  1. 2678 is a 7.75''' movement. Quite small actually, only 17mm diameter. I wonder if that is a typo.

mmmmm.... lunchtime. I could go for a bowl of pho tai
  3. Okay, I had my doubts that Obama would win.... only because I was unsure of an "honest" election. But I just chatted with a buddy, and he said the new voting system looks pretty good. His ballot was checked for errors before being accepted. He did say it took him about an hour to vote. Some new color codes system where you are split up into precincts. They way he put it... green "poor", orange "middle classs", yellow "rich". He said there was no one in the green line up, as they were probably all at work, middle class was busy, and the rich line up was outrageous! He said it looked like an easy 2 hour wait. He also told me he has never seen so many people turn out to vote before. If there will be an "honest" election. Obama will win. Any vote tampering, lost ballots, etc. He won't have a chance. btw. my vote was sent in the mail as I'm an abesntee voter.
  4. I ususally just use a new stem, but I have a bunch on hand. You will most likely have to heat up the crown to loosen the epoxy or thread-lok. Hold the stem in a pin vise, heat it up, then remove the crown. We gloves or something to protect your fingers as the crown will be hot. Or, just use a new stem in the crown. You will need to trim it down. Just be careful not to cut it too short. A small drop of thread-lok will keep it from coming loose.
  5. nice write up. interesting where they position the case clamps. @kbh: 116200 is a smooth stainless bezel. The last two digits in the case number are coded. 0=smooth and 0=stainless. WG code number is 4
  6. Seeing as this is the loony bin, and as loony as this sounds. McCain will win tomorrow. Voters will be turned away, ballots will be destroyed, etc. Obama doesn't have a chance. But if Obama does win by some miracle. I fear he will be taken out by some nutjob. In the meantime, fellow Canadians, please see this link and watch out. We're doomed! http://link.brightcove.com/services/player...ctid=1842856410
  7. Is that seller Sean? Same pics from his site.
  8. According to the rules they are. 5 innings in the book, is considered a complete game. Now I'm not really cheering for either team. I was expecting more from the Rays, but they forgot their bats at home... or is just the Phillie pitching that good? Anyway, why suspend the game after they tie? Why not suspend it when it is looking like a Canadian blizzard outside? Were the hoping someone would get injured? Maybe a a career ending injury? If the Rays do comeback from the 3-1 deficit, if I'm in the Phillies organization, I'd be raising some serious questions. Do they think it makes for better TV? Who is watching this anyway? A secondary market that no one really cares about anyway? They can't even sell out at home. Does it make for better TV? No, it just makes me wonder how out of touch the heads of MLB are. just my morning rant.
  9. The movements are identical with the exception of two parts. 1.) The fitted enlargement ring on the 2834-2 to support the Day disc. This is just a plastic ring that attaches to the mainplate and brings the diameter out to 29mm from 25.6mm. 2.) The date discs are different. The 2834-2 date disc sits lower on the movement. It is 0.43mm thick when measured with the calipers. This is so it can operate below the Day disc witout interference. The date disc on the 2836-2 is 0.63mm thick and it sits flush with the day disc. **Franken building tip** When using a 2892-A2, swap a 2834-2 disc for the 2892-A2 disc. Sand down the top to bring the thickness down to 0.40mm. Glue your genuine Rolex disc to this and you will have flawless trouble free date function in your franken. The 2892-A2 disc sits slightly recessed in the mainplate and you run the risk of the glued on date disc rubbing on the movement. If you swap to the taller 2834-2 disc, it give a slight clearance over the movement so the disc does not rub.
  10. If you golf, excellent treks in both Maui and Vegas. Not cheap though. When I played Kapalua, it was $295 to get on the Plantation.
  11. Welcome back and nice post. Don't give up on the certification yet! There is a WOSTEP certified school in Seattle. A bit cheaper and closer to home. Same curriculum and your exams are overseen by WOSTEP instructors from Switzerland. I think the pay is better in North America, where you could get a job with a chain for around 50K. Go independent and you could make more. Look how busy you are now. You have a great reputation, once certified, you can build on that. The same amount of work and effort goes into servicing a Rolex as to what you are doing now, you can just charge 3 to 4 times more. Service a rep for $200 or service a gen for $600. The market is growing with high end mechanical watches, yet the amount of qualified watchmakers is shrinking every year. Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but I still think it could be a great career move if one was serious.
