  1. Just got my rubber strap from a member, i used the pins from the metal strap and it stays really good in it's place, i'm happy..

    here are some pics.... ;)

Looking good :1a: Personally, I just don't think a Planet Ocean looks right if it's not on a rubber strap  The first exposure I had to the watch was in Casino Royale, so that's how I tend to think it should look :D

  2. I haven't found that to be the case in life. :(

Haven't you seen people who are tough as nails, but who are boasts, bullies, and just plain...well, assholes?

Think of any TOP professional athlete (not the average one, like Beckham), and I can only think of Sir Don Bradman, Jack Niklaus, and Wayne Gretzky, who are humble people. The rest, assholes.

    Lance Armstrong. A-hole.

    Michael Jordan. A-hole.

    Tiger Woods. A-hole.

The same is true of businessmen (indeed, especially businessmen), and professionals. There are rare exceptions, like my own father, and probably a few on this forum, but I've noticed that the most aggressive men go ahead.

And humility and aggression rarely go hand-in-hand, IMHO.

It's always been my experience that the worst bullies are actually the most inadequate and plagued by self-doubt. I can understand the attitude of millitary pilots as they, by the nature of their occupation, must be able to do their job, and get people to follow their orders without question. Now, while I'd be the first to admit, a more easygoing approach does tend to get better responses from 'underlings', there are times, particularly in the millitary, where an order must be followed precicely and immediately. If someone where to feel that their every command would be second-guessed, or that subordinates felt that they could question orders, they would be ineffective in commanding those beneath them. That's not an attempt to excuse such attitudes, just an opinion on why it is necessary that they have them, and, when someone is trained to have such a persona, it can be very hard to 'switch off'... Something else which contributes to (in any field) the '[censored] factor', is the chips some people have on their shoulders. Those who feel that they 'dragged themselves up by their bootstraps', and struggled as 'the outsider' so are morally superior to the 'upper-class numpties' who had success handed to them, almost by birthright, absolute and utter assholes. Nothing worse than a self-righteous prig with a chip on their shoulder about 'their roots'. And back to the millitary watches... :D

  3. Most specifically, the ones he wore in Torchwood and Doctor Who. I was watching ep Two of Torchwood last night, and it appeared similar to an Air-King/Aqua Terra, black dial, on black leather strap, with no datewheel or cyclops. In the episode of Doctor Who where he re-joins the Doctor's company, he was again wearing a similar watch, but there was a definite cyclops on the crystal. From his hosting appearances, I've noticed he favors Rolexes, and wondered if indeed he was wearing one of his own watches, on a different strap, for filming... Great actor, and from what I've seen of his hosting appearances, a genuinely nice, and funny guy.

  4. I'm still wearing my PAM 111h, and decided to make it my 'holiday watch' for when I go to Spain in november, as, with the second hand not stopping, it'll be easy to roll it forwards an hour, so I need to order an SS bracelet for it so it doesn't matter if it gets wet. I could try and track down the rubber strap (not the one with Panerai on it, but the plain strap) but I'm not too keen on that, and think SS would be the better choice. I saw someone wearing a 45mm Planet Ocean earlier today. It had the correct strap, but couldn't get a close enough glance to tell for sure

  5. It is Seiko SQ100 Pilot chrono, the one had have for gulf 1 was better though it had a white face and digital chrono so i could write the main details of fire plans in the face with a fine lumicolour (sharpie for the Americans) no mater what happened i would know where not to be at the wrong time as it was around my neck and if i lost that i had nothing to worry about any way.

Wow, I would not have guessed it was a Seiko, it has a real IWC look about it. A fine watch, and clearly one which served you well :)

  6. My war watch

this has earned its rest in the box, its seen sand and snow good times and many bad and i wont wear it again untill i have to, and that is hopefully never!

I'm not normally a fan of chrono watches, but that looks really nice. Who is the manufacturer?

  7. The POS label I put on it refered as much to problems (OK, I'll start a partial list...lots of backlash in the bezel, bezel not lining up correctly, caseback engraving all wrong, caseback a screw off with faux screws, very loose analogue hands with backlash/impossible to hack accurately, analogue and digital quartz movements that are very innaccurate and will not run in synchronicity) as to fidelity. Not to mention the fact that this is supposed to be a titanium watch etc...you are welcome to your opinion...but this disaster is worth every bit of the $65 it sells for.

I'd agree with all those flaws 100% My point was taking into account that some people want a rep to have 100% fidelity/zero flaws, and in those stakes, yes, it is definitely a POS, and that if someone wants a 100% rep, they'll likely be very disappointed with it. If, however, they're just after something that 'looks about right' (certainly passable to the general public) and aren't too concerned about the flaws you mention, then indeed, they can't go wrong buying it. Given the analogue runs faster than the digital, it's just a case of pulling the crown out for a few seconds each day to re-synchronize the displays. To be honest, it's not a watch I'd want to wear most of the time, as the alarm is totally inadequate, and I figure if I'm going to wear something, I want to be able to use the functions, but, as a watch to put on every now and again, then it's more than adequate :)

  8. Interesting story from both keith and bell~

    Thanks for sharing~

I have walked into AD once wearing my SMP Chrono......and they had NO freaken idea that it was a rep.....

You will be surprised by how many of these AD salesmen are not as knowledgable as they should be....

