  1. The watch in the new "Rambo 4" movie is definitely a PANERAI PAM0127 "Fiddy" in PVD (Prototype)!

He got this watch for the movie production of Mr. Bonati himself! Thanks!

It can't be a PVD 127. The photo Rolli uploaded clearly shows no second sweep at 9, also, the printing on the lower half of the dial is too wide to only read "1950". Interesting pics of the PVD 127, but that's sure not what Sly's wearing...

  2. It was my 127, and indeed, it went away after a few minutes covered by my sleeve, leaving no marks on the inside of the crystal at all (and dried condensation normally takes much longer, and leaves 'rings'/stains on the inside. It was really wierd. I'm guessing it was definitely tempereture related, but it vanished so soon, and as mentioned, didn't look like normal moisture in the case, which was what made me wonder if it was some kind of condensing of the atmosphere present in the case

  3. So I was walking for the bus earlier, and it was really cold out. I looked at my watch to check I was on schedule, and saw a wierd cloud-like distortion on the inside of the crystal. At first, I thought it might be something staining the outside, then I thought it might have been some kind of pressure crack (like you get when you fold clear plastic, and it 'whites out') I pulled the cuff of my fleece over the watch and carried on walking for the bus. When I got to the bus stop, I checked the time again to make sure I hadn't missed the bus (according to the schedule) and the distortion was gone. I'm guessing this was temperature related, and probably some kind of condensing of the air inside the case, I've just never seen anything like it on a watch before, and wondered if anyone else had any experiences of it happening. The thing that was most strange, was that it looked nothing like the clouding of getting moisture in the case, but more a cloudy/milky distortion (like folded plastic)

  4. Looks great, D. A true one of a kind. The dial sure does make a big difference. Oh and BTW, I didn't know the gen was single AR. I always figured Omegas for double.

The Planet Ocean is double sided, the 2254.50.00 is only single-sided. I don't believe the original 2531.80 even had single sided AR...

  5. Well, finally completed the Franken SMP. Just returned from Ziggy with the last of the mods.

    -Genuine dial

    -Genuine Hands

    -Genuine Crown/Tube

    -Genuine HE Valve

    -Better insert from SMP chrono

    -Chief Single AR

    -ETA 2824 engine

-Old school case and bracelet (pins)

    omegasmpcompletemodsyp1.jpg

    Awesome project :1a:

  6. I don't have any problem with carrying ID or an ID Card, afterall, I already (voluntarily) wear a Canadian Dog-tag with biographical and contact information, although of course, there is a difference between choosing to do something, and having a government insist upon it... However, I do object to the government scheme, for several reasons:

    - If it is a requirement that everyone have a card, then periodic issues should be free (like an NI Card) with charges only being made for replacements in the event of loss or damage.

    - Owning an ID card should not be a criteria for passport application.

    - The different types of information should not be centrally stored. The government has only just recently proved it incapable

of dealing with such information in a secure manner, so putting all relevent information together in one storage facility, is just asking for trouble.

  7. So, how many Bond novels have you read then?!

Most of them. My favorites are From Russia with Love, and the Living Daylights.

The Mentalist beat me to the artist's impression of Fleming's mental image for Bond, and, personally, I think that looks somewhat like a young Rupert Everett. Bond is clearly physically described in From Russia with Love, in his KGB portfolio. That description has nothing about blonde hair ;)

I'd read about Clive Owen rejecting the role, on a Bond discussion forum, so considered it a credible source of info.

LOL... you guys are hilarious in debating the merit of DC as Bond......

We all know Jason Bourne would utterly destroy Bond hands down......

    As would Michael Samuelle.

    michaelgun2.jpg

He'd either use Nikita as a lure to get Bond into bed, and then just shoot him whilst he was 'on the job', or, as shown in an episode of LFN, he'd likely not even go to that effort, and simply walk into the bar and shoot Bond in the back of the head whilst he ordered his vodka martini. In terms of 'blunt instroments', they don't come much blunter than Michael

  8. I'd agree with By-Tor, that at the end of the day, it's down to personal preference, and what makes you as an individual happy, but I'll happily share my personal feelings on the issue.

Personally, I would not mod a watch just to get it to 'look gen'. I don't buy them to pass of as genuine when I wear them, I buy them as reasonably priced alternatives to artificially inflated brandnames. For that reduced price, I am prepared to accept less than 1:1 replication, and not too concerned about the individual minutiae, prefering to focus on the 'overall appearance' (although I would not tolerate incorrect spellings or wonky printing. But, that is because those are due to poor manufacturing/research, not because it makes the watch look 'less authentic)

Bearing that in mind, I would quite happily modify a watch if it improved the functionality for me. For example, I've put a second keeper on my 26mm PAM dive strap, as I didn't like the 'tail' being 'loose'. I have plans to send the watch for re-luming, so it will be more visible to me at night and in dark conditions, but, that's because I spend much time 'in dark conditions', so ease of visibility is a key requirement, and the cannon pinnion fix is included in the price of that work. That said, I would not have specifically asked someone to replace the cannon pinnion, as I'm not too concerned about it being level with the hands or not, it certainly won't affect the functionality of the watch...

