  1. looks like yuki is getting some attention on VRF: fake cases and parts
  2. nice read! i love the jig too.
  3. Looking for other input on the pantone color of a champagne date disc. Any help or suggestions on ensuring I get the best match? I scanned a gen disc I have and found the CMYK value, as well as Pantone value in Photoshop of the scan. There are a few due to slight variations in the scan, but the majority of the values are this: c:11 m:10 y:37 k:0 Pantone: e4d9ab I know scanners, printers, etc all vary. Any suggestions on getting a close match? Should I take an actual photo over a scan? Go to home depot and try out their color match system in the paint department?
  4. I printed a few samples, but they were not great quality. I printed on champagne and white, and a silvery finish. They were printed with a PAD printer. Same format as the gens are printed. I'm just soaking a bunch of painted blanks in some serious paint remover to get them back to clean SS. I may try and print a few on the clean blanks for that silvery finish. I'm not getting my hopes up, but I might get lucky.
  5. Do you think it would help if you were to sand down the walls of the crystal? This would make the crystal thinner and sit closer to the dial, therefore reducing the mag? Might be worth experimenting, especially with the inexpensive clarks.
  6. I did notice that! I remember the days when you could pick up a complete 16200 set from him for $300. Dial, case, bracelet, crown. All in mint condition.
  7. Glad to hear the adapter arrived so quickly! Amazing how that is some times. 3 days from Canada to Germany is pretty good! It can take 7-10 days, or longer for a small packet from the US to Canada. Can't figure that one out. I hear you on the waiting! but that is half the fun! Anticipation. Only thing I'm waiting for today is a load of topsoil for the garden. Been waiting an hour, and now they call and say they'll be another two hours. So here I am typing away. But who knows, I might get a surprise and have some parts arrive today! I love surprises.
  8. I was told by Yuki that a genuine crystal will not fit this case. Some problem with the bezel. I asked for more specifics, but was not given an answer. They told me if I want to use a genuine crystal, that I would need a genuine bezel. I found that the Yuki 1680 bezel retaining ID was too small to fit over the genuine 127. I had to sand it out until I was able to fit it over the crystal. I would consider going with a Yuki case if he was selling it for $200 or less, then I could justify finding another bezel. But when he is asking $550 for a case that only accepts his crystal... no chance. Have you tried to fit a genuine crystal to your case?
  9. Are you working on this project? Let me know how it goes!
  10. @Marty - I have the 1570 w/ date and the following parts on the way: #8038 - center second pinion 5.70mm #8037 - Cannon Pinion 3.39mm #8039 - hour wheel with double toothing 2.44mm #8040 - 24hr wheel 1.41mm #8035 - Calendar Wheel nut #8036 - Date Jumper #8006 - Yoke for cam #8008 - spring for cam yoke #8011 - stud for cam #8030 - Center wheel with Cannon Pinion I have #8034 Calendar Wheel in hand, so I think I'm covered as far as parts for the conversion, in fact a few may be redundant. @Zig, Is #8035 Calendar Wheel Nut, the nut you are talking about? I also have #8011 Stud for Cam on the way. I believe this is the post you are talking about? I see 8034, 8035 and 8011 in a grouping on the Rolex sheets. @yachtie - I figured shimming the date disc seat would be the way to go. The difference between the two movements is 0.17mm, so I figure that is the thickness of the shim I need. I wonder if I will need new screws as well? I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
  11. Hi Everyone, I'm looking into a new vintage project and have a few questions for the experts, past and current builders of 1575 GMT models. ie. the 1655 or 1675. I will be converting a standard 1570 w/ date into a 1575 GMT movement in the near future. I have noticed from tech sheets that a 1575GMT is 6.47mm in height while the standard date model is 6.30mm in height. A difference of 0.17mm. I recall somewhere, that the date disc seat is taller on the GMT then regular movement in order for the date disc to clear the date driving wheel. The 0.17mm makes sense. Has anyone here converted a standard 1570 to 1575GMT? Did you encounter any issues with the date disc rubbing on the extra driving wheels? I'm wondering if my current date disc seat is too low, if I could shim it up so the date disc clears the wheels. Here is a picture of the standard 1570 w/ date. And here is a picture of the 1575GMT. Please note the extra driving wheel, and also how much higher the date disc is from the mainplate. Also, anyone have any issues with installing the GMT movement into either J&W, NDT, or Yuki? Are these cases made to gen 1575 GMT specs? Any issues with installing a GMT movement in the cases? Any suggestions on who has the best 1655 case? I have been in conversation with Yuki, and he has informed me that their 1655 case may have issues fitting a genuine crystal, so I think their case is off my list. If I can't find a good 1655, I may opt for a 1675 project. Any help would be appreciated.
