  1. How is the pin on the flip lock? I picked up a 93150 for cheap a while back, it was in better condition than yours as pictured, but the pin was barely hangin on and if I wore it, it was just a disaster waiting to happen. A new buckle is needed so it is no longer a bargain. In your pic, it looks like a similar problem. That pin is the only thing keeping it together. There are many subs at the bottom of the ocean due to pin failure!
  2. You can also use a genuine Rolex 162XX series case. A genuine T22 snaps on the case with a nice fit. You can use a 16200 smooth bezel, but the ID will have to be enlarged slightly to fit over the larger diameter T22. Drill the lugholes to fit the 2mm spring bars and you will have a very nice starting point. A genuine dial with fit the case as well. The 162XX series case will have a 5.3mm case tube, but you will not notice this when the crown is screwed down. You could tap the case to fit the old style 6mm tube, but really no point. also a genuine 1570 with the date module removed will fit in the case. Or you could modify a 2824-2 to be slow beat, remove the date function, and you will have a great 1016. good luck.
  3. yes it is possible, and fairly easy. I have movement holders for ETA to fit in Rolex cases. They were machined for 3035 case, and require a slight modification to the top, as the 1570 has a smaller dial seat ring, and my holders were modelled after the 3035 which has a larger diameter dial seat ring. My holders accept either 2824-2, 2836-2, and slow beat 2846. I had an ETA 2846 in my Yuki case before I installed a 1570. Also, I had one Yuki case that accepted my holder without modification. Guess it depends on what case they send you.

  5. Nice collection JJ! And rare indeed! Love those underline dials.
  6. Nice job and write up. Just curious, how is the stem alignment with the 2892-A2 in 2824-2 case? If I do my math, the difference between the 2824-2 and 2892 is 0.30mm. Any issues with binding? If so, the way to fix it would be for a 0.30mm thick spacer between the dial and rehaut to allow the movement to line up with the case tube.
  7. Best option, but probably not the cheapest, is to find a RSC dial and handset. They pop up on the bay and gen forums from time to time. Then he can swap out his original dial and handset with a lumi RSC replacement. He can retain his original parts and offer them as part of a package deal if he decides to sell down the road, or just part out the lumi set. He really can't loose if the swap is done cleanly and professionally. It just may be more than he is willing to invest.
  8. Wow! Nice job! A real beauty. You should have no problem swapping the parts from the 2836 to the 2846. They are practically identical movements with the exception of the beat rate and the hack feature. It is fairly easy to install the stop (hack) lever in the 2846 so it hacks. Just order one from your supplier (part 9433), or just remove it from the 2836. Now if you really want to get it gen-like, remove the date corrector gear and install a two position setting lever. This way you will have a two position stem and a non-quick set date! But, we all love the convenience of a quick-set date. Again, very nice job!
  9. A few other brands are already using Sellita. Oris comes to mind. The patents are expired for the ETA's, so Sellita is free to produce the identical movement. From what I understand, they are true Swiss Made movements, unlike Eta. What is interesting, is they are 26 jewel movements, while the ETA is 25. I haven't looked into it any further as the where they place the extra jewel. There are a few that are on ebay, but I have yet to see them listed at any of the material houses. I emailed Sellita a while ago, and was told that they only supply OEM and do not sell individual movements. I am considering buying one, as I find the Sea-gull Eta versions so-so. If you can find one, buy one. I'm sure you won't go wrong.
  10. Hi, PM'd replied. I have not tried to fit with a DG movement. Unless it is the same specs as ETA, diameters, stem height, etc, then probably not. I have fit my holders to sea-gull movements. They are basically ETA clones. I am thinking of picking up a Sellita 1824 movement. Swiss Made and identical to the ETA 2824-2, but only around $100. Might be a great alternative to the expensive and hard to get ETA's.
  11. Well, if I was able to afford one, and was actually approved to buy one, I certainly would! But we are talking about a whole different level of Seiko. Seiko has a very small department called the micro arts studio where they create some amazing timepieces. One for example is the Credor Sonnerie. This features spring drive, and an hour chime similar to a Japanese hanging bell. Seiko Credor
  12. Well, I've got one with an 8500. Stilty's 8500 AT One of my main reasons for purchasing the AT was for the 8500 movement and that the watch I bought was a 1st edition. It is a keeper watch that I want to pass on to one of my children. Yes, made and designed by the Swatch group, which owns Omega, but it is still a very beautiful movement. My understanding with the dual mainsprings is that is allows for a more efficient power transfer, as opposed to just an increase in power reserve. And yes, the slower beat rate is noticeable with the sweep second, but I am fine with that too. I makes for a more classic look and follows suit with any other high end caliber. And a little bit of unpublished info, the rotor on the 8500 is tungsten for added weight.
  13. Wow! Nice find!
  14. Happy Birthday! Enjoy the day! cheers!
  15. horrible experience and received useless parts. don't waste your time
  16. So I was reading this months edition of IW, and read a little blurb on the Glycine Airman app for the iPhone. Of course I had to install it. Nice sweep second hand, adjustable 24h hand, and there is a working ocsillating rotor in the exhibition caseback! A flip of the iPhone and it spins, or you can turn it side to side and the weight will move. Very realistic as well! Too bad they didn't have a functioning balance wheel. Then it would be complete! Maybe an email to the developer is needed. How hard could it be to write a script to have a functioning balance? iPhone users, check it out.

