Please reccmmend a watch winder (just got my B&R from King)
stilty replied to KEVN97A4's topic in Other Brands Area
Personally I don't think you really need one. The winder was designed and built if you had a complicated automatic, such as a calender, or moonphase watch that corrects itself. ie, adjusts for leap year, 28, vs, 30, vs 31 days in a month, etc. You definitely do not want to try and reset a watch like that, very time consuming and complicated. So the winder was invented to keep it wound. If you just have a basic auto, just wind it and set the date when you want to wear it. Unless your watch is non-quickset, then I wouldn't bother. -
I think there are 5 different dial styles for the 16520. check doubleredseadweller.com, they should have a listing.

for the 24-603-0, you need a 5.3mm tube. If I remember correctly, part number is 24-5300. You can get some good quality aftermarket from Gary Clark, at clark watch parts on ebay.

Show Us Your Lume Shots using UV / Black Light

Ahhhh! Well, I didn't say I don't go... just been a while. We have a great place here in Vancouver called Brandi's. Only thing is, it is the type of place you go to on the company expense account when the brass are in town, or with a client. First class all the way! Some of you may have heard of this place, as Ben Affleck made headlines in all the rags when he was spotted partying there. He was there with Christian Slater and I think Tara Reid. I guess J.Lo was not too happy about it at the time. -
And if the kangaroo incident isn't sick enough... Read what this sick bastard did to a 12 year old boy's puppy. This bastard should not be allowed to own a firearm. Period. So irresponsible and cruel. Shot fells young cancer victim's beloved puppy

This might be a bit of a moot point or maybe not. But did you adjust the beat rate to 28.8 from 36.0 as Rolex does? I wonder how much work and trouble that would be? I'm thinking it would be a real pain to do. How do you find the power reserve? I know on my 2846 hybrid, I get about 56 hours on a full wind. (21.6) and my 2892-A2's are around 42 hours (28.8 ) I'm guessing the high beat 36.0 would have a shorter PR. I bet that little sweep hand is pretty smooth ticking at 10x's per second though!

I haven't been to a strip bar lately, so it's been a while since I've seen lume under those lights! One thing I can say... is nothing screams fake more than the crappy rep lume while under UV. Especially in the company of a gen. Hands are different shades then dial, some lume glows purple, some green, or a mix of both. I remember I picked up a cheap 5517 and wore it out once, the hands were orange under the UV. -
Love the crown! Nice job.

oh man... every time I see those it makes me really want to build one! All, gen with the zenith movement like yours. I'm tempted to sell my franken collection, well, maybe not my 1016, to pursue one of these!

A few pics of my very first vintage Franken project
stilty replied to stilty's topic in The Rolex Area
The springbars pictured in this post are actually Sub springbars as that was all I had at the time. They have later been swapped out with the proper length 2mm springbars that are slightly recessed in the lug holes. If you have a OP Date, the springbars are only 1.80mm. If you want to use the bigger springbars, you would have to drill out the lug holes. -
love the new pics! especially the movement pics!
-
Okay, here is one... I built it, never wear it, tried it on once.... 34mm OP Date I just pull it out and look at it from time to time. I really love this dial combo with the honey croc strap.

Here is the past auction for the date disc. 360077323027 This would have been ideal to use. It would definately require some modding. remove driving gear, cut out the center, and sand the back so it is thin enough to use as an overly. But would it ever add to the watch! Date progression is the same as ETA as well! calibre: 1225
-
Hey Freddy, Late to post a comment... but what a beauty! I did see a gen Rolex roulette date disc on ebay a while back. I was snipped, otherwise I would have it. It was open font, with the proper date progression for eta. That would have been ideal for your project. in regards to your hands... how about trying to mod your cannon pinion, hour wheel and 24h wheel first... those parts are easier to replace than a hand set. The only wheel that might be hard to get is the rep 24H wheel, but maybe not. I'm sure there are plenty of dead soldiers out there where you could get a donor part from.

