Great stuff! Just keep in mind it tacks up fairly quickly, so set your part right away. And whatever you do once you install your part, don't try to reset it, otherwise you will have to clean all the glue off both parts and try again. At least that is my experience. If you need more time to set something, use a slow set epoxy.

An eta 2846 would work for you. (slow beat movement) It should be an easy alignment with the tube. All you need to do is remove the day/date bits, swap out the set bridge to 2 position. You can use a set bridge from a 2801-2. And if you are really handy, you can install a stop lever from a 2836-2 and the movement will hack. You will also need a movement holder to secure the smaller diameter ETA in the Rolex case. PM me if you want. I may be able to help you out with a holder. I have a couple of Tudor style brass movement holders that should work for you.

I don't know if Rolex recently changed case sizes either, but here are the sizes that I am aware of: Air-King - 34mm Explorer I - 36mm Submariner - 40mm How about the Milgauss? Did they have one in stock? That might be an option.

Also, for reference, here is a shot of a genuine movement and dial to show the similarites of the holder. not the greatest picture, but the closest I could find to a profile shot of a genuine movement and dial. here is the shot of dial and holder for comparison: thanks for looking!

Yes, for a fraction of the price, you can have a very high quality franken with the use of the 2892-A2 movement. Here is a review of the 2892-A2. Some of you may have already read it. It is interesting that the author states the 2892-A2 can go toe to toe with the Rolex 3035 and 3135. But the 2892-A2 is about 1/8 the cost of a 3135. Review of ETA 2892-A2

I thought I would share some pictures of this custom-made movement holder to retro-fit an ETA 2892-A2 movement into a genuine Rolex 3135 case. I have been thinking about and working on this project for a while. And thanks to another member who motivated me to get it done, here are the results. The holder is CNC milled out of brass to exact 2892-A2 casing specs and measurements from a Rolex 3135 movement. The holder seats the movement perfectly in the Rolex case with perfect stem alignment. Here is a picture of the movement fitted in a genuine Rolex 16200 case Here are some profile pictures of the 16200 case to show the perfect stem alignment. Here are some shots of the movement with holder and dial installed. Note the precise milled steps on the holder, which perfectly match the grooves in the Rolex case for an exact fit. Here is shot of the top of the movement with holder installed. Notice the lip the holder creates to allow for a genuine Rolex date disc to be used as an overlay. The lip raises the dial from the 2892-A2 dial seat allowing clearance for the thicker genuine disc. Here is a shot with the Rolex Date Disc installed. Notice how it still sits below the lip of the holder. When the dial is installed, the extra clearance allows the genuine disc room to advance freely. And seeing as the holder is milled to exact 3135 specs. It can also be used in a 15200 case. I have a few extra, so if anyone is interested, fire me a PM. Unfortunately, custom milling work like this is not cheap. Please note: This holder is made for use in a genuine Rolex case that takes a 3135 movement only! It has also been built to the ETA 2892-A2 specs, so I don

Thanks for that link. $195 for the service. Seems like a reasonable price. I was thinking of getting a case done.

I'm sure they have an "in-house" warranty. But this is a modified watch, and Rolex is quite strict with their policies.

Check this out! I'm sure you have already seen this. But I heard a rumor that Rolex may introduce some PVD models this year, so I googled and found this. All yours for $19500.00. I just wonder if Rolex would service it? Click HERE for the story!

I hope I'm not out of line in replying. I watched this item as well. It ended at $187.50