  12. Yes, I should have been more clear when I mentioned the opening of attachments. I guess it may depend on what BB you may have. When my co-worker opens the same attachment, it is barely legible. when I open on the iphone, it is very similar to the original file. Easy to zoom in to view as well with the stretch function of the touch screen. If you want to zoom in on something, all you do is put you thumb and finger on the screen, spread your finger and thumb apart and it zooms in. same with pictures, and google maps, google maps in either street, satelite or hybrid. I have 4 email accounts on my phone. My work email, then a couple gmail accounts, and a mac.com account. With my work and my mac.com email, it arrives on the phone a few seconds before it arrives to my computer, so it is quicker than instant. Only thing I don't like is the contacts. I can only have my outlook contacts, or my address book accounts from my mac, not both. No messenger, but I rarely use it. If I do, it is only when I'm out of town, or my wife is out of town, and we use iChat with our macs with iSight so we can see each other and the kids. I think the touch screen is the coolest thing. you just have to slide your finger across the screen to scroll, as slow or fast as you want. you just touch the icon to open, and the zoom function is great! if you are looking at photos, you just swipe your finger across the screen to flip through the album. I've also loaded some movie files to the phone. I've made some home movies that I shot in HD of my kids, they look and play great on the phone. shot in widescreen and they look beautiful on the screen. visual voicemail is cool too. So you don't have to dial in the VM service and listen through messages you may not want to hear. you can scroll through and pick what message you want to hear, just like opening an email. There are tons of apps, but I don't want to clog up my phone. I only have Shazam, which if fun for music. Say you are at a party, or restaurant, or club, and you want to know what song is playing, you just open the app, it samples a few seconds of the song, and bingo, it displays the artist and song, and points you to the itunes store to buy, or you can watch the music video on youtube if it is available. If you are curious about the touch screen, I recommend you stopping by a store to check it out, hands on is way better than any way I could describe.
  13. Yes, Push is with the 3G. And another bonus is opening attachments. Excel, Word, PDFs all open and are easy to read.... as well as .WAV files from the VM system. just click on the attachment and they open. GPS and google maps are great too. I like being able to do a google search for something, and watch the pinpoints pop up on the map, then easily click for directions! I do miss video recording and bluetooth, but I mainly used BT to transfer ringtones and pics. I can email the pics, and create my own ringtones in iTunes with no problem there. Typing takes a while to get used to, but once you do, it is no problem. The touch screen is great for scrolling! Especially through photos!
  14. Wow! That is impressive. I love this line: In a perfect world, the next quote you'd hear from the following buffoons would be, "You want fries with that?"
  15. I agree. There is nothing that can compete with Rolex steel. This Franken is all Rolex 904L. Gen dial with WG markers. I still have to figure out a way to install gen hands.
  16. Nicely put. So as far as the afterlife consequence. Do you think there is a God or supreme being that will judge and decide if you are to go to heaven or hell? Or... do you think that our fate in the afterlife is in our own hands? What I mean by that is, some people do live in "hell on earth" with regret, remorse for their actions and fear of retaliation, always looking over their sholder in fear. That is hell in itself. So when it comes time to check in, or out, however you want to look at it... will we be our own judge? They say your life passes before your eyes when you die. So with this replay, you get to see everything you did in your life... good and bad, nothing is hidden, you see it all. And at that point, you either will spend your time in the afterlife in regret and remorse (hell), or with a sense of accomplishment for a life well lived.
  17. You are probably correct. With the transition from 3035 to 3135. But.... I did see a 3135 disc on eBay a while back that was open fonts, with very noticable serifs. I bid on it, but was sniped. So there must have been a transitional disc as well.
  18. I do the same... And when the conversation takes a turn on what went into the build, the technical stuff usually goes over most people's head. Every once in a while, someone asks my wife about her watch, and she takes great pride in telling them, "my husband built it for me!"
  19. Why not check the pawn shops for gens! Isn't Macau the Asian equivilent of Vegas? I'm sure there are some nice gens pawned off to feed the addiction.
  20. I agree with this statement. Genuine parts are a must, especially when it comes to the dial. Simply adding genuine parts to a rep does not qualify as "franken", but rather "modified". The rep is already a living breathing watch, so to speak, and just adding parts to a living breathing watch is just upgrading or modifying. A true Franken is a watch that has been brought to life from lifeless parts. I still get a kick when I finally case a movement in a project, give it a wind, and see the sweep second begin to move!
  21. Interesting reading material. Just stick with Clarks. He is very friendly, won't scam you, and there really isn't anything wrong with his crystals or gaskets.
  22. Yeah, never thought of that. My accounts are limited to $1500 daily each. I can only take out $800 at one time. So if I want the full amount, I have to do it in two transactions.
  23. Well, we played phone tag the rep at the AD, so I take that as a sign. I did speak with another sales rep and asked about the SD, and was told there is no chance of getting one as they are discontinued and sold out. Besides, I hear ING is in trouble, so I pulled out my rainy day savings from them today. I don't know if ING is in the US, but I know here in Canada, they offer an ISA that is convenient and I know a lot of people that hold their money with them.
  24. Hey Freddy, I'm pretty sure this guy knows what he is talking about. Just a hunch.