As Ubi stated, they are all easy to source. They are just getting expensive. As far as the grades, Those are only available from ETA if you are buying 500+, then you can order what ever grade you want, with what ever finish you want. You can get lucky sometimes if you buy bulk or surplus movements from a supply house. But if you are just buying a single, new, sealed movement from ETA, you will only get Standard.

Yes, now that you mention it, Trusty's is fitted with a 2836-2, so the beat rate is wrong, and also the case will not be a true 1:1. The gen is fitted with a 1570, minus the date module, making it a thinner movement. So if the case was a true 1:1, you would not be able to fit a thicker 2836-2. Small details and probably won't make that much of a difference to most. For $218, probably not a bad rep. Here's a link to the 1016 I built. Franken 1016 The bracelet was later replaced with a folded 7836 which is more accurate for the dial.
-
Yes, I've built one. The gen 1016 case is impossible to find. I went with a genuine 16200 case. The tropic 22 fits no problem, but the smooth bezel needs a bit of modification. Also, the lug holes need to be drilled for 2mm springbars. I went with the 16200 case as it was as close to a gen 1016 as I could get. The caseback gasket is the same set up. 16000 and 1601 casebacks are different. The one difference is the crown. They are both 6mm crowns, but the 16200 tube is a 5.3mm and the 1016 is 6mm. You can only tell the difference when the crown is out. For a movement, a had to create a hybrid. I wanted a slow beat to simulate the 1570 and the 2846 is too thick to fit the 16200 case, so a hybrid was built. A thinner mainplate from a 2801 fitted with the 2846 balance set up. Hands and dial were rep. relumed by The Zigmeister. Bracelet was a folded 7836. Not cheap, but I wanted it to be as authentic as possible. I'd love to see the rep 1016 case though.

Nice job. I got a little misty looking at the project. It's like one of my offspring out there! haha. There are a few of those movement holders out there, and I've only seen a couple of the finished goods. Good job and I'm glad it worked out for you! I'd love to see other finished projects with the "stilty" holder.

Hey T, I hope for the best with your kids! I'm sure you'll be back. Just do what you got to do. I was quite involved and had about a 4 year break... a complete break from everything. I was surprised my login and password were still active at TRC. It was great chatting and thanks for your help in things. All the best.

I've seen a few and they are nice. Most of our stuff is mid-century modern. But now that we have two under two (kids) we are finding Ikea is now the way to go. Cheap disposable furniture for them to grow out of.
-
Right you are Ubi. I was thinking of the mid-size models... the midsize that uses 2235 has dial feet. While midsize that use 2135 are pressure fit. I'm pretty sure that all ladies models do not have dial feet. Only pressure fit to movement.
-
If I'm not mistaken, the 2235 calibre models may have dial feet. 2035 and 2135 do not. They have a lip around the dial and are pressure fit to the movement.

I found this child's size Eames style rocker today! I couldn't resist and had to buy it for my daughter. I'm not too hot on the color, but I still think it is pretty cool! My daughter isn't too keen on it yet, but the dog sure likes it! He hopped in right away. I'm a bit of a sucker for chairs, and have a nice Herman Miller Aeron that I use at the bench! The most comfortable office chair around! One day I'll have to get the Lounge Chair.

A few years back, I picked up a watch on eBay for $5.00 + $5.00 shipping. It was a bit beat up, no strap, missing the crown. I only wanted it to salvage some parts as I figured the movement was toast. Inside was a 2846, looking very clean and in great shape. I replaced the stem, wound it up and it was fine. It is still running strong today. I guess it is the luck of the draw. I also bought a Raymond Weil watch to salvage the 2892-A2, it was running, but not running well, even after a service and cleaning.

Well, depending on what watch I'm wearing and the lume, I'm prone to sticking it under the lamp while I brush my teeth, so I have a full charge before bed.
