I've ordered the disc as well and am just waiting for it too. I wish I had read your post sooner as I would have rather just chipped in on your copy. (as I'm sure it is just a copy of the original) But if anyone is interested in cost sharing mine, I'm open to offers as well! (sorry, not trying to hijack)

Crown size, Stem and case tube to get for ETA DateJust Rep
stilty replied to nate moore's topic in The Rolex Area
Also, before you proceed with removing the rep tube and crown. Consider the fact that the chances of damaging the rep tube is almost 100%. They are cheap and will probably crack when trying to get it out. I personally don't think it is worth the risk to see if a gen tube "might" fit. If a gen tube does not fit, and you damaged the rep tube you will have a watch that you won't be able to wear. If you are totally convinced that this is something you want to do, you should contact your seller Josh and see if you can get a replacement tube first. Good Luck! -
If it is a complete case, that is a fair price.
-
if it is indeed genuine, that is a great deal. It also depends if it is complete or not. If only midcase, you should still grab it, but it may take a while to find the rest of the parts. Tropic 22 are easy to find. And aftermarket even easier. Bezel, I can help you out there. Caseback, probably just as rare as the mid case and it may take you a while to find one if not included.

I've just recently started as I've been noticing my ears ringing more and more, and not just from concerts. Someone told me that the ringing that you hear in your ears is the actual frequency that is soon to be lost. Kind of a last scream as you will never hear that frequency again. I don't know how true that is, but it sure as hell got me wearing plugs.

You've seen some good shows! I missed MMJ, they played a small club and I didn't go... bummer. Would like to see them. Wilco is always a great show as are the Lips! I've met a fair amount of artists and partied with a few, and I definately do not get out as much as I used to. And hearing protection is always a must now. Gotta save what hearing I have left!
-
No, they were a bit ahead of my time. I was only 10 when Bonham died and when they last toured. I did see Jimmy Page in a bar though, he wasn't playing, just hanging out. Hopefully if Robert turns around, they will tour after their one off show.

So my buddy and I were going over the list of shows that we have attended over the years. He made up a list, and I made up a list as well. I'm sure I've forgotten a few in a drunken stupor. Some of these acts I've seen on numerous occasions, either they were opening for another act, headlining, or at a festival. I've seen some great shows over the years. Many of my favorites have been in small clubs. I remember seeing The Strokes play a small club with only about 90 people in the room.... then seeing them again at Radio City Music Hall. Anyway, here is the list. Not me. I would have to be saving a lot of money, and I mean a lot of money, to even bother driving across the line! As it is now on any normal weekend, waits at the border crossing can be 2, 3, even 4 hours each way! Add another 50 minute drive from downtown Vancouver, No thanks. But that isn't stopping a few people I know. They are probably waiting at the border now as most outlets are opening at midnight to start their sales. Oh yeah, be careful mentioning the strong Canadian dollar. It seems to offend some of our American members!

True enough, I guess investment wasn't the right word. Appreciation would be a better term! But if you did want to do the math. Even if you were to sell it on the low end at $6k. That would still be a $1500 profit on the inflated dollar value of $4500. Or you could bring that $6K down to 1967 value. 6000 x .17 = $1020.00 $1020-$750=$270 profit 270/750 =0.36 that isn't too bad of a return. yes, too much time to kill.

Just browsing around, looking on the 'bay. I came across this 1016 that is being offered. Item 290184004174 What caught my attention was the price tag still on the box. $750.00. So I googled an inflation calculator to check on the value of the dollar in 1967 vs today. (yeah, it is a slow day at the office! ) The buying power of $1 dollar in 1967 equalled the buying power of $6.03 today. So today, that watch would cost new $4522.50. Considering the 1016 is selling $6K+, there is some serious appreciation in the 1016 over the years.

Today I filled up and it was 104.4 litre for regular. Premium was 114.4. My owners manual, as well as the sticker on my fuel cover say my motor requires premium fuel, so I fill up with the pricey stuff. Fortunately, I am required to have a vehicle for my gig, so I can expense my fuel, but we have recently been restricted to no-Friday fill up. I guess too many were filling up for the weekend, then filling up again on Monday. I usually only go through a tank a week, and rarely drive on the weekends. and yes nanuq, you can't really lose by investing in energy right now! Canada is booming in the energy sector, especially with the oil sands.

