  1. I think the rubberclad is more of a study in contrasts, where the SS has a pretty uniform, and, dare I say it, monotonous look... At the end of the day, it's just a matter of personal taste. For warmer weather, rubber and SS are prefereable over leather straps, and, personally, I'd say that SS straps look smarter than rubber straps, which do give a more sporty feel. Go with whatever seems most right for you, and you can't go wrong :good:

  2. Weariing a High end rep on your wrist can have it's down side also..

I was wearing .. my Zig modded 1680 Sub.. and went to the same filling station that I go to for minor pit stops.... I needed a new battery and favour the Interstate line of batteries..

The owner of the garage used to charge me a little above his cost ... Well I usually,.. if I'm wearing a Rolex rep that looks really good .. I take it off.. (for obvious reasons) .. but this time I forgot about it... and when I was talking to the owner of the station He glanced down at my wrist (in notable fashion ) ... I tend to "talk " with my hands a lot.. somewhat of a bad habit and has nothing to do with my timepiece .. I think I got it from all the time I spent with my training partners back in the day.. they're of Italian ancestry from NY ...

Anyway back on point ... as soon as he gave the 1680 a "look" I knew what was coming next... and I could of kicked myself for forgetting to put on a steelfish or my PO... yup .. he charged me "FULL RETAIL" for the battery.. and now has the seed planted in his mind that I can afford to pay alot more than he used to charge me..

Needless to say I found another place to do quick simple work ...

The Moral of the story:... At times the High end rep that looks too good may get you the attitude and the expectations of ... "If you have to ask how much it is then you can't afford it"...

Or worse you will look so tight that you squeak when you walk... when you give someone a hard time over prices, after all you could afford that Rolex on your wrist  ..... I don't know about you .. but I am a person that is used to paying wholesale for a lot of items..

Be care full what you ask for in these reps.. you just may get the whole ball of wax

    :lol::p:lol:

I guess if you work in that industry, getting goods at wholesale prices must be convenient, and, from the boards, I've come to realize that in the US, the 'ticket price', isn't necessarily the only price a seller will take for something.

Personally, I've always been of the opinion that "It costs what it costs (on the ticket)" and that if customers are given discounts too often, they come to expect it, and, I've always felt that in business, a seller should not feel obliged to offer discounts, which sometimes, some customers can give the impression of expecting.

It could just have been that his sales were a little low that week, and he couldn't afford to give you the wholesale price, equally, if he gave you 'a look', he might even have been offended that he'd given you discount for so long, if you could indeed afford to pay the full retail price, as he might have felt that there had been some kind of omission of the facts on your part. I don't know the guy though, so I can only speculate... Something else I've noticed, and, again, this could be a UK/US difference, is that the more well off people (old money families etc) are often the ones who will ask for (and seriously expect) a discount on a purchase, even if they are not a regular client, even though they are actually in the position to pay the full price... Then again, I guess if you don't ask, you don't get...

I guess it all just depends how one looks at things, and which side of the Pond one is on

  3. I believe so TJ, except this is a kit too -had a Ford engine in it. Nonetheless its very easy on the eyes!

Ah, fantastic :) Was it one you built yourself, or did you purchase it assembled? I watched a show on kit-cars a while back, and they interviewed someone with a kit-car version of a supercar (I forget which model it was) and to get the single blade windshield wiper with central positioning, they'd actually sourced a wiper and motor from an industrial digger  Even though I don't drive (yet) I think I'd enjoy a kit-car way more than any showroom brought marque, simply for the varation in parts used and whatnot :)

  4. Yes, because rape is funny.

    As funny as theft...

    [Edit to add]

No, of course rape is never funny. But. Neither is theft, and, anyone who abuses the trust placed in them, and steals things they are being paid to deliver, well, sorry, but I won't feel any sympathy should their time in prison be less than pleasant.

What I did find funny, (and was laughing about) is that someone would be stupid enough to risk such consequences by committing a crime which will be seriously punished (as mentioned, in the US, this is a federal offence, so likely harsher sentancing than someone caught shoplifting would receive), which they would be made aware of, as terms of their employment. If someone is that stupid and greedy, then they deserve whatever's coming to them.

