definitely not normal. anywhere outside the zone is a ghost town. small business is hurting in a big way. Main Street: Dead South Granville: Dead 4th Ave. Dead Broadway: Dead And downtown is turning into a zoo, and I'm sad to report it feels like the spirit is leaving. Far too many drunken punks in from the burbs causing trouble. Thousands of douche bags that don't give a [censored] about the games roaming the streets tonight. I hope it is just a weekend thing and the true spirit comes back. The wife and I were out for a walk after the Germany/Belarus game, and we did not feel safe on the streets tonight. Not good vibes out there tonight. I'm worried that if Canada does not win gold in hockey, we are in for a replay of the 1994 stanley cup final.

It depends on which way you are going. You can install a 2836-2, 2846, 2834-2 in a 2824-2 and 2892-A2 movement. But you can't go the other way. 2824-2 and 2892-A2 are flat date discs. The 2836-2 and 2846 are stepped for an overall thickness of around 0.6mm (approx), and the 2834-2 has a step for overall thickness of .40mm (approx) fyi - 2834 discs are great for 2824 and 2892 franken projects

Hi Mike, I have a 3035 adapter and the stem position is the same. I have used the 3035 adapter in a 1680 case, but it does need to be modified. If you look at this picture for example, there are two different steps with two different diameters. The larger diameter step fits in the groove in the case. But the smaller diameter step will need to be reduced in order to fit in the 1680 case. On the 3035, it is 27mm, but the 1680, the diameter needs to be 26.2mm. So it needs to filed down in order to fit. It takes 15-20 minutes to file it down.

You can go to any automotive supply and get some. Just ask for non-hardening gasket sealer. You only need about a pin head amount, just to coat the threads.

Just thought I would mention that if anyone is interested, I still have a few holders available. 2892-A2 to fit in Rolex 3135 case. (162XX case) 2824-2 to fit in Rolex 3135 (162XX case) 2824-2, 2836-2, 2846 to fit in Rolex 3035 case. (160XX case) (These can also be modified to fit in 1570 case, ie 1680, 1601)

Make sure you stop by the Hotel Vancouver (Burrard and Georgia) when you are in town. Omega has set up a boutique for the Olympics. Watchmaker on site to answer questions and show you the 2500 calibre up close, as well as a lot of eye candy.

Yuki Case Question and NDT Band vs. Yuki Band
stilty replied to Gorilladame's topic in The Rolex Area
I have adapters to fit an ETA in a gen 3035 case. They are made for 3035 case, but stem alignment is the same. The adapter needs a bit of modification to fit in the yuki case. but depending on what case you get, it may not need modification. I've had one yuki case where it dropped in. You can fit a 2824-2, 2836-2, 2846 in the yuki case with my adapter. PM if interested. -
Yes, gen tubes fit tight. I installed a new gen tube in a gen case last night and it was tight. It was a 5.3mm tube and was missing the silver gasket, so I used some non-hardening gasket sealer around the threads before I installed. This helps seal the tube, and is easy to remove if necessary.

Nice one! Good to see him in his home colors! yeah, gonna be a great tourney. the game right now between Czech and Slovakia is intense!! Canada is really going to have to bear down and grind one out if they want gold. The Canadian women's team played another close one today.... 13-1 over Sweden with 52 shots on goal. In three games they have out scored their opponents 41-2

yeah, the vibe here is amazing! And C, you would have loved it here when Canada won it's first gold medal on home soil! But, now mens hockey has begun! Canada made a great showing tonight. The first period was a bit concerning, but they sure pulled it together. Iginla with hat trick. 8-0 final. Russia is playing later tonight. Gonna be good. I got lucky and got tix for Russia vs Slovakia on Thursday, and also tix for Germany vs Belarus on Saturday. Going up in the attic to find that German flag I got from my late Grandmother. But I wonder what if I will get some strange looks as it is an old DDR flag.

PM sent. You here now?

Vancouver is such a party right now! A flash mob that ran for four blocks this afternoon down Robson Street. and a nice rendition of oh Canada!
-
not a huge fan either... maybe just the movement. C.2500. Anyone in Vancouver should stop by the Hotel Vancouver. Omega has set up shop for the duration of the Olympics. But don't expect much in the way of museum pieces. But JoJo, if you are reading this, there is a guy from 5th Ave that is working there that we met.

Well, we saw the torch today! I don't know if it is just me, but I now feel the town is buzzing now that it made it to Vancouver. More of the bigger formal ceremonies are tomorrow, but it sure was exciting to see it today. There were thousands and thousands of people cheering and lining the streets, and waving Canadian flags. Made me very proud. The one thing I don't get is why was Arnold Swartzenager invited to carry the torch? One of his election platforms was how evil Vancouver was for having a film industry. WTF? He isn't even Canadian, and only 1/2 American.
-
Well, I was not paying much attention about the Olympics, but now I'm getting excited. The torch is coming to town! It will be running past my Dad's place, and I'm going to take my kids to see it this afternoon. My daughter is very excited! And also, my brother found out he will get to escort the torch to the cauldon lighting on Friday. He'll be in "Red Serge". If anyone is curious, there is a live feed as the torch makes it way into Vancouver. http://www.ctvolympics.ca/torch/follow-torch/index.html

3035/3135 are 22, so no problem getting them from clarks.
-
as for hands, check with clark on ebay. buy a set of tudor hands for sub, and buy a set of rolex sub hands and poach the second hand. If I remember correctly, Rolex 3135 second hands are .22 he has both sets available. he may even just sell you the .22 second hand. he's a very nice guy and is helpful.