I'm not sure if the color of the dial printing is bang on to the gen 127, but, I don't really care. I like it, and that's all I'm concerned about. I'm certainly not going to worry about swapping a dial just because of a shade or two difference in ink color...

In terms of one watch vs the rest of the collection, I'd just ask is it a watch you wear regularly? If it's your beater, and it could be functionally improved (ie with a re-lume) then why not treat yourself to it. If it's a watch which only ever sees wrist time when you wear your lucky shoes, then does that short amount of time wearing the watch really justify the cost of the mods?

So that's my opinion. Do it for you, not anyone else. Do it to improve functionality, but purely cosmetic mods I'd consider as secondary or even unnecessary, and overall, is it a watch which you would wear enough to actually benefit from the mod.

    :)

  9. I was one day away from PMing you, since I noticed you were very quiet these days. Oh dear, how awful, TeeJay. Feel better!

Well, it's okay untill I wear shoes, and the arch in the sole presses into that part of my foot. That's where the wound is. The primary injury is about an inch long, by 5mm, and a good 3mm deep (ripped the skin right down to the flesh beneath.) then there's the bruising, which is about 2-3 inch diameter. That's what's causing the worst trouble. Once the bruising goes down, the shoes won't be a problem, and wealking will be less painfull. (at the moment, I'm walking with my toes scrunched up so as not to put my foot flat in a shoe (although barefoot is not a problem, as there's no direct pressure on the injury barefoot))

I guess no crossed-legs poses for a while...I like that shot.

I can still do that  It's access to the camera which is proving problematic

All these Rolexes are giving me hives though.

Indeed. Almost makes me want to put my Sub on, but then I see how small it is, remember how poorly it keeps time, and I put my 127 back on  Customized straps FTW

[Edit for spelling: I wear shoes, not shows  ]

  10. Actually the apartment belongs to one of the Olson twins, and he and Michelle never married. Nevertheless, a sad tragedy.

I just copied and pasted the info, I take no responsibility for it's accuracy, that lies with the named source ;) Indeed, a real tragedy.

    What can I say...........I'm totally shocked :o

It's always tragic when the go so young.

    Ken

Absolutely so. Maybe he'll pick up an award posthumously.

  11. Sorry for no fresh wrist shots, I haven't been able to find the digital camera, and my phone's camera isn't really up to the task for showcasing a new watch. Since monday, I've been weari-I mean testing, the Radiomir I ordered for my friend's birthday in February. After Victoria was kind enough to demonstrate the Radiomir 210 on the 26mm dive strap, I knew that, although it might not appeal to most, it would be perfect for my friend's wardrobe. I've got on okay wearing it, but have missed my 127. I'm satisfied with the watch's performance, so maybe another day of 'off-wrist' monitoring, and I'll then put it asside for my friend.

Following a rather stupid accident (stepping on an upturned electrical plug barefoot) I'm not going to be wearing 'smart shoes' for the forseable future, so am forced into wearing my Vans and 127 on dive strap combo I showcased last week. I'll just update that to say, that the strap has now been customized, and has two keepers instead of the one (the 'tail' was bugging me, so I ordered a spare strap to take the keeper. The brushed buckle from the strap, has been fitted to the honey-tan tapered strap the Radiomir came on [feels very thin compared to other 127 straps but looks nice]) I'll get some fresh shots once I track down the camera :)

  12. Talk about surprize :o

Heath Ledger found dead in New York

Hollywood star Heath Ledger was found dead in New York in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28.

Police spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan flat he was found in, believed to be his home.

The housekeeper, who went to let the actor know the masseuse was there, found him dead.

The Australian-born actor was an Oscar nominee for his role in Brokeback Mountain and has numerous other screen credits.

He met his wife, actress Michelle Williams, in 2005 while filming Brokeback Mountain.

Ledger and Williams lived in Brooklyn and had a daughter, Matilda, but they split up last year.

Ledger played the suicidal son of Billy Bob Thornton in Monster's Ball and had starring roles in A Knight's Tale and The Patriot.

He was to appear as the Joker this year in The Dark Knight, a sequel to 2005's Batman Begins.

  13. I spoke to Tony last night and he said that his offers will be back up on cqout in a few days, with updated descriptions.

The interesting part is that his payment options will not include PayPal anymore, so draw the obvious conclusion as to what happened.

I still can't get over the quality of the watches I've acquired from Tony, I'm so glad I found him.

The annoying thing, is that Tony's feedbacks have all always been fantastic. The service I've received from him has always been exceptional (even taking into account the occasional 'glitch', but that's just the way of the world) and I've never read anyone saying anything bad about him, so whatever's happened, it's got to be someone who doesn't know the first thing about buying reps or how to deal with people. It's like people have said before about people starting PP disputes... They have far reaching implications...

