  1. Awesome job as always D. I remember I had to lightly sand my 7020 for my 5513 project Damn you Rolex... Damn you...
  2. As a collector of coins, I guess anything can be faked if there is enough profit in doing so. So you have to ask yourself, what does it take to make a passable fake FF insert? You'd had to create printing pads with the correct fonts and you have to construct them the same as the genuine FF inserts. (this can get costly taking into account the different iterations printing and pad wear that evident on gen FF inserts) So in order to make sense in terms of profit.. meaning if there was an operation faking them, they would need to flood the market to make a profit. Do you see a flood of Fat Font Inserts into the market? Nope. Actually it's the opposite, there is more demand than supply and it's been that way for the past 5 years or so. And the ones that are coming on the market are all different, in terms of age, patina, fade, wear, mk0, mk2, mk3 etc. No 2 inserts are rarely the same. You don't see for example 500 mint condition long 5 kissing 4 inserts hitting the market. The only known fake is the Yuki FF Insert and genuine fat font inserts have some "printing" tells vs Yuki. The silver font printing on gen FF inserts are printed on top of the black. On the Yuki, the silver printing is exposed metal. You can tell this by trying to fade the yuki with bleach, the silver fonts won't fade out as the black fades out.
  3. story of my life. I've ruined many thumbs and chipped many finger nails trying to install inserts into bezels. I just let my watchmaker do it.. he's a magician with watches... I had him do it so many times, he doesn't even charge me anymore.
  4. What the hell did you feed that thing? That is the fattest Fat Font Insert I've ever laid eyes on. It's so fat, it puts other Fat Fonts to shame Well done sir It might add 20 pounds to the watch you install it on, so be careful
  5. at this point I would eat Ramen noodles for a week to spring (pun intended) for some gen end links life is not worth stressing over end links
  6. You must be trolling... Doesn't hurt a thing? I do a lot of Judo Chops when I'm walking around and the only thing that is keeping my $7000 watch from kissing the pavement is the springbars...
  7. Yuppers. I'll take some more pics later with my DSLR crappy phone pic.
  8. Here's my humble 1680 Major Props goes to Dbane for the Pearl !!
  9. OMG WHUT 6536 or 6536/1 or 5508 ?!!!? I can never tell with these early "bond" subs. I've seen that insert before...Love it More pics.. and that watch deserves it's own thread
  10. Gilt PCG.. what!! SHut your mouth. NOooooooooo... don't do it. Absolutely Gorgeous Look how fat those fonts are.... wow
  11. Yup. I currently have my end links pinched half way on my 1680 like this:
  12. Open them up to move the pins closer to the case Close them up to move the pins away from the case
  13. Incredible watch. Great Shot Love everything about this watch
  14. I got it from Rolex Forum... can't take credit lol
  15. Hmmm I'm a bit confused... as always... I was wondering how the bevel UNDER the Retaining Ring Helps with the bezel rotation? If I'm understanding this correctly.... The bezel is inserted (pressed) on the watch until the bottom edge clicks onto the edge of the retainer ring (small red arrow). Once in place, the washer pushes the bezel up and the friction between the bezel and the retainer (light blue arrow) prevents the accidental turning of the bezel. Pushing down on the bezel creates a small gap between the bezel and the retainer (light blue arrow) and it rotates more freely.
  16. I keep coming back to this and I can't get over how fat those fonts are on that insert.... Do you know if there are any MK designations for these Fat Font Pepsi inserts similar to the MK0 MK1 MK2 MK3 Fat Font designations assigned to diver inserts?
  17. Oh wow I did not know about the beveled edge and it makes perfect sense, as pointed out by CC33. When I have some time this weekend I'll dissect my 1680 and let you know if my retaining ring has the same characteristics.
  18. How did I miss this... Great looking 5514. Cwazy did a great job on that lume.
  19. Last week I was luck enough to pick up a great MK3 FF Ghost Insert for my 1680 My wife knowing how much I loved the Diablo, surprised me with a Bulang & Sons Distressed Denim strap today as an early Fathers Day gift. Sorry for the horrible phone picture, but I'm waiting for a pearl from Dbane and once installed, I'll take some better pics with my DSLR.
