  1. Some good suggestions here. A few questions for you OP, do you think your dad would like Quartz or auto/manual, classic or modern, does he recognise brand names (rather wound he appreciate them), large or small - he may have a large wrist that can handle a 47mm Pam, but if he's used to 37mm watches he's not going to like it!

Regardless, there are some fine suggestions posted. I like the Seiko or Hamilton options.

  2. Oh boy, am I waiting for this one. I remember as a young kid waiting to see the original blockbuster - queuing (im)patiently for hours to see it. I don't want to read any reviews, in fact I'm going out of my way to avoid them as I want to be wowed by it. I'm just crossing my fingers that it's better than the prequels.

  3. I'm not doing Christmas this year. Usually in the UK, but at the moment in Brazil and will probably spend it in a hotel :( before I fly back home on Boxing Day. So below is a picture of my Christmas tree.

Yes, you saw it correct, absolutely nothing!

  4. I've never really looked into them too much, but some of TD's stock some nice reps like the Dark Side of the Moon. Reps will always have little tells, it's what you're happy with is what matters. Personally, I don't get too hung up on if a rep is 100% accurate - because it won't be. If you really want accuracy then look at a TC Submariner or some of the Pams, they really are very close to gen looks wise.

  5. Personally, I'd leave it to the experts to either repair or replace. If they replace it you could ask for the old movement to be returned so you can have a fiddle with it and learn.

If you actually want to learn about movements I'd start with a couple of cheap 21J watches that you can bugger up errrr work on first.

For me, I just leave it to people who know what they're doing,. Anyway, all my hammers are too big.

  6. Yeah, I love Star Wars too, I grew up with the original trilogy. However, this Nixon is too big (typical Nixon) and well, what can you other than it's grossly overpriced. I guess it looks 'okay', nothing more, but for the money you could buy a real watch. Maybe Nixon are hoping for a Bond~Omega relationship. Anyway, does Vadar wear a Nixon in any of the movies? I guess not!

  7. I think that the rep factories follow what sells: it's just business. Omega is a premium brand anyway, it has been long before Bond came along. Perhaps Omega make too many special editions, but, hey-ho, they sell, so I guess they're doing something right.

As for Brietling, it's the same argument with any of the 'other' brands: IWC, Lange and Sohne, Choppard etc. Rep factories produce more of what they'll sell most of.

  8. Glad you are feeling better, You don't want there to be a "next time" !!!!

Thanks, I don't. But I have a feeling there may well be a next time. I seem to have a week stomach. Maybe I should try to kill it with alcohol, it's working with my liver!

  9. Guys, I seem to have picked up a bout of food poisoning or a 24 hours bug (hopefully that's all) and am being sick initially every hour but now after about 4 hours. I'm not even trying to eat food, but I am trying to stay hydrated. My wife has some funny ideas, such as Coke being good to settle your stomach. Well, it doesn't help to settle mine, but it does taste better than bile when you're being sick.

So, if you're vomiting - drink Coke ;) tastes nice, both going down and coming up!
