is real. You can store any info you want on those chips, and it is just a matter of time. Why carry a wallet when you can just get an implant? Check out this story, old news yes, but still relevant. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5439055/
  21. I think it is a very appropriate term since I = IDIOT!
  22. The scary thing is, one day it will be a requirement, and you will be told it is for your own protection. No need for a passport anymore when you can be scanned. No need to carry cash, no need for credit cards, no need for any identification. All that information will be contained in a "chip" and it will be for your convenience. Just like the little chip in your PayPass Mastercard. Just tap n go. We will be told this will be for our security and benefit. Fear makes us do crazy things. First fear of terrorism, now fear of identity theft. It is scary but it is true.
  23. Yes!!!! Call it security, call it the "mark of the beast", call it whatever, but it will happen. You can already "chip" your pets. Why not your children? Fear makes people do weird things. ... now back to my merlot.
  24. Definitely buy the gen. Make a deal with the GF. Have her buy 1/2 and you the other. It is your 30th after all, why not get a genuine, it will just be that more special. That one in the link you posted looks like [censored]. It will die in a couple months and then what will you have to show for your birthday? I'm sure you could find a gen for decent price out there.
