  1. Still wearing the One Eight Something... Really liking it...

Here's a quick and dirty pic of it

    [Edit to add]

Yes, I know the NESW markers should be raised... I kept feeling them scrape when I wiped the crystal, figured it was only time before they caught on clothing/skin/something, and either did damage, or fell off randomly, so I used a razorblade to pry them off, and then the edge of a small screwdriver to polish the indentations back to a reasonable finish.

I know the watch isn't perfect, I know that there are only three things correct about it, but I really like it. A review will follow in the near future, insha'allah.

  2. Yep, that's correct.

I had a feeling it should've been that size... Oh well, yet another area of flawed replication

it amazes me time and time again how big this watch actually really is ... monster watch ;)

    Laz

I must've got the runt of the litter

  3. Well, my One Eight Something arrived today  I have to admit, I was concerned that the case/dial ratio might have bothered me, but, in all honesty, it doesn't (maybe there's hope for the Breitling SOSF afterall  ) But. I would have to point out that the smaller dial is noticeably smaller, and a little trickier to read than my 127 (which now has a deployant fitted to the dive strap  )

About the watch itself... Clearly inspired by the 187, I think 'inspired by' is the only suitable word. The case is 44mm, with 24mm lugs. I believe the correct dimensions should be 47mm with 26mm (Yes/no?) It has a quartz movement with functioning stopwatch. The '3' subdial, rather than running with the stopwatch, runs in synch with the main hands as a 24 hour counter.

The printing of the dial, is gorgeous. The lettering is all done with equal print pressures, and totally uniform. No spelling errors on either the dial or the caseback. The bezel has NESW points rather than the correct time markers, but, not really an issue. The quality of the lume appears reasonable :) The watch also survived being run under a very strong tap without hint of condensation or flooding. Perfect for when I'm next kayaking down the Amazon and hacking through rain forest in search of Lost Civilizations ;)

Overall, I'm really impressed with it. It might not be intended as a daily beater, but, I think it will get regular rotation. Probably not suitable for someone wanting an accurate 187, but a nice watch in it's own right. I might track down an accurate 187, not so much for the sake of accuracy, but because the different details would be a nice option.

Life's pretty hectic for me at the moment, but I'll try and get some pics taken when possible :)

  4. Wrap the watch round your fist like a knuckle-duster, smack them hard round the jaw, then yell "Did that feel fake to you, b1tch?!?!?!"

    :lol::lol::lol::lol:

    I'm joking, of course ;)

As above, if someone simply says "Nice watch..." Then a "Thanks..." Is all that's required. If They're asking if it's fake to try and ridicule you in public, that's when you can always ask "What makes you think that?" and get them to cite points. Of course, if it's a genuine enquiry, then it doesn't hurt to explain that it's a replica of XYZ watch.

As Pugwash pointed out before when this topic came up: No matter if someone is making a lucky guess, being a jerk or genuinely interested, at the end of the day, they are right: The watch is a replica, and to claim otherwise would be a lie.

    Welcome to the party :)

  5. I have said before that I am watching EuroTimez and I am sure that at some point I am going to order a watch from him. This thread spurred me to look at his subforum again. I had said some time ago that a smart dealer would be taking advantage of this forum to get suggestions from his clients - what better way to improve your customer satisfaction and repeat business and thus your own profits? Dealers who listen to members here have EVERYTHING to gain.

So I found a new "Suggestion Box" (linked below) in his forum and I not only feel that the dealer we have been waiting for may be on our doorstep, but also that anyone here who really wants to have superior service (even those who hold tight to the belief that it will never happen) should take advantage and make any useful suggestions they can think of to EuroTimez here. We have nothing whatsoever to lose:

    http://www.rwg.cc/members/index.php?showtopic=72451

I predict that little by little this guy is going to begin to erode the sales of many of the "trusted" dealers commonly used by members of these forums. When that happens they will either accept the loss of sales or they will copy EuroTimez in order to remain competitive (at least among the members of the various forums). But they will not succeed in maintaining the same level of sales without changing their behaviour. The biggest advantage of free markets is their Darwinian nature.

The fact that EuroTimez QC's and now offers a suggestion box is proof that our voices count. If we lie down and take the poor service and poor QC and say, "well it's China, it's illegal, they're fakes, you're a noob and just need to accept that there's nuthin we can do about it", well, THAT attitude is the one that will GUARANTEE that nothing ever changes.

No revolution was ever waged in silence.

Couldn't've said it better myself. I also predict great things for EuroTimez :)

  6. That's the idea, to help and inform the community. I figure I'm already in this crappy deal, let me ride it out and get more intel. I can then pass on the info to the community and maybe help in the process. I would love to post that DSN has delivered a quality product so that everyone can be happy, let's wait and see.

Absolutely :) Here's fingers crossed for a positive resolution :)

  7. Don't want to sound too cynical - in the real world I'm a very optimistic guy - but a special forum will only show what we already know: all collectors have issues somewhere in time. At one time it's collector A, the other time it's collector B. So banning collectors based on their poor QC will only result in a forum without collectors at all. No matter how good the intentions of the collector, he always have to work with what the factory delivers and they seem to have all the power....