Sadly, that is scarily accurate throughout the entire retail industry. I don't think anything bugs me more than when an assistant doesn't have a clue about the products they sell, whatever that product may be.

  9. I'd say I'm pretty happy with my collection ^_^

A Predfan said, Rolex, in the minds of most of the viewing public, = Fake, but other than that, I'm quite happy to wear any of my (working ) reps in public. Most people don't know enough about watches to question if they're real or not, or even notice. I tend to not wear my Rolexes now, because I just think they're too small, rather than for fear of being called out in one, and because my tastes have moved on to Omega and Panerai. As mentioned in another thread, I think a lot of the trouble people have being called out is a projection of their own concerns, rather than an all-knowing public.

Going back to my collection, I can't say I'm totally happy with it, as there are still watches I want to aquire for it, so I don't view it as complete, so that takes away from me being 'totally happy' with it as a collection. I am, however, totally happy with what I have :)

  10. Alant, nothing personal naturally, I am just deadly bored with the 111 frenzy.

To me, the 111 is the most boring PAM ever.

    After the 112, obviously.

Oh, I told it at last! :sweatdrop:

    Feeling better now... ^_^

I like boring  That's why the 112 was what I really wanted. I didn't want a datewheel, a second counter, GMT or power reserve functions, I just wanted a simple, uncomplicated Panerai. I'd say the 112 fits those criteria, with the 111 being a close second (due to second counter). 'Boring' is one phrase, another might be 'minimalist'

  11. Had it...love Omega reps...this one's a POS. Too many problems and flaws to list.

That just depends on your personal criteria and what you want it for.

If you want 100% fidelity to the gen, then absolutely, POS. If you want something that 'looks about right' and is good enough for knocking about the yard in, then it's fine.

  12. I had an interesting experience in a tourneau store a couple of weeks ago. I was wearing a RXW MM10 (PAM homage) and was asking if they had any aftermarket bracelets that would fit (I was looking for an oyster style with endpieces that would match the squared case). The salesman, initially making the assumption that it was a PAM, or just being polite, asked "so you don't want a genuine." I replied that the watch wasn't a PAM, but rather a homage and tried to explain a little of the history behind the RXW brand. Most of this seemed to be lost on him because he was obviously thinking replica.

He stepped backwards and to the side to confer with another salesman. Salesman two then stepped forward and said "so you are looking for a fake PAM band". At this point, I didn't think it was going to be worth the effort to reiterate that I was looking for an oyster band. I just replied that I didn't care who made it, I just wanted a metal bracelet for the watch. He told me that I might have more luck on ebay.

As this was occuring another salesman (salesman 3) walked up to the first salesman and they start whispering. Then salesmen one and three joined salesman two at the counter and salesman one introduces me to salesman three. They informed me that up until recently they (several of the salesmen in the store) were aware of a web page where you could buy extremely accurate "fakes" (their terminology). The web page was no longer up at that point.

Apparantly, quite a few of them had purchased replica PAMs that they wore when they weren't working. They said it all started when I customer came in to have his PAM worked on and it was sent back to Panerai for servicing. They said the watch was returned to the store with a note from Panerai that it was not a genuine PAM. The salesman said that this was unusual for a company to send back a fake, but that the note went on to say that the watch had fooled the service tech until he opened the case and realized it wasn't one of their watches. Impressed by the quality of the watch Panerai had supposedly sent it back to the store because they didn't want to destroy it. This last part of the story seemed a little far fetched. Has anyone here ever heard a story like that.

Wow, if any sales monkey ever spoke to me like that in a store, by Salesman 2, I'd've told tell them to go [censored] themselves and take my money elsewhere. To have heard horror stories is one thing, but to be so deliberately obnoxious to a customer, who, at the end of the day, is essentially paying their wages, is just totally unacceptable.

  13. The best place for rep clothing is here:

    CLICK ME!

    Oh.

    My.

    Gawd.

I am getting the sudden need for an entirely new wardrobe of shirts and suits, as well as seeing a rather nice messenger bag... My PS2 promotional freebie from when the console was first released has seen better days, and might need to be retired soon...

All I need now are the Queer Eye guys to tell me precicely what to wear, and I'm sorted :1a:

  14. So is the X-33 from silix worth buying ? I am considering it. Other than the crappy functions/bad alarm/clasp/braclet, is the watch itself of good quality ? comparison to the gen? How THICK is the X-33 ?

    Thanks ! :)

    PM Sent :)

  15. I've never really look on I-Offer, but found deals on CQout that were fantastic. Sure, they might not be "Super Reps", but they're as nice as the more standard reps offered by dealers like Silix, and at very competitive prices.

It should also be noted, that sites like I-Offer and CQout regulate their dealers, so any deals which go sour, can be reported and acted upon. If a deal with a "recommended collector" on this site goes sour, what options are there? Complain to the dealer? Complain about it on the forum? Neither of those options guarantees results or satisfaction. I'm not saying that all the collectors here are not to be trusted, and some of them do sell some fantastic watches. All I'm saying, is that if you're not after 100% fidelty to gen, don't want to pay a huge price, want something which would pass the scrutiny of the uneducated schmoes in the street and want security on a deal, then those sales sites are well worth a look.

Best of luck with your purchases :)