  12. There is a Eurotimez case in the For Sale section with all the mods done, shaved CG's, drilled lug holes, including a clarks crystal, genuine Rolex tritium insert, and genuine Rolex crown.
  13. Sweet! I use the same chair!
  14. Love the white nato! Where did you get it? I'm looking over my collection for a candidate.
  15. inside dimensions are that of the ETA movement. OD dimensions are that of the Rolex movement. ETA fits snuggly in the holder, the holder matches the grooves of the Rolex case. stem position is matched so the stem does not bind in the tube.
  16. I decided to give a pocket square a go the other with a blazer. The wife said I looked like I belong on "queer eye for the straight guy"! Not what I was expecting. I have worn one with a tuxedo, but never with a less formal jacket. Anyone else rock a pocket square?
  17. yeah, my 1570 from '72 hacks, so don't worry about having a watch that hacks. If you really want to get it closer to gen, remove the quickset date and convert it to a two position stem. Then you can only set the date by advancing the hands past midnight... but it is a real pain in the ass!
  18. Wow! Great job and even greater gesture!
  19. If you are using a 2836 or 2846. Hand fitting height will be fine for the 1680. For the 2824, I installed H.4 parts and it is fine for the 1680. I did not install hands as I was not going to use the movement, dial, in the 1680 case. I was only using it for test fitting. The gen dial/movement will go back in when I am done. The hour wheel is what the hour hand attaches to. Cannon Pinion is what the minute hand attaches to The 4th Wheel is what the second hand attaches to. They are available in different heights to allow for dial markers, etc.
  20. well... I still have about 200 blanks, a Pad printer, and printing plates. just a matter of finding the correct ink mixture and the time to work on it... I know Mrs. Stilty would like something done with it all! LOL
  21. I had a batch plated a while ago. It was done by a process called electroless plating and I had them done in nickel. I'll ask if they can do rhodium. They told me they can apply a very thin even layer of plating in order to not affect the tolerances. While very thin, it still had an affect and made fitting very tight. But yes, they do look great plated! If I remember, it was $4-5 each for them to do it, but I only had 10 or so done for my own use.
  22. didn't install any hands. I was just test fitting the movement holder and checking stem alignment. @mjmj I talked to my CNC guy today, he is backed up a couple weeks. still negotiating price, but it all depends on quantity. I'm hoping for $40, or less, packaged, shipped, and PP's out the door.
  23. 1030 calibre movement? It can be done, I would really need to find a 1030 to take some measurements... ideally, it would be great to have a holder where the dial pressed on
  24. I have received a fair amount of interest in movement holders to fit an ETA movement in a Yuki 1680 case. They will be CNC machined from brass to retro-fit a 2824-2, 2836-2, or 2846 into a case made for a Rolex 1570/1575. These will work for 1680, 1665, 1500, any 1570/75 with date. I am also looking into getting some made for the non-date models. ETA 2824-2 into a 5513, 5512, 5517, etc. Here are a few pictures of a prototype I have. The case pictured is a Yuki 1680. Movement is an ETA 2824-2 fitted in the case with the prototype holder. Anyone interested, please let me know.
  25. Nice job!