yes, sorry, my post is biased. I guess I shouldn't judge the bergeon so harsh, since I only have one screwdriver and not a whole set. But one thing is for certain, the blade quality of the Bergeon driver is very poor. If you already have a Bergeon set, or can find a set a a great price, by all means grab a set. Just use Horotec blades.
-
Well, I'm so impressed with the Horotec screwdriver set I received the other day, I figured I would post a mini review for those considering purchasing a set of screwdrivers. First and foremost: The blades. Examination of the horotec blades show they are very well made and finished. I played around with them on an old movement to get the feel for them. I am very impressed with how they fit the screwheads! Overjoyed actually. Wow, what a difference. They are also very durable. They worked with tight screws with no problem. No cracking, no slipping. Unlike the Bergeon which damaged very easily. I would rate the inexpensive French blades higher than the Bergeon. The inexpensive French I have been using for a few years. They hold up very well. I only have the one Bergeon, and used it a few times. The tip as already damaged. Horotec, I only used a few times, but I can already tell the difference in quality Here is a picture for comparison. Inexpensive French - Bergeon - Horotec The ends. Horotec wins hands down! The ball bearing ends turn smoothly with no effort. They fit my hand very well. Next up, Inexpensive French. They turn smoothly as well, but overall they are too short for me. Finally, Bergeon. The end is stiff and does not turn very well. Very poor design. If the inexpensive French were longer, I would most likely keep using them. (Actually, now that I've tried the Horotec, there is no going back!!!) See, they inexpensive French are short. And if we just want to talk about looks... Horotech wins without a doubt. If I can say this without sounding like a freak, "Those Horotec are damn sexy!" Even the Inexpensive French screwdrivers beat out Bergeron. Those anodized ends put the bergeon to shame. And just a side note. I really wanted the rotating stand, but I kinda like to look of the box on my bench. They are also easier to store and put away for the part timer.

Don't mind at all.... www.bostonwatchexchange.com I think I may have bought the last set as I don't see them listed anymore. They were on sale so I'm guessing they were on clearance. $49.95 + $15 to ship to Canada. I wanted a set on the rotating stand, but for that price, I could not pass. The SLP was $119.99. Ofrei has them for $98, so I think I found a good deal.
-
I ended up buying the same set. I've been looking around, and found a set for $65/ including shipping. I haven't used them yet, but they sure do feel nice. I like the ball bearing top as well.

I was quoted $600 from one of my sources for a replica 1016 case. That is a bargain compared to the website prices, but still too much money.

0.25mm second hand on 0.22mm pin movement?
stilty replied to sub1965's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
Yes, anything is possible. You will either have to gently pinch the tube of the sweep hand so it can grab the fourth wheel, or use a very small amount of glue to hold the hand in place. The second method is not really a good idea as there is a risk of getting glue in places where there shouldn't be glue. -
I don't know, but if I had to take a guess, perhaps one is a factory code or batch code, and the other a date code. Just to aid in recall if necessary, inventory, etc. Anyone else? This sounds like a question for jimmythree to answer.

Yes, otherwise you will get a sore back, strained neck, etc. Bring the work area to your eye level. If I remember correctly, the typical watchmaker bench is 39". An easy fix is to make your own shelf, or box, or set of drawers, etc, and place on top of your current desk. Then place your bench mat on that. You can rest your elbows on your desktop, and work with your hands on the shelf. Ikea has an inexpensive solution. See below: I think it is 8" high. It is wide and deep enough to fit a bench mat. Then this brings your work area to your eye level when sitting. And you can use it for storage as well. The best thing part is that it is not permanent. If you are only using your desk area part time, then this works great because when you are not tinkering on watches, you just pick it up a move it out of the way. Store all your tools, etc, in one unit. Also, make sure you get a decent lamp. Proper lighting makes all the difference. Benchmat on top of Ikea FIRA STORAGE BOX equals

Hey Chief, Nothing beats a loupe. I have a visor that I use as well. There is an extra magnifier you can attach to the visor to bring it up to 6X (I think) I'm not near my stuff now. 3.5X on the visor, plus 2.5X attachement. The only problem I have with the visor, is I find it gets in the way when you are working in close. Especially when trying to work with the extra magnifier. You have to get in close for it to focus, then the whole thing gets in the way. You can't get a tool in close with the bulky visor. At least with the loupe, it isn't that big and cumbersome. The visor is great for polishing, and doing jobs like that. It offers eye protection, as well as some magnification. But for any work that involves close inspection or work, the only thing that works for me is the loupe.

New Yacht-Master II replica supposedly has working count-down chrono
stilty replied to Corgi's topic in The Rolex Area
I agree with you 100%. I've stated it before, and I'll state it again. This goes far beyond the aesthetic appeal. My respect for this is in the engineering and development that went into the movement. Ugly or not, it is the movement that does it for me. They finally released a true Yachtmaster that has some function. -