So in the end it's the after sales what makes the difference.

I agree, that all dealers will eventually have a deal go south for no real fault of theirs, and in such circumstances, yes, after sales is what makes the difference. But. The thing which I believe UJ is talking about, and as myself and others commented on in a thread about Joshua's handling of a situation (which sounded top notch on his part), buyers shouldn't have to build relationships with a dealer just so they don't get garbage, they should get reasonable (for the hobby) quality from the outset. By all means, give special treatment or favors to people who have proven themselves good clients, but in the main, even a new buyer deserves a basic level of respect. Sure, some dealers drop-ship and some don't. Personally, I don't care if a dealer drop-ships or not, providing they drop-ship what is ordered, and are prepared to make exchanges should there be an issue. What I don't like, is dealers who use QC as an excuse for sitting on orders, but never actually QC the goods as they are drop-shipping... Indeed, lynching someone over a single transaction is unreasonable, but, when such things start to form a pattern (and to be honest, with several 'recommended collectors' they have ) that's when the forum admins should step in and say "We run these forums to protect buyers, not to protect you as sellers, the community of these forums is not for you to poach on, but to offer reasonable services." and make them pull their ideas up, where sadly, at the moment, very little is done beyond pulling individual sales, not totally revoking dealer privelages. As before, someone shouldn't get barred the instant someone says "My Best Swiss Bolex leaks like a seive!!1", but, if enough people with similar issues are making reports, that's when the admins ought to step up to the mandate which these forums operate under: To inform and protect buyers from scammers and rip-off merchants.

  8. UPDATE:

I finally heard back from DSN. I has asked for a refund in my last email but said I would rather take the watches if they were of better quality. He replied the watches would be ready to ship next week, but also asked how much he owed me if I decide on the refund. Now, I think a refund is the safer bet, but it would not help the community. I will see :bangin: what his replacements are like and post it here. I hope that he's settled his QC problems ..... more to come.

Interesting decision, but certainly the most easy going. If the watches come through and are up to par, you'll have had the goods you paid for. If they're not up to scratch, you can still send them back and ask for the refund then. Taking the refund initially, would mean missing out the opportunity to see what the replacements are like. Smooth move B):good:

  9. WOW :tu: perfectly said, I have to give you  on your honesty. He's just getting :greedy: and this lack of QC will most likely  in his face. I just hope that if he bails from his sinking :boat: he doesn't leave us :cc_hang: or out in the :cold: . Recent posts have given me an  for a new forum to :busted_cop: collector problems. Moderators would then be able to :boxing: for the community. I would be the :1a: to volunteer, and I'm sure I could find a :2a: and :3a: to help.

We need to stop being :2: and :band1: together now. Hey, some of us here save for a while to get an expensive rep and then take a :black_eye: , that's not right. Collectors who don't respect the community should be :ban:!

I also want to say that I'm NOT a voilent person and it took me longer to write this post than it did to make my first child ;)

I agree completely. Whatever you've got planned, you can count on my support :)

  10. I don't have a wristshot yet, insha'allah, I'll get some tomorrow, but, since last night, and, certainly until this hot spell cools down, I'll be wearing my new (less than perfect) 104 on SS. In terms of replication and manufacture, it's hardly the best (infact, the worst I've got) but, I look on it like the runt of the litter: Still deserving of attention, love and a good home (which I'm happy to provide) ^_^

  11. Rather than trying to affect the dealers directly, maybe an indirect approach would work better... Rather than folks donating money when the forums require it, or renewing subscriptions out of goodwill, if a large enough group was to say "We will not financially support this forum unless X, Y and Z dealer are removed, because of their poor dealings with Clients A, B and C", maybe the various admins would find the loss of support from the members, unacceptable by comparison to the amount that dealers pay to be allowed to deal...

Personally, I'm more than happy to contribute financially to this forum, as I have gained much from it, most of which, one is unable to quantify with a price tag, but, I'm just wondering, if the dealers knew that they'd be losing out on the easy sales which these forums bring, it might encourage them to pick their ideas up...

    Just an idea...

  12. Awesome collection there :) Likewise, I'd be interested to know how you removed the lettering from the California. I've removed lettering from the dial of an Omega Aqua Terra before, using electrician's tape, and that lifted the printing clean off. I only wonder, as I'm thinking about sterilizing the dial of my 127.

  13. Awesome review :) I bought a lighter from Ken, as a Christmas present for my Dad last year. Turned out, he'd given up smoking some 15 months before  Either way, I was really impressed with the lighter, and have been meaning to get myself something similar since. I don't smoke, but, for some reason, I find it really awkward if someone asks me for a light, and I don't have one. Talk about a crazy kind of peer pressure

Sorry for rambling off topic, top review :)

  14. We (Some of the members over at RWG1) have reason to believe that the person who started this thread is actually one of the old original members using another identity and just having some fun....Demsey....

Wouldn't surprize me at all  Yet another identity  Someone with way too much time on their hands, and more issues than a news stand ;)
