  1. Stan (tudorman) is selling one on eBay and that is why there is such a discussion. There is no way he would sell a rep, unless he was fooled into thinking it was gen. So unless he comes out and says it is fake, then the jury is still out for me.
  2. yes, I've been following that battle over there. Seems to be a lot of "experts" over there that are taking a stand and are not willing to budge either way. One member is dead certain that Stan's bracelets is a fake, and another is dead certain that Stan's is legit. My bracelet is identical to Stan's... so the jury is still out for me. Unless Stan comes out and says his is a fake, then that is when I will know for sure. I've shown mine to a collector and was told it was genuine. But who really knows??? Apparently, even the experts can be fooled. All I know is it wasn't cheap, but it wasn't $1K either. If it is in fact proven to be a fake, I will talk with my seller and see if I can get a rebate of some sort, but I doubt that is likely. I won't be returning it as it is a nice bracelet either way.
  3. You sure your dial is genuine, or for the 2892? Pretty much all the dial feet positions are the same for ETA movements. Here is the layout:
  4. you can buy all the parts you need for the date disc and install them on the 2893-3. The base movement is the same.
  5. set up an account with julesborel.com. you can do it online. and then you can search for the part online. the part is listed, but it shows no price, so I'm sure it is special order part. where did you find the 2893-1?
  6. Now that I look at it again... you may be on to something. It "could" be as easy as just swapping the Universal hour Indicator disc from the 2893-1 with the 24Hrs Hour wheel fromt the 2893-2. Everything looks the same with the exception of those two parts.
  7. A quick look at the ETA technical sheets tells me probably not. One would have to have a 2893-1 in hand, and order the necessary parts for the 2893-2 to see if they can be swapped to know for sure. The cost of parts and labour would probably not make sense, unless of course you got the 2893-1 at a smokin' deal.
  8. Didn't know where to post this, so figured I would post it here. This is the coolest looking automatic winding rotor I have seen! A nice match to the dial. The watch is made by Finnish watchmaker Stepan Sarpaneva and soon to be unveiled at Baselworld. Case, dial, date disc, hands, crown, and rotor all made of stainless steel. Looks pretty cool to me! Sarpaneva Prototype
  9. $13.00 is a lot for a set of Aftermarket springbars. you can get them from Jules Borel for $2.00 each, or $1.60 each if you buy 3 or more. But.... unless you are ordering other parts, it might be cheaper to buy those on eBay. It all depends on what JB will charge you for shipping.
  10. bare hands on the movement! Let's hope those are pre-cleaning/ service photos. Finger cots are a must once the movement has been cleaned and serviced.
  11. Haha, thanks Freddy. Yes I'm sure I will. I see you did not remove any links on your folded. all 13 are there. Maybe I'll just leave mine the way it is and shorten up the fine adjustment. I only wanted to remove a link from the 6 side to center the buckle.
  12. nice post and great collection. I think I'm going to have to build myself one of those.
  13. Hey UB7 and Manuel. Please see my original franken post for details and photos. Link in topic #1 of this post. The case is a genuine Rolex 16234. Modern DJ. Why this case? It was the closest I could find to a 1016. The caseback gasket setup is the same, whereas the vintage DJ had a different system than the 1016. The depth rating is 100m on the 16234, same as the 1016, but the vintage DJs were only rated to 50m. Also, the Tropic 22 fits the modern DJ case. The only real difference is the crown and tube. They are all 6mm crowns, but the tube on the 16234 is 5.3 as opposed to the 6mm tubes of the vintage models. You can only tell the difference by unscrewing the crown and I bet 90% of the people wouldn't know the difference unless I told them. Also, the majority of vintage DJ cases I have seen have been overpolished and I would not be able to have the lug holes drilled. I spent a lot of time researching this, and feel this is the closest I am going to get to a gen without dropping $5-7K. Here is the gen 1016 back: This is a 16014 back: Here is a 1601 back: And here is a 16234 case back
  14. That is a beauty Freddy! One day.... one day... I'll get one. I was fortunate to hold a gen in my hand about a month ago. fantastic watch. Haven't experienced the hair pull yet as I have yet to wear it. I need to take it in (the bracelet) and have a link removed. Something I don't want to attempt myself. I got a smokin' deal on the bracelet, but it still wasn't cheap and I don't want to mess it up.
  15. Could be another case of a gen dial blank that has been repainted. The brass plate may be genuine, but it has been repainted.
  16. Look forward to seeing the results. For the CG's. According to an expert ebay seller, shouldn't they be pointed? Here are a couple pics.
  17. Thanks everyone. Yes Pete, Once I get around to getting a link removed I'll let you know. T
  18. Just received this NOS 7836 folded link bracelet and installed it on my franken 1016. I've been looking for the proper vintage bracelet for the project and I think itt is now complete. The dial is a 60's version, so I needed the vintage bracelet. It is not as heavy or chunky as the 78360 w/580s I had installed, but I think it suits the project a lot better. Original Franken 1016 post here. I will have to remove one link on the 6 side, but will probably leave that to an AD with the proper tools. Here are a few pics. Enjoy. thanks for looking.
  19. Sorry to hear the bad news in regards to your purchase. As far as how easy it is to find us. I have mentioned this a few times as I do not like it. There was talk that we would be blocked from Google searches, but seeing all the Google ads on this site, I'm wondering if it will ever happen. Perhaps there is some form of revenue sharing being associated with Google. Just a thought.
  20. It would be a disaster to part it out!
  21. Hey Mezz, sent you a PM. I'll be in tomorrow afternoon and if time and scheduling permits, I'd be happy to look at both bracelets for you. I'm sure they are gen., but I can give you my best opinion.
  22. If I am not mistaken, the gasket between the tube and case is a silver metal gasket. At least on the DJ tubes it is. If you do not have this part, you can always use a tiny amount of non hardening gasket sealer. Liquid gasket, etc. You only need a tiny amount and be careful as it can spiderweb and leave a mess in your case.
  23. I have two 78350 bracelets. One buckle looks identical to your buckle, and the other looks different. Both from a reliable source, so I'm not worried if they are gen or not. I also have two 78360 bracelets, and they both are different than yours. One is a new 78360 and the other is a vintage on my 1016. Tough call, but I would pretty much have to say yours is a gen. Are you able to stop into Rolex Canada and have them verify? I think they are up in Bloor-Yorkville area.
  24. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
  25. My guess is, the brass should be starting to show on the coin edge bezel. They were just plated brass and for a watch that old, there should be signs of wear. btw.. I really love those bezels.