  14. I understand what you're saying, but I have to disagree. The classic question around rep watches is whether the expense is really justified, considering the quality, accuracy, and so on. When somebody gets a gen from a respectable brand, its always worth looking into. After all, if a rep owner buys a gen, that means it has to be really special. I know that with my budget I would buy a gen that really meant something to me - and I know it would be a purchase I would share with the community just for that reason.

This is a board for rep lovers - and so to many extents - it is thus a board for true watch enthusiasts. But primarily it is a board of friends, and Tribal has taken time out of his day to post some pictures for his friends - that's us - me and you. Gosh, I'm glad he did, because the watch is lovely and certainly worthy of accolade.

That's cool, and to be honest, I know my post came across as harsher than I intended, even with saying that it wasn't intended harshly, I just feel that posting gen watches (other than wrist checks, naturally) kind of misses the point of a rep forum. Indeed, great for reference, always nice to see what others have, it just seems, to me at least, to be missing the point. I'm glad you understood my point, even if you disagree, as that at least means I was making some sense

I know it's a Rep Forum and I have posted a lot of modded Rollies long Time before you joined in here ;)

So why not post a gen one?

For some here for reference, for me too share a nice watch with other Members and Friends...

I love to see watches from other Members Gen or not...

If you do not, your problem...

    Only my opinion....

As above... It came across harsher than intended, so absolutely, great to see other's watches, especially as reference.

As for why not post a gen one, well, that's what TZ is for

FWIW, I really like Tudors, and am really tempted to convert my decent Submariner to a Tudor. Only reason I haven't, is that I'd never wear it, and it's be a waste of my time and money. Maybe oneday though :)

TJ... you're probably not gonna be a member of a board about asian women if your not into women in general.

Bit of a false comparison though... Everyone here is into watches, some brands more than others, but overall, we are all here for a love of watches, but also, we're here because we collect reps (for whatever reason). To use your Asian Babes comparison, folks on an Asian Babes forum, while quite likely appreciating a pic of a Hispanic girl, are still peobably going to think "But we're here for the Asian Babes, not the Latin Lovelies..."

As above, my post came out harsher than intended, no offense was intended (I'd've hoped the liberal use of smilies would have demonstrated that)

    Peace.

  15. It's genuine. And what?

Don't take this the wrong way, it's a really nice watch, and at the core, we are all watch enthusiasts, but, this is a board for discussing REPS

What kind of comments are there to make? Crown guards look about right... ;) Dial printing looks crisp... ;) Datewheel lines up nicely... ;) It's not like there are flaws or tells to point out on gens ;)

I'm sorry, I really don't mean to sound harsh, but lately, people have been posting pics of gen watches, and while they're nice, they're not really the subject of discussion here. If it had been built from scratch from assorted gen parts, then that would be something more worthy of comment ;)

    Wear it well :)

  16. They very well could be. On cqout, his profile shows that he is from Singapore but I read somewhere that his watches are shipped from China. Teejay should be able to confirm this..

I don't think he will be able to get all the watches the cartel dealers here can, as these dealers have formed deals with several factories therefore only allowing them to be the ones who can sell these particular watches.

However, for his asian movement reps, some of them seem to be better than what some dealers here offer. As Teejay pointed out in another thread, his SMP he received from Tony had the 3:00 marker, while some of the smp's offered by the cartel dealers were missing this, now to me that is a pretty big flaw, its not something small like the 'legs' of the omega logo are not accurate.

I believe Tony's watches do come from China. The return address is certainly mainland China. However, the 2531.80 I have which has the 3 marker, was not from Tony. It was from another CQout dealer called Deeswatches. The 2220.80 I received was from Tony, and that did not have the 3 marker (the sales photo was clear that it was not present, so it was not a false advert, as has happened with other people) However, I believe, that Tony does now carry the updated rep of the 2220.80 which has the 3 marker, and OMEGA as metal attachment (the OMEGA on mine is printed ink)

    [Edit to add]

There is a discussion on Tony's 'disappearance' from CQout in the Dealer Reviews, under the Other Dealer catagory. Tony is still doing business and still sells watches via his own website. With regards the prices he lists on his own website, he frequently gives discounted prices to his repeat clients. He might be prepared to take reasonable offers from new clients, but I have never done this, nor asked him to lower his prices. I simply ask him for a price in GBP (he advertises in USD) and pay whatever he asks for :) I would highly recommend him, and his products, to anyone.

  17. My vote was always for Clive Owen, but, apparently, he actually turned down the role. I don't think it's any coincidence that he appeared in the Pink Panther movie as 006, kept saying "I shouldn't be here..." "I'm not here"... etc, and was not (that I could see) credited on the end roll-call.

Craig acted the part fine, he just doesn't look how Fleming described Bond. Rupert Everett would be another actor I'd've said would have looked the part.
