  1. I'll tell you what they can do! Nail you with crazy broker fees! I'm sure most of you know this already. At least my Canadian friends. UPS is the worst courier out there. period. So I order a part from a seller, one that I've never dealt with before, so he doesn't know any better. But he ships it to me via UPS. The part is only $50.00. Package arrives. The driver says COD please. $53.41. I look at it. Refuse it, and call UPS. First off, they rounded it up to a $100 value. BS. Then they want $41.00 to broker it. even more BS. I ask if I can broker it myself. They say sure. It will take a day or two for them to get the paperwork ready. Four days go by, still no paperwork, so I decide to go down and get it. No explanation why they didn't call me or why it wasn't ready. I wait 20 minutes and finally get the paperwork. Off to Canada customs, wait another 20 minutes. Luckily I brought a copy of my PP receipt to show the actual value of the part. They clear it no problem, and I only pay $6.13. Normally I get packages via USPS or HK Post, with values of $100 or more and I never get dinged. But since I was there, I guess they had to charge me something. $6.13 vs $53.41. Was it worth the hassle? Probably not. A total of 2+ hours of my time to get a $50 part. I could have saved the time and paid the fees. But it really shows you how much they are ripping people off by clearing their packages for them. I feel sorry for the poor folks that do not have a UPS office or Canada Customs office nearby as you would have no choice but to pay the stupid UPS broker fee. The next time I buy something from a new seller, I will include in the payment comment. *DO NOT SHIP UPS* Sorry, I just had to rant!
  2. Clone 3135 would mean they would have to make a new case to fit it in. All those rep cases are machined to fit the current ETA/ Asian movements. Seems like a lot of cost involved for really no gain. Maybe you could use the clone movement in a gen case for a franken project, but even then, who would buy it? I can't see the quality being that great. Better to go with a Swiss ETa if you are using genuine parts.
  3. OH my! on a serious note.... be careful when uploading your photo ID to facebook for identity verification! Read This: Facebook Leaks Personal Identification
  4. I know nothing! good news, the holders should be in production by Friday and be ready for pick up early next week. I had to order a whole wack of them in order to get a decent price break, otherwise it isn't worth doing. I'll have a final price once the job is complete. Here is what is getting made: 2892-A2 > 3135 2824-2/2836-2/2846 > 3035 2824-2 > 3135 ( the stem alignment for 2824-2 is off center by 0.05mm. It will still work, but overlay installation will be tight) There is a good chance the 2824-2/2836-2/2846 > 3035 will also work for a 1570 conversion, but I will not be certain until I get a case to test fit.
  5. Best movement option would be an ETA 2846. slower beat rate is closer to 1570 sweep. And the stem should line up nicely with the tube. You will just need a movement holder to hold it securely in the case.
  6. Well, visited an actual camera store instead of the big blue box. No offence if anyone who reads this works for a Big Box, but the quality of service and knowledge I received from the camera store was excellent. The salesman had no problem spending over an hour with me to help me with my decision rather than try to sell me the most expensive camera. Anyway, I pulled the trigger on the Nikon D80. Skipped on the package deal, and opted for a better quality lens and body. I could have got the body and two lenses for $40 more in a kit, but figured I would get the better lens, and if I needed the zoom, I could always get it later. It was a toss up between the Nikon D80 and Canon 40D, but in the end the Nikon won out. It was smaller, lighter, and the build felt a lot better. A step up from the Nikon D40 with room to grow. Since my wife is interested in a photography course, I figured I would get her something more than entry level. I'm sure she will be happy.
  7. I am wondering if there is more interest in the conversion movement holders that I had made. I sold the few remaining, and other members have been enquiring. These are CNC milled conversion holders to go from ETA 2892-A2 to Rolex 3135. I'm also working on a conversion holder to go from ETA 2824-2 / 2836-2 to Rolex 3035. These holders securely fit the movement in a genuine Rolex case and provide perfect stem alignment, etc. I'm just waiting to get a time scheduled with the CNC shop as they are very busy. Maybe this week, maybe next week. Here is a link to my previous post on the 2892-A2 holder: ETA 2892-A2 conversion holder If you are interested, please let me know! Thanks.
  8. I'm looking for an DSLR right now. I heard the wife talking with her friends yesterday, and one of her friends has taken a DSLR course and loved it. Now I heard her talking with her friend that they should do it together. With Mother's Day coming up, I think I'm going to get her a camera. We've talked about it before, and we already have 2 point and shoots, but we are finding we are missing photo op's of our daughter as the start up time on the point and shoots is too long and we miss some great shots. Two that I am looking at is Nikon's D80 with a 18-135 lens and 70-300 lens. And the Canon XSi with 18-55 lens and 55-250 lens. Price difference is about $400, with the Nikon being more expensive. I was at a big box retailer, and they were pushing me on the more expensive. and I really don't think they know that much about them. I may just go to an actual camera store, get some good advise, and hope they price match the flyer price of the big box. Personally, I'm thinking Canon. The package price for body and two lenses is $1149. Any thoughts or opinions? crick0234's post has me thinking Canon as well for ease of use. I have big hands, but the wife will probably be using it more... and I'll probably only use it for watch shots!
  9. Actually, Rolex did produce a display caseback for the GMT back in 1961. Very rare item. Also, there is a watchmaker in Germany that sells display backs. Here is the link: http://www.beepworld.de/members97/uhren-sc...k-preik/usa.htm And thanks for the thread... I've been meaning to order one from this guy. I'll order one today before I forget!
