  1. Sorry my friend, I'm confused now. You say the watches are held up in customs in the UK, and you live in France? Are they being sent "directly" to you, and if so what are they doing in the UK, and why did UK customs even look at them? I would have thought if they were being sent directly to you they would have gone from China straight to France? This is PureTimes part of the forums here:- http://www.rwgforum.net/forum/64-puretime-watches-international/ The chaps username is PureTime, first name Angus. I would send him a PM with your order reference number and politely ask him for an update on the progress of your order. But remember if he's busy trying to get customs to release them, the last thing he will need is a customer sending emails / PMs day after day, so, you know, send a PM / email and wait a week, if no response send another. If it's the same Puretime it will get sorted out though, although the wait can shred your nerves (I waited 3 months for my last order from a TD), especially a large expensive order. Don't forget to post pictures of the watches when you get them! What have you ordered?
  2. I was thinking along the lines of servicing a watch is a very skilled watchsmiths job. Taking a watch case apart and taking the movement out doesn't need that level of skills. So if you have a "normal" watchsmith near you who you trust to take the movement out (and put it back in when it's been serviced), get them to take it out, then sent the movement to someone like MD2020 / Rolexman, who'll do a sterling job and send it back to you, then get your local watchsmith to reassemble it. It would work out cheaper I bet, and only take another few days. Just an option to consider!
  3. I know a lot of these "complications" are just willy waving by the various companies trying to out-do each other. And I think the world is a better place because of it!! Who needs it? No one! Does it make sense to design and create them? Of course not! Do we want them? To bloody right we do!!
  4. If you bought it with triangular shipping (China > UK > France) and it's stuck in the delivery to the UK leg, then the TD will sort it, and PureTime is a TD here so reliable. Just have patience, the TDs agent will be trying to get the goods out of customs hands and minimise the payment.
  5. Have you considered getting the movement taken out of the case and sending the movement to someone who'll do the service? I can't see customs being bothered by a bare movement? And removing & reinstalling the movement from a watch is a lot less skilled than servicing a movement. Richard
  6. Tag Carrera 16 And on the other hand a YGG Dali I just got today Richard
  7. Hehehe, if you don't ask, you won't get! As my mum always used to say Richard
  8. Hey Nanuq, I can't afford the asking price but I like the watch. Got too many watches already in the few months I've been here but for RWG i have PMd you an offer I hope is too hard to refuse (Fat chance!!!) Richard
  9. At 3.5" wide and 1.5" thick, I bet you could fit 9 regular movements in there for all the hands, leaving only the problem of how to wind them all using a single crown!
  10. Love the watch and the unveiling of the case The stage lights and the cufflinks are cool! Horrible reading about what happened to you, there really are some scum about and I don't think less of anyone for really hating scum like that. Respect for the blind bike speed challenge, keep me updated about that, sounds fun.
  11. It's a pity that everyone likes using their web browser to access forums and so on. It wouldn't take too much to code a front end "forum" app that used bittorrent as the back end, meaning that a dozen or so members with a decent fast and reliable net connection could actually host the forum data in a bit torrent way (on PCs that would need to be left on 24/7). You'd have great redundancy and the bandwidth would be split between the member hosts too. Updates and new posts wouldn't be quick to propagate though, but small price to pay.
  12. Tsk, keep up with the times will you! http://www.dqsolutions.co.uk/portable_tablet_pc.htm
  13. This sounds interesting. Thread bookmarked for when you post pics of the finished article
  14. Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Panerai He was not afraid to wind, O brave Sir Robin He was not at all afraid to be frank(en) in nasty ways Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin He was not in the least bit scared to have his sub mashed to a pulp Or to have his jewels gouged out and his split-pins broken To have his mainspring split and his lume burned away And his bezel all hacked and mangled, brave, brave Sir Robin
  15. Do you think I'll get banned or told off if I post "wwwwWhat is your favourite colour?" On each new holy grail FS thread? Richard
  16. Bwaahahaha! God I love that film (apart from the ending) Will have to dig it out and watch it again. Richard
  17. Does anyone else have a little snigger every time they see a "Holy-Grail" FS thread? I always get images of a peasant running along with two coconut halves making horse shoe sound impressions (Monty Python) Richard
  18. Thanks That Pan is this one here http://www.utterwatches.com/Panerai_Skeleton_Unitas_6497_Movement_Manaul_Winding_Rose_Gold_Case_with_Golden_Skeleton_Dial_New_Version-20360.html I've posted a review of the dealer in the "Other Dealers" section, have a read of it before you tell your friend to order. (I didn't have any problems)
  19. Glad you're enjoying your new watch. Adding pictures is easy - if you're replying to a thread scroll down to the bottom and just under the "Reply to this topic" box is a "More Reply Options" button, press that and in that window just below where you type your reply is a button where you can upload attachments. Click "Choose Files", browse to your images (JPGs), click OK, and then they'll be uploaded. Once uploaded you just click "Add to post" and it'll insert a link wherever the cursor is in your post like this:-
  20. Sorry to hear the bad news, especially the double whammy so close to the birth, that really sucks. It sounds like you've got plenty of offers to help you with the letter (I've done quite a few CVs in my time and my sister is a professional at knowing what to do). I'm not sure where in the UK you are but I've got a couple of watches I'd like serviced / AR redone / lume improved.
  21. Took a load of high res photos of me new PVD Tag and skeleton Pam on Sunday. The few that turned out OK I've posted in the photo forum, enjoy
  22. PVD Tag Cheap skeleton Pan PVD Rolex Pro Hunter, Seiko 5, PVD Tag Seiko
  23. Died somewhere between 72 hours and 80 hours this morning. I may swap this one with a movement that doesn't last as long in one of my watches as I like it Richard
  24. 331! Blimey, that one'll be taking off and flying soon I'm just curious how long it'll go for, and how long on average they go for? I've just been photographing some watches and the cheap skeleton Pam has an unmarked Chinese 6497 in it which is behaving oddly, the escape wheel slows down every half turn for a couple of teeth and then goes back to normal speed. I had the camera in video mode with macro lens watching it and its quite obvious at hi magnification. Can't see anything wrong, no broken teeth, pallets look good, but I'm not familiar with what to look for. It's been regulated so it keeps time like it is, so it's not something that's just gone wrong with it. I'm just curious and it'll be a nice beginners project to work on Richard
  25. What is the normal power reserve on one of these? I've read a few places stating 48 hours, and I'm guessing it's more like 55 hours to cope with the odd lay in bed on the second day by owners I got myself an 6497 movement to practise playing with it, and as I need to re-organise my workshop I haven't gotten round to doing anything with it yet apart from wind it up and stick it on the timeographer. 72 hours and still going. Fairly constant +12s/day, and amplitude starting at 305 fully wound and down to 270 after 48 hours. I haven't got a clue who made it.