I guarantee that you will have stem alignment issues. Those that have posted previous replies on this tread have tried it and we know from experience that it will not work. You asked the question, and experienced members have responded. If you want to use the 2836-2, buy a vintage DJ case. A 16014 would be a very nice franken to build. Those vintage DJs are a classy watch. As members have mentioned in previous replies, the 2836-2 will only work in the 160XX series cases that take 3035 c. movements.
-
If you strip off the day/date discs and transplant the minute train bridge from a 2824-2, the stem alignment is pretty close for the 16200 case. But then you have no date function for the datejust case. But something to consider if you are building an air-king or explorer I. The only movements that will work with date function in the 16200 case is the 2824-2 and 2892 series. (2892-2. 2892-a2, etc. or the 12892 which I have been using lately) Also, TTK's DJs are replicas that is why they take 2836-2. They have been designed and manufactured for the 2836-2 specifically. They are nothing like the gen case at all.
-
I made my own little tool for this: I took a pin, bent the tip to create a small hook. Follow the above steps as The Zigmeister stated. But with the small hook, you can hold the spring back with one hand while carefully lining up and installing the date disc with your other hand. Again, hard to explain and visualize, but if you are already as far along in the process as it sounds, you should be able to figure out what I mean.

So is that piece really a collectors item? I had that exact watch 6 years ago. With the small markers in full 18K and blue bezel and dial. I sold it on eBay for $5200. It took a couple of attempts, but someone finally bought it. Didn't really seem that hot of a watch back then as it really took a while to sell it. Mine was a more beat up, but I did not want to polish it, but rather keep it in it's state when I sold it. I'll try and find some pictures of it and post them, but that was about 3 computers ago and they may be long gone off the hard drive. Hopefully I still have them on a disc somewhere.

Don't give up so easily. Maybe just walk away for a bit. I've been modding for years... and I actually took a break for a couple years, and one day when I moved to our new house, I found my box of parts, and have been back at it. Sometimes the best way to learn is by trial. Do you know how many date overlays I've burned through when I first started out? Gummed them up with glue, scratched the numbers, etc. I'm looking at 5 right now, and who knows how many I've thrown away. And don't get me started with hand sets! Good God!, do you know how many sets I've damaged by picking them up with my fingers? Then trying to wipe off the fingerprints, and then I wind up scratching the hell out of them? Or ask me about the time I tried to remove a speck from a dial with an eraser and left a nasty smudge mark. I've screwed up probably more than anyone, but I sure learned a lot along the way. I've screwed up a few movements, but they are great for practice and tinkering. Good news is, you will have some parts for test fittings etc. I've learned to use old parts if I am trying something new. And if it works, then I transfer that knowledge to my project and use it on my final project.

exactly! if you really want something, then go get it. there is really nothing holding you back but yourself. I don't care what anyone says, if you really want it, and truly believe deep down that you can get it, then go for it. Positive thinking may not always work, but negative thinking always does!

I third that motion. they are the same seller. I believe the open fonts are gone as well. I haven't seen one from them in a long time.
-
Awesome! That is exactly what I need to know. Thanks for that info!

oops. missed the 1 in my typing. It is 1.18mm. I got it from a Rolex dealer. I guess I will just have to order a spring bar to find out, or check to see if my local dealer has any. I'm waiting on a 7836 with 258 endlinks. I think that is for 2mm springbar. I'm sure 1.8 will work, but may be loose. I would rather have it nice and tight. I wonder if I will have to drill the lugs to fit the 23-9293. That is my concern.
-
Thanks Nico, I measured two sets of springbars. for sub, 2mm with 1.8mm pin dj, 1.79mm with .89mm pin. I'm wondering what springbar size is for vintage explorer. different part number than either, so must be different size. I just want to make sure I have proper endlinks with bracelet and case.

Looking for some info on some Rolex Springbars for vintage project. Does anyone know the size of this springbar? rolex 23-9293 This would be for the 1016, Orange hand explorer. I believe it is 2mm. What would the lug holes size be? Is it the same as a Sub springbar? 23-9291? That is 2mm with large lug hole I've also got a datejust springbar. 23-9290 and that is 1.8mm and small lug hole Is the 23-9293 a cross between the small datejust and submariner springbar? thanks.
