  1. Awesome selection, bro Out of curiousity, how do you find the Zulu straps comfort-wise compared to the NATO ones? I really like the look of them, but they look like the loops would 'flap about' during wear
  2. I'd have to disagree, as the parts were tested, and the dealer was happy that they were authentic pieces. I agree, it's a franken, but either way, the parts are still worth their value as gen parts. From that point of view, I don't think it matters if it's a franken or not, simply because the parts involved were all gen, so the deal was done on their collective value, rather than the history of the watch...
  3. Do you have a particular source for dials, or just hunting on the Bay?
  4. Thanks bro, Yeah, it's a shame about the GMT II, but, I guess that's just the way things go sometimes Thanks, I've just put a little 'wear and tear' on the insert to match the bracelet and crystal (being perspex, it's taken a few scuffs, which, although I could polish them out, I feel give it character ) Nothing major, but I got the screwdriver I'd use to change PAM straps, and simply ran it around the inside rim of the bezel, and then around touching the edge of the crystal, so there are a few hair-fine scratches on the insert to take away from that 'Box Fresh' appearance... I'll be sure to take pics of the finished project I think the DJ dial (I'd really prefer an AirKing dial, but couldn't get one as cheap) will make it look a bit like a Super Ocean Heritage (when on a rubber strap) but, I'm also tempted to stick a Tudor dial in to keep it as a Submariner... I think the thing I like most, is the slimline vintage case, which I just think is nicer, and less 'in your face' than a modern Sub case [Edit to add] Just a quick and dirty to show what I've done to the insert [Edit to add] The photo makes the scuffs much more noticeable than they actually are with the naked eye... To the eye, they're nowhere near as noticeable or prominent. It just makes the watch look a few years old and 'well worn', rather than 'totally abused' as the photo would suggest
  5. Absolutely fantastic No-dates are definitely more elegant without the cyclops
  6. You're quite right, it just shows a real lack of respect for the buyer. Of course, it could just be a bluff so as not to admit to being a drop-shipper, but either way, it's a disrespectful attitude to take, afterall, we may be buying replica watches, but we're not paying with replica money, and given the profits a dealer can make, a little courtesy isn't a big price to pay... As you say, Karma will make sure they get theirs I'm not familiar with Perpetual, but I'll certainly steer well clear in future if I ever come across them, so no need to apologize for the rant, it's such posts which reveal potential (or repeat) issues with a dealer, and that's useful to all the community
  7. Absolutely fantastic [Edit to add] Never mind this: "Silly question, but what is the model number which accompanies that no-date dial?" I've read and found it's a 9401
  8. I'm wearing my last complete Rolex, my Project Sub Since it arrived from Silix, it's had a new dial, new bezel insert, and a different bracelet, with another clasp swapped in (as well as the options of a NATO and rubber strap). I still have plans to install a DJ dial, to see if I can get something like a Super Ocean Heritage out of it, or, failing that, I might start looking for a Tudor dial, and go for something a little different
  9. Ahh, so a bit larger, but not Planet Ocean size The bezel is certainly striking, it's a really nice watch Thanks for the comparison shots, it puts the size in perspective nicely
  10. That's a nice looking dive watch, what kind of size is it? About the same as a Submariner?
  11. After such an awesome photo, I had to make an homage shot of my own
  12. What an awesome deal I have to admit, I've never been over fond of the TT Subs (probably because I can't wear gold) but seeing this photo: I've got to say, Wow, that is one awesome watch Congrats on such an awesome deal
  13. Nothing to apologize for, it's a reasonable question to ask A couple of points... Many dealers here are drop-shippers, so cannot always offer that service. That said, there are dealers here who can, and do provide photos of the specific watch purchased Those I would consider to be reasonable and honest responses... Those are just rudeness... Point one, no, people might not look at their watch through a lens all the time, but, that does not mean that certain noticeable details should not be accurate... As for price justified, when I've sold stuff here, if I've ever been asked for another photo of the item, I have always provided it. Okay, so it might take 10 minutes to set up the shot, get the detail required, upload the photo to a hosting account and then email the intersted party, but if I'm selling something, and someone wants a better look, then that 10 minutes is what is required, just like any other job where people have to 'go through the motions' to close a transaction/finalize a project. To say it's not justified at that price point, is utterly rude, and I bet an attitude which that person would never tolerate from sales staff, if they were the one making the purchase. I wouldn't call the 'good luck' sarcasm, but text can be harder to interpret than verbal communications... Maybe they meant well, maybe they were just trying to stick the knife in one more time, if it's the latter, then the laugh's on them, as chances are you will be able to find a dealer who will be able to meet your requirements. Personally, I've always been satisfied with the 'stock shot' on the website. I'm not so concerned about individual details that I want to see exactly which watch I'm getting... As long as it's the right model, and has been reasonably well put together, I'm happy
  14. Just for the record, it was a halogen bulb Lesson learned
  15. If it could be made to work, then I think it's an awesome idea
  16. UV LEDS give a good response as well, I think the problem is I held the watch near the bulb for about a minute... Oh well, lesson learned
  17. I was just trying to see if a longer charge from the bulb, would provide a longer lume glow. If it's any consolation, I could tell the time when I woke up, the time just wasn't right
  18. You might say that I woke up this morning to find that the watch had stopped just before midnight, and, once the time was reset, it ran, but, the date wheel would not roll over... This afternoon, I dismantled the watch, and discovered that rather than being an overlay, the entire datewheel was a plastic cog, which had warped slightly, which was preventing it engaging with the rest of the movement... Oh well, we live and learn I'd originally bought the watch to be given away anyway, I guess it just wasn't meant to be that I keep it personally
  19. Plastic parts warp, and the watch stops functioning RIP GMT II
  20. Nothing new from me, I'm afraid, but I'm loving wearing it I guess the red on the bezel insert isn't quite as distracting as I first feared
  21. As folks have already said, if it wasn't the watches, it would have been something else. I wouldn't like to say what, but watches is too petty to be a key motivating factor... At the end of the day, even if you don't get back together with her, try and maintain good relations for the sake of your son, so the one thing he can be sure of, is consistency Sorry to hear about it, and best of luck with everything
  22. What a tool, he's going to have a nice karmic comeuppance befall him at some point... Sorry to hear about your situation, as others have said, these things happen for a reason, and to allow us to grow, so best of luck with everything
  23. Feel free to give them a try, afterall, that's the only way we'll find out about new reliable sources Just don't spend more than you'd be prepared to lose
