  1. Funny how it goes back and forth... :g:

I never let the PAMS off my wrist .. now I'm going through a period where I can't get the Omegas<IWC's and Breightlings off .. my Pams are neglected

I'm curious to see if this is a phase and what the cycle will be like :whistling:

LIVE STRONG AND WEAR IT WELL

This is the thing, part of me is thinking "Once I put a suit on, I'll put the Omega's back on..." but part of me is saying that the utter simplicity and minimalism of the PAM dial will keep winning me over  Confusing times indeed :D

  2. How about the reverse, when a watch becomes your favorite when it shouldn't? My SMP Chrono is in this category - I have so many watches more deserving of wrist time, but the SMP Chrono gets more wrist time than any other watch, including a "better' standard SMP, Double AR 3717 and Inge and GST, DSN 111H and 082 and 183, 3 Breitling Evo's and SFSO, 2 uPO's, etc..... And this despite the fact that the date changes at 4 am instead of midnight, the crown spring is limp, and a gap in the bracelet between the clasp and first link. Despite all this I wear the heck out of this watch, and I'm not even sure why:

    Wristshots018-1.jpg

I know that feeling as well :D Before I got my decent 2531.80, my 2531.80 project watch (which really was rather inaccurate) got more wrist time than my Submariner, which was by far the more attractive watch. I think part of the reason, was that the movement was about +2 secs a day, and, I'd come to prefer Omegas over Rolex. I still have it, but it's in need of a movement transplant (I killed this one attempting to learn how to regulate them)

  3. I did not, since the only omega logo buckle that I have is the deployant that came with the watch, which tapers down to about 20mm IIRC (I can't remember what it was since I got the watch in Nov '06, and basically threw the strap in the garbage as soon as it arrived, and put the buckle in my case). See pics below for an idea of what it looks like; sorry that there really isn't a good shot of the entire watch with the strap <_< . I love that the XXL accepts 24mm straps. It is just as chameleonic as a PAM when it comes to straps, IMO.

That looks amazing. I'm definitely getting one of those straps now :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  4. Now that is interesting, Defacto. Putting on PAM straps on other watches. Someone should post about this!

With the leather straps, it's not really an issue, as they all look great, but I'm sure I remember seeing where someone had fit a rubber Breitling (or PAM) strap to a Planet Ocean. That was just wrong

P.S.: TeeJay, I've had my eye on that very strap for a while! $179.00 divided by 2 = 89.5...never seen it lower...

One day :lol:B) I would order it now, but alas, birthday presents and guinea pig hutches have to come first :(

  5. I have that strap on my Railmaster rep...it is great! You will definitely be very happy with it.

Indeed, I've seen it on someone else's PAM, and it looked really sharp :) Costs nearly 3 times what I paid for the watch, but I think it'll look awesome :)

    [Edit to add]

Out of curiosity, did you fit an OEM Omega buckle to yours?

  6. Too good not to mention guys, but please excuse if this is bad form:

Timeconnection.biz is having ANOTHER 50% sale, via other rep watch forums. Please have a gander at exact details there, and do take advantage of the situation, strapaholics. I don't usually mention those other forum deals, but this is special.

I'm thinking of all of you who especially wanted the Senape (which I've been told has limited stocks), or the Fiero, but couldn't conceive forking out almost $200 for a strap.

Me, I'm deciding whether to go with GeF's La Spezia:

    LaSpezia_Cognac.jpg

Or, finally, the Mario Paci XI -- the Papaya:

    MPXI_Papaya_Brown.jpg

In 24mm, to be used primarily with my PAM 112. I would've chosen the Papaya already, if only for the fact that I favour reddish tones in straps.

But if you have any opinions either way, please let me know. :)

Update: All is well. To those that understand my meaning, you will know what a weight off my mind this is. I'll begin the Caper Part 5 tonight!

Of the two you've shown, personally, I'd go with the first strap...

I know it's not part of the Caper, but this is a strap I'll definitely have to aquire in the future :thumbsupsmileyanim:

  7. Hi Winson,

The watch you are thinking of (as worn by Daniel Craig in Casino Royale) is the Omega 2220.80 SMP. I have a less than accurate rep of one, which personally, I really like. However, that is because the flaws it has, are things I like... Your comment about the Omega logo and word Omega... On the gen watch, both are metal attachents, as on the Planet Ocean. Personally, I think the metal word Omega, with it's joined up letters, actually makes the watch 'look fake'... The rep I have, has the logo and word printed on the dial in ink. It's by no means perfect, and, although I prefer the look of ink to metal, I appreciate it's not what you're looking for...

Best of luck with your search :)

  8. I have a fairly larger collection 20 (+) pieces.

They are ALL my second favorites since I got my MBK Nautilus a month or so ago.

For the first time in 4 years, I have worn this watch exclusively. I can't take the thing off.

