  1. @ TEEJAY, thanks for the kind words. back when I wore her alot, I was doing alot of downhill mountain bike racing. I sold most of my automatic watches and wore this one since it is quartz. Racing would take a toll on any automatic watch. I also like that it is Ti. weights close to nothing. the eco drive is another good thing, the entire face is the solar cell.

Any other ecodrive diver owners on the board?

You're very welcome, a gorgeous watch is a gorgeous watch, regardless of the name on the dial, or the cost on the price tag, and that is indeed, a gorgeous watch :):good:

    Yesterday, I posted this...

For me, just a quick and dirty pic. Same watch as before, I think it's glued on  Fitting though, as the strap was a christmas present last year ^_^

    DSCN0545.jpg

I think the glue came unstuck, as today, I'm wearing this

    DSCN0548.jpg

Also, that's not a table cloth my wrist is resting on, but the garment I'm wearing  My father in law bought me back a full set of Saudi clothes for christmas, which he bought while working in Riyadh a month ago, and that is a galabiyya ^_^

  2. An early xmas gift from the post man. This was my wedding present from the wife. Bought in St. Thomas on 12/31/1999. Just back from Citizens with new movement, new seals, and pressure testing (200m and they sent the printout from the test along with the watch) total repair cost, $105. unreal. Happy holidays all.

    I LOVE THE BEZEL...

    DSCN1117.jpg

TORCH LIKE LUME. (this was taken after 15 seconds of charging under a desk lamp with a flourescent bulb.)

    DSCN1123.jpg

I may try to find a Ti breitling bracelet for it... man it is a good day :)

Awesome watch :good: I'd definitely agree that the bezel insert is one of the highlights :good:

  3. I was just wondering (although I suspect it's probably a fantasy model).

I have to admit, as much as I like the blue bezel of the 2531.80, I think that works because of the blue dial... Maybe if the markers weren't blue as well... I don't know... I'm half and half on this one...

This combination was born from your suggestion, against my collection. Was a fav pseudo-formal, but have since gifted off the watch as I can not reasonably pull off TT, saved the Croc of course -_- and it's back on the GMTII black bezel...............

Those photos bring back some memories ^_^ I still have the Daytona which I tried strap swapping with, but it hasn't seen wrist time in over a year. I think in the end, the hands just weren't really clear enough for my preference. I'm sure the watch was well received :)

  5. thanks for the comments guys. the contrast stitching has started to grow on me. its actually quite subtle cause its has a greyish tone rather than being full white. i don't think i'll be using the sharpie anymore :).

as for getting a oem buckle/deployment, i'll probably do that sometime in the future. the deployment i bought with the strap just doesn't do it for me.

damn i love this strap :D.

No problem, and I'm glad you like the strap :) I think an OEM buckle or deployment would make a lot of difference, to be honest, the ones fitted to aftermarket straps are often pretty cheap quality. Functional, for sure, but not really 'up to the job' with such a high-end watch ;)

  6. My bad, Understood.

    Sos TeeJay me old mucker!

Pop over for your Apology Pint ;)

Good to see you think like me on the strap front, I knew exactly which one you were on about!

    :D

As in PM, no problem, amigo :)

I'm sure we'll meet up at a GTG at some point, so you're on :good:

Well, there was just a 'certain look' to watches of that era, and that strap always stuck in my mind for that era, so I figured what better way to go, than by keeping it true to the original era ;)

  7. The Planet Ocean should look fine on your wrist. From my own experience, I'd think that, if the top lugs were in line with the knuckle of your little finger, the bottom lugs would be lining up somewhere between your middle, and index fingers, with about 1-2 cm of strap/bracelet showing from the base lugs, to where it curves round your wrist. The Planet Ocean is an awesome watch, probably one of, if not my favorite watch design. I don't think you'd regret buying one :)

  8. Who'm I trying to kid? I can't keep this from you guys, even in it's unfinished state

Okay, please excuse the tape and marker, and try and focus on the contrast between the brushed and polished areas ^_^

    The original (Sterling Silver):

    DSCN0523.jpg

Which made me think of (Engraved Naquadah):

    stargate_texturetest.jpg

    So realized as (Brushed Titanium):

    DSCN0543.jpg

As above, once the additional lines are engraved, I'll post some really decent shots B)

  9. Well, nearly

The company which the jeweller sourced the production to, didn't realize just how precicely I wanted the engraved pattern on my engagement ring replicated, so instead of using the design, they did something similar... At first, for a few moments, I was pretty annoyed, because I had wanted something specific. However, the ring itself, does look the nuts ^_^ The engravings look larger than their actual size due to reflection and optical illusion, so, adding too many more (ie the original and correct pattern :p ) would actually detract from the overall appearance, as, rather than looking like a brushed ring with engravings, it would just look like a ring which had been very chopped into  So, the compromise we've come to, because the company have already closed for christmas, is that I bought the ring home, drew on the additional lines I want engraved, then take it back after christmas, and they will get the lines added (maybe a few days maximum turnaround, as the ring itself was manufactured in 2-3 ) I could take it back in tomorrow, but, as the company is closed over christmas, it would just be sitting in the jeweler's safe...

