  1. Nice score! I hope it works out for you! Good luck with the overhaul
  2. If you do not want to sand the thicker gen date disc. Your other option is to use an ETA 2824-2 instead of the ETA 2836-2. The 2824-2 is 0.40mm thinner on the top end vs. the 2836-2. This will give you 0.40mm of clearance between the dial and movement mainplate. The genuine disc is 0.18mm thick, so there is plenty of room. You will need a 0.40mm spacer between the dial and 2824-2 though. I use one of my movement holders, as it has this spacer milled into the design and it also takes care of fitting in the case as well. Also, I recommend swapping the 2824-2 date disc for a 2834-2 date disc. The 2824-2 disc sits slightly recessed in the mainplate. The 2834-2 disc has a slight step and raises the top of the disc just above the top of the 2824-2 mainplate. Sand the top of the 2834-2 disc, then install in the 2824-2 movement and then expoxy the genuine disc to the ETA disc. The extra height of the 2834-2 disc in the 2824-2 movement allows for trouble free operation. The botton of the genuine disc does not rub on the mainplate of the movement while it still sits below the back of the dial. Oh yes, you will have to replace the hour wheel and cannon pinion on the 2824-2 to the same height as the parts on the 2836-2 in order for the hands to clear the dial.
  3. I finally had an evening free to take a look at my Euromariner. I ordered a Clark's crystal, so I figured I would see if it would fit. Very good IMOP, and I really like dealing with Gary. I pop off the bezel, insert is glued in. I guess that is why the bezel did not turn very smooth or freely. Next I remove the retaining ring and crystal. I'm left with the black rubber gasket and a thin white gasket. The white gasket is not attached to the crystal. I pop out the crystal from the retaining ring, and there is another white gasket in the retaining ring. That is what is holding the crystal in place. I remove the gasket and notice there is a small lip milled into the retaining ring to hold the gasket. Hmmm. seems like a lot of extra work to make this set up. Why not just use the one piece gasket like the gen? Anyway, I measure the retaining ring, and it is 2.95mm thick. There is a raised edge that prevents the insert from fully seating in the bezel. Before I do anything, I test fit the Clark's crystal. Perfect snug fit as gen. I decide it is best to file down the retaining ring before installing. I hand file, then sand, then lightly polish for a nice look. I only removed 0.65mm of material. Retaining ring is now 2.30mm I then install the retaining ring. Very nice fit over the Clark's crystal. Not too tight, yet it require some pressure with the press. Install the washer and click spring, snap on the bezel ring, and it turns free and smooth and feels like a gen. Unfortunately, the insert is slightly too small and does not snap in. It seats down and is slightly recessed and does not rub against the retaining ring, but does not snap in. I'm guessing that is one of the reasons it was glued. I'm waiting for a gen insert, so I'll see how that fits when it arrives. I also had Gary send me a case tube, as the rep tube looks quite poor, and there are some burrs on the inside of the tube from poor machining. I'll replace that later. Sorry, I totally dropped the ball and should have taken some pictures. I wasn't really planning on doing the mods, but once I removed the bezel, I just got right into it and had to see if the crystal would fit.
  4. Hey Freddy, I've got a spare date disc holder from a 1570 if you want to test fit it. PM me, and I can send it out if you want to try it. T
  5. No mention of the crown sitting too low vs. the gen? It doesn't matter if every part is 1:1, of even if replaced with gen parts, as long as they keep using a 2836-2, it will always be wrong. The crown position is too far back from the dial side with the 2836-2. Only way to solve it, is to build the case for a Roles 3135 or ETA 2892-A2.
  6. I've got the new Kings of Leon pumping through the Apple TV right now. What a great album. I keep finding myself replaying Sex On Fire, wicked track! Too bad they are not hitting Vancouver on their tour. check it out if you can.
  7. Congrats! I just got my US passport about a month ago. took about 6 months of tracking down the proper documents to prove my claim. I just sent in my absentee ballot this morning. Here is where you need to go to get your ballot. You better hurry. At this point I think you will need to send in a written ballot (in security envelope) with your application. All the details are on the site. http://votefromabroad.org/
  8. stem alignment is different. The 2836-2 stem sits 0.40mm further back from the dial seat (back of dial). Not worth the trouble if you want my honest opinion. you would need a spacer between the dial and movement in order to line up the stem, replace the cannon pinion, hour wheel, and the date disc, as the date disc would be sitting 0.40mm below the dial and look very odd.