  10. Did you select Product Range: Mecaline Then Calibre: 6497-1 it's right there in pdf for download.
  11. About 5 years ago when I was visiting my sister, her husband took me to a place called he Blind Tiger. Somewhere in the village. ended up meeting Gord Gano (Violent Femmes) and hoisted a few. I think it was on Bleecker
  12. Eta has it on their site. https://secure.eta.ch/CSP/DesktopDefault.as...=3&tabid=28
  13. Hi, for the modern DJ case. 16200, etc. The only movement to use is the 2892-A2, or 2892-2. You can use the 2824-2, but I find the tolerances are too tight for proper date overlay installation and stem alignment. You can't have both. You need some clearance between the dial and movement for a free turning date overlay and this causes the stem to be out of alignment. If you use the 2892-A2 with the holder I had made, everything is set up for a perfect fit in the 16200 case. You even have enough space between movement and dial to use a genuine Rolex date disc. The Rolex disc is glued to the ETA disc and turn freely under the dial. You just need to make sure you have the proper hand fitting height for the Rolex dial. This involves changing the hour wheel, cannon pinion, and fourth wheel. Also, I am currently in the development stage of a CNC milled holder for the 160XX DJ case that uses 3035 movement. The holder will be for ETA 2824-2 and 2836-2 conversion into the 3035 case. I'm hoping for some prototypes in the next week or two, as well as a 16014 case, gen dial for some test fitting.
  14. Nico, I was browsing around the 'bay and stumbled upon this. 140226080006 For a second I thought you had listed it. LOL! As you mention "feel", that is something that can't be repped. Not only does your new watch look gen, it definitely has a gen "feel" pic of the gen being auctioned.
  15. Sure, Franken 16220 Datejust. Proper engine turned bezel to match case number. Gen rolex dial that is a real beauty and not very common. genuine rolex date disc, genuine rolex jubilee bracelet. aftermarket hand set. Powered by an ETA 12892 COSC certified movement. This is a chronometer grade movement with certification number engraved on the mainplate. These movements are very high quality. You can just tell when you manually wind them. They are silky smooth and effortless. No whirring or swishing sound, or any other noise. They have the feel of a genuine Rolex. What do you think Nico, can you feel the quality of the movement? The movement is perfectly fitted to the case with perfect stem alignment so no snapping or binding or the stem and the crown screws down perfectly. I'm glad your watchmaker took the time to regulate the watch back to COSC standards and also make sure it was waterproof. Enjoy!
  16. Hey Nico, If you ever do change the bezel, let me know... I'd gladly buy that engine turned bezel back from you. Nice pics btw! enjoy!
  17. very very nice! Good score on the 3055 disc. The open fonts are very hard to find these days. pretty much extinct. what movement did you use?
  18. and answered. thanks J3
  19. I emailed him prior to bidding, specifically asking that a 603 crown be sent, as pictured in the auction. I was very specific in my request and figured he couldn't get it wrong as I was so detailed. But no! Wrong again. I also emailed him once I received the wrong crown requesting the proper crown, and shipping fees. No response. I would ding him with negative feedback, but from my experience, there is always retaliation feedback left, so I would rather just forget about it and never deal with him again. So, from my experience, I would never buy from Jewelers Tools again. David has no clue as to what he is selling definitely does not have the courtesy to respond to emails or even try to fix the problem.
  20. Freddy is correct. OP Date is 34mm case. the 15200 takes the 3135 movement. But remember the dial diameter is smaller as well. 27mm If you get an older OP date case, 15000, it takes the 3035, and the 1500 takes a 1570. all have 19mm lugs Good luck!
  21. JimmyThree is the grandmaster of crowns and tubes. I haven't tried to fit a 24-603-0 to the old style tube, but I will try if you like. when rolex switched to sapphire crystals, that is when they made the 5.3mm tube standard for either 6mm or 5.3mm crowns. before, it was 6mm tube for 6mm crown, and 5.3mm tube for 5.3m crown. Now, same tube for both crowns. Very confusing. I could pretty much guarantee that you were shipped the wrong crown by the seller. Measure the neck of the crown and post your results. I'll measure both crowns and let you know my readings.
  22. Hey Freddy, I'm pretty sure his problem is the crown, not the tube. He has the old style crown that does not fit the new style tube. 16200 has a 5.3mm tube (new style). His crown is for 6mm, or old style tube. I have the same crown, same auction picture, wrong item sent. The seller is notorious for sending the wrong part, at least from my experience. I have a spare "old style" tube, and the crown mates perfectly. The seller should have sent a 6mm crown for 5.3mm tube. Even if Chief were to pick up a different tube, the tube would not fit his case. The case and tube are correct, it is the crown that is wrong. Hey Chief, you would always do what Watchbuff did, file out the tube to fit the old style crown.
  23. Hey Chief, I've had the same problem numerous times. The item pictured shows a 24-603-0. But then the crown you receive is not as pictured. I would bet that this is the case. Your Roling case is fine, it is the crown. Is this the item? He must use a stock photo, as I've been fooled a few times. It is really frustrating as you have to contact the seller, send back the crown, and hope he sends you the correct part. It is a waste of time and money, as I always end up eating the return shipping. If you are talking about the same seller, I give up. He has done it to me 5 times now. I can never win with this guy. btw: did you receive the other parts?
  24. Thanks guys. I'm still looking for a specialty store that may have a better selection. The government run store is limited in selection. It's a toss up between Jameson 12 year and Red Breast. They also have a Jameson vintage at $299 a bottle, but that's a bit expensive.
  25. So my buddy's birthday is tomorrow and I want to get him a bottle of whiskey. He's Irish, so I figured I get him some Irish Whiskey. I'm not up on what is a good Irish Whiskey, and when we get together, it is usually wine or beer so I don't really know what he likes. And the selection at my local store seems limited as well. I'm familiar with the usual suspects Bushmill and Jameson, but what about these? These are contendors that aren't going to break the bank for me. Red Breast - 12 year Cooley - Connemara Cooley - Greenore Jameson - 12 year special reserve