  5. Yep, it is a serious federal offense.

Hee hee, something tells me that the postie with the sticky fingers is going to soon be buying lots of soap on a rope, and making friends with someone called 'Bubba' ;) All for the price of a stolen watch... The judge should allow them to keep it though, so they can use it to track the time of their incarceration B)

  6. Tudor Monte Carlo today -sorry for the crappy pix but it was taken from my Blackberry.

An extra shot of the background that happened to be at my mechanics shop today while I was getting an oil change.

    IMG00021c.jpg

Would I be right in thinking that's the same model Ferrari as in Ferris Bueller's Day Off? (Or rather, the model Ferrari the movie car was supposed to be ;) )

  7. I remember watching a UK documentary a few years back about how thefts and mail losses were occuring in one of the main city depots (I think one of the sub-areas of London, but can't honestly remember for sure...)

One problem, was that temporary staff, were being given duties which policy dictated they should not be doing. For example, someone had to be working for the post office for X amount of time before being allowed to do mail deliveries. These temps were being allowed to do mail deliveries on their first day. This was compounded by the fact that, as migrant workers, their grasp of English was somewhat 'tenuous', and many loads of mail were simply being dumped in public litter bins rather than being delivered. Other footage showed other temp workers stealing letters and small parcels from the sorting office, if they thought there might be contents of value.

Needless to say, I've never had much faith in mail companies, even though I've never yet (jinxed it now  ) had mail coming to me, or being sent by me stolen or tampered with... That said, my mum did once order a picture frame which arrived with the glass cracked. Inspection of the box, showed boot prints where someone had jumped on the parcel with both feet. I don't think I'll ever understand that kind of mentality.

With regards the missing goods mentioned here, am I right in thinking that tampering with the US Mail is considered a federal offence, with heavy punishments? If so (I mean, I hope so  ) then whoever has had sticky fingers, will well and truly wind up getting their ass handed to them, legally speaking, once they're identified and caught ;)

  8. TeeJay, thanks for the pics -- and you are absolutely right, that white small seconds hand is a shame.

I found I happen to have a black hand in my parts box. PM me your mail address and I'll send you it.

    PM Sent :)

Teejay yours is look pretty good

Part of my debarcle can be seen here

Basically did a silly deal on iOffer and got sent a totally different watch to what I wanted and have ended up with a 113 of sorts.

    Nice Faceish!

    Terrible Back

    p6112249eq5.jpg

I don't want to hijack your thread dude, but I got a solid D series case back from a member here and I'm trying to put a 003 together I suppose. Purchased a new crown as the one it had was virtually smooth (no teeth) but have had tube and stem issues. Basically I feel its like some sort of cursed watch but I'm determined to right it somehow, and selvedge it to something wearable. But its costing me mucho $$$$$

    Watch this space I guess

    ST4

Thanks :) In all fairness, yours has the more accurate dial, so you're definitely going to wind up with a very nice 113 when you're completed :) Best of luck with the project :)

    Nice looking watch TJ.

I also agree that this would look stunning on a SS strap.

    Good luck with the wedding.

Love the watch idea with the best men !

    Thanks :)

  9. Nice watch bro :) It looks great on you, I think it will look even better on SS. This one is made for the SS :)

Thanks, bro, I really do like how it looks, as it makes such a difference to the black-dialled PAMs I have (or had :D ) You're absolutely right about it looking better on SS though. When I tried lining up the bracelet from my 104, it looked really sharp, the only problem, was the screw bars wouldn't even go past the first lug  I'm sure I'll be able to do a dial/movement transplant into my old 111h case though, and then it'll be good to go on both SS and straps, the only slight downside, is that the 111h case is brushed, rather than polished. I like how both cases look, and personally, feel the brushed case goes better with the SS bracelet, as it makes the bezel, CG and semi-circles on the bracelet all stand out more as 'accents', but, I know the 113 should have the polished case :D Oh well, I think losing out on the polished case will be a worthwhile sacrifice to get it on an SS bracelet

  10. My 113 is my first ever white dialled watch. My VCO doesn't count as 1) The dial was off-white, and 2) I never bonded with it so gave it away. I have to admit, I've grown really attached to it really quickly, even though it has several glaring flaws (such as a white second sweep hand :D ) The white dial looks slightly larger than the black counterparts, but I know that this is an optical illusion because of the colors. Although the white dial watches, I feel, at least, make nice dress watches, there is also something incredibly casual about them. Black looks good for either, but is 'always on duty'. White dial, under a cuff, looks smart, white dial, sleeves rolled up, and it is 'off duty'.

I'm really glad I bought mine, and would encourage any other PAM enthusiast to add a white dial to their collections :good:

  11. Hi Guys,

Just to chime in on my PAM 113 experience. I recently assembled my PAM 113 through various parts sources.

Movt: Asian SN + dagger movement (Originally from my PAM 183 - It just stopped working one day, thot it was dead so I ordered another 183 from my fav dealer). But while playing around with it, it became alive but with another 183 on the way. I saved the movt for a future project (This case, a PAM 113)

Dials and hands: Decided on Davidsen. His lume is good. Value for money and I think he got his hands down right. Lume on his dial somewhat disappointing. Maybe the the surface area is just too small.

Cannon Pin: Davidsen. Though I might have gotten shortchanged there.....I later found a cheaper source on the internet.

Case: From an Asian Pam 111h sourced from my dealer. Movement and parts saved for messing around.

It was all going smoothly , hands installed and and was fixing the last movement retainer when the flat bit fell into the movement and refused to come out. Nudged with a screwdrive and the piece lodged itself nicely in the movement. All thanks to my butter fingers.

I had to disassemble the whole movt... remove the offending metal piece and reassemble the movtment. This was possible thanks to Shundi who posted a clip on the 6497 movement. Absolute lifesaver. Thanks Shundi

2 hours later, my PAM 113 was born. Not the most perfect rep I have but surely the one that I appreciate the most.

I'd post pics but my camera skills suck.....

    Thanks for reading...

    Cheers

    Siesta

Sounds like an awesome project :):good:

    Thanks, amico!

    No problem :)

TJ! Great choice my friend! You're not planning to wear this on your wedding, are you???? LOL! :D

I love mine so much, I've bought five straps for it already! Mine came from Ztech and it was an excellent deal!

A friend of ours here might even come up with another 113 out of that deal. i guess he's still working on that

project! I'm waiting for him to post some pictures one day! ;)

Good luck and wear that beauty will!

    Hike

Thanks, I have to admit, it's really grown on me in the past 24 hours :D I'm still not planning on having it as a 'daily beater', but, it might get a bit more wrist time than I originally anticipated

Indeed, I am seriously considering it as my wedding watch, especially if I can get back my old 111h and perform the dial/movement transplants so I can wear it on the SS bracelet ;) The PP really does look nice, but, having seen DemonSlayer's comparison photos, I think the dial is a little too small for my requirements. That said, I might still order a trio of white dialled PPs for my best men, that way, they'll be matching, we'll all have a 'theme' of white on SS, but I'll still be slightly different :)

Pics are on their way ;)

Hey TJ, I am very keen on whote faced PAMs.

It would be good if you could post some pics - thanks !

    :thumbsupsmileyanim:

Well, with all the requests, I can hardly refuse :D Here's some 'quick n dirty' pics of it. If anyone's wondering about the extreme angle shots, I was trying to capture the 'smudge' I mentioned, but, it hasn't been captured... Just shows how 'noticeable' it actually is :D Sorry for the blurry shot of the movement, I'll try and get some better ones taken at another point :)

    [Edit to add]

The buckle shown is one I've had for a while, it came on the original strap of the Radiomir I bought for my friend's birthday earlier in the year, which wound up on a 26mm rubber strap, with deployant clasp. It goes really well with this strap and watch though :)

  12. Congrats, wear it well!

And thanks for the detailed report. Nice to know of a new good performance by Tony.

Is the swan neck the dagger type?

Would you mind to post a few shots? Of the movement back especially?

Thanks, amigo :) I'll be sure to post some photos, as soon as I'm able. The swan neck isn't the dagger type, but needle-shaped. I'll be sure to include lots of movement shots when I do get the photos ;)

congrats TJ, I wan't to keen on white dials but I'm slowly changing my mind, Got my 113 from Deltick last week, I will post some pics as well in a while

Thanks :) I have to admit, I'm really liking the white dial. I can't see it being a 'regular wear' watch, but I do think it's very nice :)

    Some Pictures please

I myself have recently ventured in to the white pam area, sounds like your transaction was much more successful than mines turning out to be.

    Enjoy

    ST4

As soon as I've got the spare time, I'll get some posted :) Sorry to hear your transaction's not going well, if you don't mind me asking, who's the dealer, and what issues are you facing? I hope they get resolved quickly and smoothly :)