Anyway, I've drawn on the additional lines, and wrapped it in tape to prevent the marker getting rubbed off, so I'll take some photos once it's been re-finished and I can show it in the proper way :)

Other than that, I can only say that this ring looks awesome. It fits my finger perfectly (well, it was sized for me  ) and looks great :) It's brushed Titanium, with high-polished 'V cut' lines engraved 1mm wide, and 1mm deep through it. I knew that the lines would be highlights compared to the main finish, but what I wasn't expecting, was the finish of the lines means that rather than the entire, or even partial, line 'lighting up' when it catches the light, it looks almost like tiny beads of Mercury running through the channels B) I can't express how cool it looks, and I have a feeling that photography might not fully capture it's full awesomeness, but, once it's back from re-finishing, I'll certainly try B)

    [Edit to add]

Just to clarify, when I first opened the box, my immediate reaction was one of astonishment. My annoyance probably lasted about a millisecond in real time, as I realized that too much engraving would detract from the brushed surface, and, without the brushed surface, the contrast wouldn't be as striking, so that few moments of annoyance quickly reverted to appreciation :)

  10. It's a rule, not a suggestion.

Don't use real names on these forums unless the author signs his/her public posts with his/her name.

I have to admit, I didn't know that it was actually a rule, but given the nature of our hobby, I guess I shouldn't be surprised... For me, it's just having seen the lengths which sadacts will go to to track folks down, I try and stay incognito ;)

  11. TeeJay

If this is the one your on about, then I feel ****ing sick.......because I think your right, it would have looked better.....LMAO!

    BOLL**X!!

    Img708.jpg

The one that WAS on it when he gave it to me is a metal version of the above with a tissot clasp, its solid stainless bent into into a wrist shape like a solid bracelet, pretty cool but 18mm, the lugs on the watch were 20mm

    so it looked to skinny.

    Holy [censored], I found it!

This is the watch that must have worn the bracelet in the first place!!!

The strap that I have in the box is like the silver one on middle watch.......seems to be off a Tissot Pr516 Series, so maybe he had one of those too!

Might try and fine a body for the strap, and restore that then give it to him next year......that would be kinda cool.

    http://www.sometimeago.com/staext/GetImage...efix=1217941461

Gonna find the watch now and fit it back!

    :D

I'd love to know what came on the BWC one as standard back then.

Bet it looked like a right load of rubbish!

Yup, those're the straps I was thinking of. I admit, not something I particularly like the look of, but, that is the look for watches of that vintage, so from that point of view, I'd make the exception to 'keep it real' ;)

On a totally unrelated not, and not meaning to sound like an ass, but I prefer not to have my name used on open forum, as I've previously seen the lengths cyberstalkers will go to to track someone down ;) To be honest, I've only ever seen members who's names aren't in their usernames, referred to by initial, and, as one of the most influential people in my life only ever referred to me as T, you'd be in very esteemed company, my friend ;)

  12. Mate...for V2.2...you can have a total of 9 pages worth of apps...including the native iPhone apps. Once all the 9 pages are full...anything you install won't show up....you need to delete some apps to install new ones.

Heard that apple will remove this limitation/increase page count in some future versions.

    Cheers

That's not bad :) I have to admit, I did wonder if there was a limit to how many apps could be downloaded, but even so, that is a lot

v2.0 crapped out at around 64 apps. This was fixed.

That's quite a step up in capacity :) Does the 3G have an even higher capacity?

Maybe twice in 4 months I guess

Hmm, that's an average of once every two months... I guess considering how much a phone is actually used, it's not a lot, but, while it's worrying to know that this potential issue exists, it's good to know that it's easy to fix :)

  13. That's an absolutely awesome watch, amigo :):good: And yes, I have a strap recommendation  It's not even the kind of strap which I would like for myself, but, I think it would be absolutely perfect for a watch of this look and vintage...

One of those brown leather straps, with the 'holes' punched through the upper part of the straps. I think they call them 'racing straps' or something like that... As above, I'm not over keen on them, but, it would look so good with that watch :good:

  14. i got my strap today, heres a pic.

    3129487273_6eec6ed4ce.jpg

i'm pretty happy with it, looks alot like the fifty fathoms strap i wanted :). the strap is by hirsch. i might sharpie the stitching if i feel adventourous.

It looks awesome :) I would suggest against taking a sharpie to the stitching, simply because, a black strap with white stitching, even if it's not crocodile, can still look sharp with smart clothes (picks up on the white shirt or pin stripes in the suit ;) ) so I'd say keep it as it is :good: That said, if you wanted to make it look really bitchin', order an OEM Omega buckle (or deployant) and replace the factory-installed one ;) I did that on an Aqua Terra I customized for my dad last year, and changing the buckle, made a lot of difference to the strap :) It made an aftermarket strap, appear to be OEM :):good:
