Less is more when it comes to patina. Most gens I've seen have been well looked after and have subtle signs of aging. Here's my 1665 with the following specs:
1665 from PC
703 crown
Singer dial, lume lightly stained with tea, light coating of matt varnish
Yuki insert and pearl
Polexpete DWO
Shaped CGs
Drilled out lugs to 1.2mm
Softened case
Tudor ETA hands
ETA 2846
A few more builds with varying levels of "patina".
5513 PCG
5517
5513 feet first
5513 meters first
Thanks. I may give the inner diameter of the rehaut a go if it doesn't work out with the crystal options. However, that will be in Microns as the Singer dial is seated nicely.
Good point. I guess you mean the crystal. Could well be that the rehaut optically increases when the crystal is shortened. I may give the Sternkreuz T19 crystal a go, it should have less curvature. Either that or find a better case;)
With the original T39-like Cartel crystal the rehaut doesn't appear as wide. However, the curvature of the crystal does distort the dial. I do also prefer the Clark T19 profile, so I might try shaving a little off the height to see if that improves the situation.
This has been bugging me. Is the rehaut width on the Cartel 5513 too wide, or is it the curvature of the T19 Clark crystal that makes it appear so? I tend to think it is, as a gen spec Singer dial sits nicely within the case, and the Clark T19 crystal fits snugly too. Would reducing the height of the Clark crystal help reduce this effect? Anyone done this mod?
Just finished. Probably the easiest build I have done:
JMB case set
ETA 2824-2
Yuki dial, lightly sprayed with matt varnish
Raffles Time ETA hand set