  9. The only ETA movement that even comes close in comparison to a 3135 is the chronometre 2892-A2.
  10. I heard there is a 2892-A2 version expected sometime in November once the new Yachty is complete. I'm looking forward to seeing that!
  11. congrats on the gen. It is a beautiful example of a classic. And you have all the parts to go with it. How is the lume? I had one of the first luminova watches as well, and the lume was very, very poor. It would only hold a charge for a few minutes.
  12. Hey CBR, By the looks of the pics, when I did see them, I thought you were off to Baghdad to work as a security contractor. Holy crap is that some serious hardware.
  13. no kidding! they take oversize watch to a new level.
  14. I know he is more of a vintage Rollie man, but this looks to suit him as well... The Omega "Alaska Project". Limited Edition Good for temperatures from -148 to +260 http://basel.watchprosite.com/?show=nblog....5586&fi=636
  15. At the moment I'm listening to a band called Everest. They hail from L.A. Some great classic americana meets California surf. If you like the Jayhawks or Wilco, check these guys out. There's even a bit of Paul Simon in there, especially in the track called Trees. They are opening up for Neil Young here in October, so since I'm going to the show, I figured I would check them out. Everest on Myspace
  16. I'll vouch for the Paradigms. I used to have a set of Atoms and Titans and they are great speakers. Currently we are running paradigms in the wall, and in the ceiling for rears. The only exposed speaker is a Paradigm CC-270 center channel.
  17. NICE! I'm glad it finally came together, it has been a long road. That is a great photo too! I'm sure your brother will love it. And congrats to him! The 3055 disc is very, very close to the 3135, and I doubt anyone would know the difference unless they were told. Besides, it is a genuine disc, so the print quality cannot be beat.

  19. The difference in movement thickness between the two movements is not an issue. The problem is stem alignment. The measurement from dial support seat (bottom of dial) to center of stem on the 2893-2 is 2.00mm. The measurement from dial support seat (bottom of dial) to center of stem on the 6497 is 1.85mm. This is a difference of 0.15mm. Not a lot, but if you use the 2893-2, your stem will be out of alignment with the case tube and may bind or snap. Do you have to use a 2893-2? Why not a 2892-A2? The measurement on the 2892-A2 is 1.50mm. Now you have a difference of 0.15mm the other way. That is an easy fix as you can make a spacer of 0.15mm to fit between the dial and movement in order to align the stem. Your other option if you must use a 2893-2, is to sand the back of the dial so it is thinner, but then you will end up with a very thin dial... 0.40 - 0.15 = 0.25mm thick dial... probably not a good idea. Now, if you solve the stem alignment problem. what are you going to do about hands? The Hour hand size for 6497 is 2.00mm vs 1.50mm on the 2893-2, and the minute hand is 1.15mm vs 0.90.
  20. ... the ex-recored producer from EMI France, correct?
  21. Is the plate on that car from the UK? They must have been shopping in London before their show at 02. They seem to like their fashion. When I met Lars, He was wearing some Prada shoes (red stripe in the heel), and a Prada overcoat. (red stripe on the sleeve) Also, I met them seperately as well, as I later found out they do everything seperate (at least back then) Seperate buses, seperate dressing rooms, seperate interviews, seperate meet and greets, they only see each other on stage. It's interesting to see James out shopping with Rob, maybe their buddies. Hey Hambone, did you work at that Rock gallery in Lahaina?
  22. Here are some pics from the Seattle show back in March 04. We saw the Vancouver show the night before, then drove down to Seattle to see it again. No pics in Vancouver, but we managed to get a camera into the Seattle show.
  23. Check out this tuturial: Modify to 2 position Or, you can just order the part if you don't want to do the work yourself. It cost about $6.00 for the part. You need a set bridge for an ETA 2801-2. It fits 2824-2, 2836-2, 2846.
  24. Death Magnetic is the best thing they've done since Justice. Good to see them back in form. I met James a few years back. He's a very nice guy. I also met Lars. I am also looking forward to their show in December, here in Vancouver. Some of the reviews I've read from the 02 show and club shows to launch their album report that they are very hungry and have a lot to prove. I just hope they continue that energy throughout the tour.