Thanks R, That is a definite guide to go by, but what about the non date 1570 models? 5513, etc do not have the date module installed on the movement, correct? or do they have the module, minus the date disc. I've never looked at one in person, but doesn't the dial just sit on top of the mainplate, therefore the stem alignment would be different if the dial was seated on top of the date disc seat? I know someone that installed a 1570 in a 3135 case. He removed the date seat, swapped the CP and HW to shorter height. Rolex offers 2 hand heights for the 1570, so I'm guessing that is why? one set for 1570 with date module, and one set without. Again, never seen one, or worked on a non-date 1570, so I don't know.

That is the part to convert to a 2 position stem. looking forward to seeing the project. I am curious about the case you are using. Is it a gen spec case? Or is it a rep case made for a 2836-2? Reason I ask, is if it is gen spec, you may have a stem alignment problem with the 2846. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the stem position different between a date and non date 1570? The date module is not installed, therefore making the stem closer to the dial side. 1570 with no date module: If you are using a gen spec case, and the stem position is different, you would probably want to transplant the 2846 works into a 2801 or 2824 mainplate. This way your stem will align with the case tube. center stem to dial seat is 2.25mm on the 2846, and center stem to dial seat is 1.80mm on the 2824 and 2801. I could be wrong, so any vintage masters, please chime in.

My understanding is the new V3 is machined for a gen 3135, correct? As well as the new upcoming SD. So if this is the case (no pun intended), then the stem position on the V3 and SD will be 1.75mm. (1.75mm is the stem position on a genuine 3135 movement) This measurement is center stem to dial seat (back of dial). On a 2824-2 the stem position is 1.80mm. On a 2836-2 the stem position is 2.25mm. So anyone attempting to install a 2836-2 in a V3 case is going to have problems with the stem binding and eventually snapping. This will cause stress and eventual failure on the movement. That is to say, if the case is in fact machined for a 3135 movement. If it is machined for a 3135, then the absolute best movement to use would be the ETA 2892-A2. The 2892-A2 stem position is 1.50mm. Use my movement holder which has a built in spacer for stem alignment and you will have perfectly aligned stem. This will also give you 0.25mm of clearance between the dial and movement. Just enough to glue in a genuine date disc. The 2824-2 will work in a gen spec case, but the tolerances are very, very tight. In fact your stem will be 0.05mm off center. As for fitting the 2824-2 in a V2, should be no problem. Just as long as there is a shim or spacer of 0.45mm between the dial and 2824-2. I have movement holders to fit a 2824-2 in a 3035 case. they have built in spacer to align the stem. If there is no spacer, your stem will bind and eventually snap as the stem will not be aligned with the tube hole. it is easy to retro fit 2824-2 into a V2, just not the other way around. Hope this helps.

Check out this video of Vancouver! I love this city and I love living here. ( but ask me how I feel in two weeks when the masses arrive for the Olympics!) best viewed in full screen on 720p with the volume up. the rolling fog shots are pretty cool.

How do you keep you workspace and your watch clean?
stilty replied to gplracer's topic in The Rolex Area
that is easy.... can't go wrong with black and decker. -
All the 2846 I have seen are non-hack. I usually install a stop lever from a 2836-2 to make it hack. But it is all a matter of personal preference. If your 2846 is "hacking", the lever can be removed, but I only recommend doing this if you have experience in assembling/disassembling movements. A lot can go wrong real quick! But, that is the best way to learn. "trial and error". You can order the part (for 2801-2) from a supply house to make it 2 position, but if you want to save $8.00-$12.00 (depending on shipping) and time, just mod the part. It is quite easy to do if you have a small file, care and patience.

There is one option to have a correct hand stack, and that is to install the hour hand on the 24h wheel, and the GMT hand on the HW. It would look a bit funny as your hour hand would advance in 1/2 hour increments, while your GMT hand would function as an hour hand. From center stem to back of dial is 2.00mm, so no problem with stem alignment. The case was made for a 2836 I'm assuming? So center stem to back of dial is 2.2mm in the case. There is even a possibility to fit a genuine date disc in there. The 2893-2 is fitted with a date disc that has a step to raise the face of the disc up to the back of the dial. Overall thickness is .065mm. Standard ETA date disc is 0.20mm and seats flush in the movement. In theory, you could install a 2834-2 date disc that only has a step of 0.40mm. This will give you an extra 0.20mm between the 2834-2 disc and back of dial. Gen Rolex disc is 0.18mm thick, so you have 0.02mm difference to fit in there. Also, the difference between the 2836-2 and 2893-2 is 0.20mm, so you could install a 0.20mm spacer between movement and dial, but then you can run the risk of not being able to install the hands. The tallest hand fitting height for the 2893-2 is 0.90mm for the 24h wheel. But if you subtract 0.40mm for the dial you only have 0.50mm to attach the hand. And if you install a spacer subtract another 0.20mm, so you now you only have 0.30mm to attach the hand. Anyway, I've heard good things about your watchmaker, so I'm sure he figured it out and you will have a great timepiece!

Stem alignment would not be an issue at all. Seeing as the 2893 is based on the 2892, it is a thinner movement. Even with the 24h function, alignment would be no problem. I'm not near my computer, but if I remember correctly, the stem position is similar to a 2824-2. I'm really curious as to how you managed to get the hands installed to clear the dial markers? I've researched a project like this before and the 24h wheel is too short, at least one from ETA, as well as the hour wheel. I'm impressed if you found a way to make it happen! I gave up a while ago. Cheers!