I can's stop looking at it, never really seeing the time...just admiring the way the light plays off the the polished/brushed case. For me it works for all occasions, jacket, or jeans.

To me it is the worlds most beautiful watch. Period. This photo does it no justice.

    post-22-1190323542_thumb.jpg

I have to admt, the Nautilus is a gorgeous watch. I have no plans at present to buy one, but, like the AP Royal Oak, I suspect if I saw one 'in person', I would probably really like it.

  9. I'm suffering right now. I bought my TT Navi from itseme over at RWI while my blue SFSO was away being repaired. I fell in love with the Navi, what a great looking watch on leather or TT strap, wore nothing else for 3 weeks, not even my PAM or PO, now the SFSO is back the Navi is 'off wrist'. Decisions, decisions!

Now that's a tricky situation. I had a similar conflict when I had my 2531.80 being repaired, and bought a 2220.80, and couldn't really decide which I prefered, so I came to the compromise of 2531.80 for a more 'everyday' watch, 2220.80 for more formal occasions. Of course, once my Planet Ocean 2900.50.91 came back, that didn't come off my wrist at all, and I couldn't stand to wear anything else. Ironically, the first PAM 111h I bought, even though it had to be returned due to a defective power reserve, I hardly even put on, but, a month or so later, and I really like my new one :)

Teejay, Good to hear that you've finally been infected with PAMophelia :D

The fun part is that I tend to wear my PAM when I'm dressed casual smart and that I wear my sporty watches when I'm wearing jeans. You're doing the exact opposite, hahaha.

And to answer your question, remember my SMP that I modded with gen dial, hands and new movement? I was so happy with this watch when it was finished. But I hardly ever had it on my wrist since I started wearing PAMs and it has been sold a few days ago...........

So welcome to the PAM addict support group! :1a:

I've always been a PAMophile, I was just 'in the closet' untill now  To me, there is something almost perverse and fetishistic about PAMs, compared to other watches. There are a couple of PAMs I want to get as part of my 'movie watches' collection, like the 1950 Orlando Bloom wore in Elizabethtown (with as similar a strap as possible), and the Chrono PAM worn by Jason Statham in the Transporter movies. From a comment he made on the commentary for the first movie, I got the impression that it was his own personal watch, rather than a wardrobe choice. From an interview I read with Orlando Bloom, I suspect that the 1950 was also his own personal watch, as he was wearing one during the interview.

I think the thing that's surprizing me, is how a week ago, I couldn't stand to take the Planet Ocean off, now, even though it is more comfortable to wear, I'm taking it off again in favor of the PAM  Curious indeed

  10. I bet this is quite a common occurence with folks with huge collections, but, I've really only just had it happen  My Planet Ocean Big Size was, until I got my PAM 111h, my favorite of my watches, and it seldom left my wrist. So much so, that even trying another watch on (such as the VC Overseas) gave me the feeling of 'getitoffgetitoffgetitoff!'. Now, I got my PAM as a casual wear watch, and I admit, I've been wearing jeans all week, so I kept it on. But. I just put the PO back on for a few moments, and decided to put the PAM back on  The PO is by far the superior watch... More comfortable case and strap (feels non-existent on my wrist compared to the PAM) has more accurate dial (as it has minute indices rather than just the '10 minute' markers) and, has more sentimental value, having been bought with inheritance money from my gran, although I have to admit, the size of the PAM dial does make it easier to read at a glance, even if not quite as 'precice to the minute'... A few days ago, I was confident that when I next wore a suit and shirt, I'd be putting my Omegas back on. Now, I'm not so sure... Has my PlanetOceanitis been cured and overtaken by PAMophelia?

Anyone else had this experience where your favorite is suddenly no longer your favorite?

  11. I always wear my watches low on my wrist (as in the wrist shots) so they are beneath the wrist bone. However, some are more comfortable this way than others. For example, my Planet Ocean Big Size is not even noticeable when moving my hand, but my PAM 111h is definitely noticeable when flexing my wrist. Tightness varies depending on strap or bracelet, but also material. SS Bracelets I will wear looser than straps, but, a rubber strap, I will wear looser than I will wear a leather strap. As mentioned above, I guess it's a matter of personal taste, and something that varies :)

  12. I have a 4th gen PO that I got from trustytime. I got it about 8 months ago and have been terrified of even getting rain on it. I have no idea about tightening the back case, putting silicon in etc (i'm quite new to this whole thing).

I take it from this thread that my PO should be fine in rain at least? And maybe even the pool? In what way do I tighten the back case...do I screw it in or push it or what?

