  1. Decided to take a little off the bezel height too. Makes it look slightly thinner and closer to the gen.
  2. ...and on a Fluco handmade "Hunter" 19mm rally strap 0.26mm white hands from CousinsUK. Hub of the hands dipped in acetone to remove paint for a gen-like look.
  3. Thanks guys. The hands are fiddly being so small but not too difficult to do. Just need to protect the dial when removing the original ones. I may try tackling the crown logo on the dial at some point, replacing it with a gen from a donor dial.
  4. Correct, the sub-dial at 6 is non-functional. The case itself is marked 6263, so the same as the Daytona reps. It's slightly thicker than the gen I'd say
  5. Thank you buddy! It's all been done before by much more talented RWG members than myself.
  6. Well, I bought a black dial pre-Daytona 6238 a couple of weeks ago from Josh on a whim. http://www.pf-818.com/watches/rolex/daytona/vintages/stainless-steel-collection/0-0-0-0-0-0rldv00115-6238-ss-ss-black-asian-venus-75-h-w.html?___SID=U I put it up for C&R sale, but there was no love for it. So, decided to mod it instead The Cartel sub-dial hands are just too thick. I bought a thinner set of 0.26mm diameter hands in white, carefully removing the the paint from the hub with acetone to get a look closer to the gen. I stained the lume of the hour and minute hands ever so slightly with coffee and painted the tip of the large chrono second hand too. Cartel sub-dial hands ...new thinner gen-like sub-dial hands During the movement removal, the L-shaped lever that allows the positioning of asymmetric pushers fell off, it was just loosely glued in place. After cleaning I used JB Marine Weld epoxy to hold it firmly in place. Needless to say, the lower reset pusher will only be used sparingly in future. I guess this is a problem applicable to all Cartel Daytonas with the Venus 75 movement. Rather than the squarish Cartel crystal I went for a Clark T21 crystal that is slightly more rounded, lower in profile and generally more vintage in feel. Next step was to shape, soften and age the case to give the watch an appropriate patina. ...and finally on the wrist with a period Perlon strap.
  7. Picked up the watch around 3 years ago from Puretime. I've just checked and unfortunately it looks like it's no longer available, a pity as it's a good starting point. The dial was from Ingod44 26mm if I remember rightly, also no longer trading. Bezel assembly is from WSO. The insert, the closest I could find, off eBay from a UK seller. Pearl from Yuki. The crystal is a gen T19 serivce crystal. NATO strap from Phoenix, the original MOD supplier.
  8. ...minute and second hand are too long. Also, among other things, there are no accurate rep bezel inserts for the 5517.
  9. Go for the HR handset: http://www.helenarou.com/5517-milsub-super-lume-watch-hands-correct-sec-tip-for-e551728242836.html You will need to trim the tail of the second hand though as it's too long, something that's often overlooked. Here's mine next to a gen:
  10. Rafflestime is good value, solid midlinks though and you will need to drill out the end midlink slightly to fit 2mm spring bars: http://rafflestime.com/signed-20mm-oyster-ss-quality-watch-bracelet-all-matt/
  11. Thanks Yes I do my own mods. I tend use a diamond file for the CGs followed up with finer grades of sandpaper. Good luck with your build!
  12. Unfortunately you don't have the gen spec bezel assembly for a 1665. Judging by the underside it was originally for a later SD model with a click spring. The wire clip you have is the what holds the bezel in place on the retaining ring. Your best option is to use the dental floss trick already suggested by TheSociety. You need to reassemble the bezel and thread a strand of dental floss under the bezel that will add friction to the bezel rotation. Alternatively you could source a gen spec assembly to install. Phong would be a good choice, it's what I installed on mine.
  13. Lightly brushing on coffee or tea does the trick. Let it dry, add another coat until you've got the patina you want.
  14. You can scrape it out with a toothpick or watch oiler. You may need to soften it first with water or acetone.
  15. Very nice! Rolojack & Domi did a great job.