  19. Ahhh! and we love tropical islands! Love Maui. stayed in Kaanapali and Kihei, also time on Kauai... very chill, but a lot of rain. If you're up for a house swap... let me know! We live in the city. 10 minutes from downtown Vancouver, and also have a cottage in Tofino. Good surf, but you need a wetsuit.

  21. Just in case anyone was wondering where I've been.... With my recent downtime, we decided to pack up the kids and take them on a road trip. We took 3 weeks, traveled 3790 kms, with 10 stops along the way visiting family and checking out the sites. Who does road trips anymore? I know I haven't been on one in a very, very long time. We left Vancouver and stopped in Sicamous, BC for a few days. (The houseboat capital of the world) No houseboats, but did go boating and swimming. Next stop was Calgary, AB, just in time for the Calgary Stampede. Weather was crap, but we made the best of it, and I even managed to get in a round of golf with the inlaws. After 4 days in Calgary, we headed to Jasper. The drive was stunning through the Rockies and the icefields! Highly recommended! A night in Jasper, then off to Prince George, BC. After a couple days there, we headed west. Off to Smithers for a short visit, then a night at a loveley B&B in Hazelton. Man is it beautiful country up there! The next day, we stopped for a visit to the village of Gitanyow to catch up on some history! Absolutely stunning! Then, a 1/2 day drive through the Skeena valley to Prince Rupert where we stayed overnight to catch a ferry. The next day, we took a 15 hour ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy. A nice day cruise through the inside passage on a brand new boat that was only in commission for about 6 weeks. Made in Germany, and I'm probably the only person who noticed that all the clocks on the vessel were from Wempe. LOL! We stayed over in Port Hardy and then drove to Tofino to wrap up our trip. The weather in Tofino was amazing! We even got our little girl (with some help) out on a surfboard. Took in some whale watching, drank a lot of wine and ate a lot of crab! Then we had to come home. An amazing trip that we probably won't get to do for a long time! cheers!
  22. Hi, I sent a reply via my iphone to your PM, but I was in the wilds of British Columbia and had very sketchy service so I don't know if it went through. Anyway, I have movement holders for your project. If you want to use a genuine date disc, best bet is to go with a 2892-A2 movement. PM me again and I can help you out with pretty much whatever you need. Cheers.
  23. Nice! Seen them all live. Regina has a new one coming soon... Ray is always amazing. I've seen him 3 times. A band slightly more upbeat that I have been listening to a lot lately is "In-Flight Safety". The have a great track called Crash/Land. Has a very 80's Canadian sound. You can stream it at their site http://www.inflightsafety.ca/
  24. I think your talking about underline dials! Very nice! you are growing a beautiful collection!
  25. Thanks everyone for the kind words and comments. A few made me chuckle! This is such a great community! Aside from having my pride hurt a bit, it is an exciting time. Oh, and on a side note... no golf today. Too hot outside and I was too hung over. Again, thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.