Just make sure that it's screwed tightly shut. To get it really tight, you'll need a case wrench, although, I have been able to use two hexagonal screwdrivers (as from a jeweller's screwdriver set) to apply enough pressure (pressing in opposite directions) to screw the case back down really tight. Not quite as tight as a case wrench, but certainly too tight to undo by finger pressure. If you can get the caseback that tight, assuming the crown and HE valve have been properly sealed with O Rings and siliconed, you should be okay. That said, there have been incidents where watches from Andrew weren't waterproofed as promised. Personally, I wouldn't worry about rain, but, if you're concerned about bathing or swimming, taking it into an independant watchsmith (NOT an Omega AD :D ) for a pressure test and waterproofing might be an idea. It's not terribly expensive, and at least gives you peace of mind that it's not going to leak B)

  13. To be honest, I can't see the point in spending that kind of money on a rep. If it's to make it look genuine, as mentioned above, save the extra money and buy the real thing. At the end of the day, a rep will always be a rep, however heavily modified (Unless you swap 100% of the parts with genuine replacements) It might look nice, but it will never be genuine. Personally, I think the issue is really one of,a ) Do you want to tell people it's real, and have them believe you, or b ) Do you just want a watch which looks nice for your own personal pleasure? If it's the former, then you always run the risk of getting called out, and, if that happens in a social environment like a dinner or barbeque, that's going to be embarassing and leave your credibility in tatters. If it's the latter, then knock yourself out and enjoy the workmanship and skill which goes into modifications :) I like modifying watches and building Frankens as much as the next guy, and if someone wants to silently assume it's gen, then that's upto them, but, if asked, I would never tell someone a rep was genuine.

    [Edit to add]

thanks guys ...i think im going to start making moves and selling a few things on ebay to fund my gen. by next month ..

I think if perfection and 100% accuracy are your goal, that's probably the best way to go :) Best of luck with your sales and purchase :)

  14. No.

You might try setting the minute slowly backwards though. That sometimes helps.

Thanks, I had a feeling there wouldn't be, but thought I'd at least ask to see if there was some 'magic trick' to getting it to work :)

    [Edit to add]

I just tried slowly adjusting the minute hand backwards, and the second hand actually started tracking backwards, so I've managed to synchronize the time. My only concern, is that I've made the watch do something it wasn't supposed to do :mellow::huh:

  15. Silly question, I know, but something I was wondering about. Obviously with Omegas and Rolexes, pulling the crown out freezes the sweep of the second hand. This doesn't happen with PAMs though. Other than letting the watch run to a stop, and, re-setting the main hands, and then winding it so the second hand is right, is there any other way of actually zeroing the second sweep? I like my watches to be accurate, but with my 111h, am not too concerned about it's 'to the second' accuracy, as I don't know if it's even possible to set that timing aspect... Thanks in advance :)

    Thoughts:

    :yuk:

I'm tempted to get Emily a Destro as she really liked the PAMs which she's seen so far, but always found the crownguard bashed her hand (I have to admit, even wearing watches on my right wrist where it's not a problem, my 111h is less comfortable against my wrist than my Planet Ocean Big Size...) so I thought it might be an idea for her. However, she seldom, if ever, takes off the HBB Aspen, so I'm not too sure it's worth it...

PS I wear pink shirts every now and again :) My current pink shirt is a sadly watered-down wishywashy pink which is barely above off-white. My favorite pink shirt was a deep salmon color, but that got printer ink on it so was totally ruined :(

  17. Thanks, TeeJay.

I knew we were out of the woods, in terms of his dizziness and heart irregularity, when he asked the nurse to put on the Korea-Sweden match. :)

I approve! But please check your PM. It's out of stock. :(

And actually, I like a bit of tail on mine. Strange that the girl should like tail, and the boy, not. :)

That's fantastic news :) I trust he enjoyed the match :)

I'm glad you approve :) PM sent ;)

    Edit to add

Indeed, it's strange. I don't mind rubber straps having the length, but prefer leather straps to 'just' do up. With the 111h in it's 'resting position', the excess tongue doesn't come any further than the bottom edge of my wrist.

  18. Good show. :)

Just got home, will eat, and rest for a while -- dad is thankfully better and should come home tomorrow. Thanks for the PM, TeeJay!

Will get you the shipping details from TWP by tomorrow. ;)

That's great news about your dad :) No problem at all, and thanks again for such a generous offer :) I hope you approve of the choice of strap, it was the closest to the strap on my dad's Aqua Terra, and, the right length, as I think some of the 130mm straps would come round the wrist too far. I don't mind my Planet Ocean strap coming round, but for some reason, don't like it when leather straps do that

  19. Lanikai, you're wonderful!!

TeeJay, you have done a lot for me. So here's the deal. I'm not going accept "no", so don't bother replying like that.

Go to Strapculture.com. Choose ANY strap you want. PM me with the details, and it's on me (don't worry, TWP has a 25% off discount). Shipping as well.

You deserve it, little buddy! :)

    (Research well, now!)
