  1. Silly animals....my old cat used to like to play with my motorcycle keys. Always right before I was wanting to go for a ride.
  2. Years ago I bought one of those Casios that looks sort of like a blue dialed Submariner to use as a beater. I was cleaning up my gargage and remember taking it off and hanging it on something....and never saw it again. Thank goodness I did that with a Casio and not one of my gens! I hope you find it soon.....I swear I had nothing to do with it!
  3. I've wanted to build a quartz Bond Seamaster for a year or so, but my hobby focus has changed back to old cars here lately so I decided to sell my watch tools and spare parts so I could buy a new MIG welder. I listed the stuff and it is gone, then I ran upon this franken that Triplehd had listed. He was kind enough to hold it for me till I got it paid in full and let me say it was worth the wait. I'm not a huge fan of green, but I think I may be sold. The thing I like about it is that is so different. Anybody that knows me knows that I love NATOs so since the leather strap was a bit tight, I slapped on an olive NATO I had on another watch. The funny part (ok not funny at the time) was that when I unpackaged it, I was like WTF? I thought it was a mid size. I even held it up next to my GMT and it looked small. I layed it down in disappointment but later after I calmed down, I found it was the same size.....I'm an idiot! Ok, here it is. I'm thrilled to have it and many thanks to Triplehd!
  4. Reminds me of an old pic of my 5517. I like the way that case has lugholes and springbars.
  5. A Noobmariner with a plain crystal and a good no date dial would make most people happy. Lugholes would be a plus.
  6. Had a chance to work on the crystal today. Filed, sanded and buffed a few times. It still shows a few deep scratches but filing from different angles gave it a nice "uneveness" that give it a great vintage look under light after a good buffing.
  7. Well mostly gen band. I ended up with a gen GMT band a few years back and put it on a GMT rep but I didn't like the clasp. I added a good engraved SMP rep clasp. The endlinks were positioned a little different so I used some rep endlinks....no easy task because most rep links don't mate up with gens. I just bought a black SMP and I put my old band on it. Maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen a rep band that equals the shape of a gen. It feels great on the wrist....but the asian movement is a bit jerky and the markers a little green. But all and all I like it for daily wear!
  8. The old conical raut case and the terrible dial....completely wrong font on "Oyster Perpetual". The previous 14060 rep was better even though it too lacked the lug holes.
  9. Oh and Pokerpot...from my experience with a bunch of Sub reps, an off the shelf rep like this would never take what this watch has(a MBW might??). Say....your typical ETA vintage Sub....the crystal would have shattered long ago. That is if it didn't fall out first. Yeah I've actually had brand new Sub reps that the crystal fell out the first time I wore them.
  10. Yeah I'm gonna have to polish it soon....it's getting hard to see the hands at times. To me, a plain and simple no-date Sub is not for bling. It was intended to be a tool watch and to be used. The used look gives it character. Yeah this is just an old rep, but I really spent some time on making sure this watch would function well and be fairly water resistant. I had a gen just like this once and I really doubt I'll ever have another...I can wear this one and pretend right? lol
  11. Tone down? Are you crazy? Lmao! I know I'm silly....but I loved that old post about a gen Sub that was lost by a fisherman and found later in the hull of the boat. I wish mine looked like that one but I just can't manage to wear it that bad. Here it is:
  12. I'll say so. I built this watch 2 years ago and have worn it and abused it. It still performs as good, if not better than the gens I have owned. I should polish the T19 crystal but I think the battle scars look cool. This watch started life as a 5517. I installed a MBW ETA movement, bleached the insert and moded the cgs. I sanded the T off and removed the band bars. Yeah the spring bar holes look too big....but gen spring bars work just fine. I'm happy with it.
  13. Screw it. I've got a couple PMs about the dial. I ended the EBay listing and I'm gonna offer it with the Comex case that it fits.....a noob movement the fits. Dial dots and hands. I even have a rep Sub dial for a few of the markers. I'd rather see some of the rep guys do something with this. This stuff will make a cool frankenwatch.
  14. Opps forgot....not a Sub case. Actually a Comex case.
  15. Not really that I'm trying to [censored] an EBay auction (well maybe a little) but I thought that I would really like to see someone here or over at Repgeek get it and finish it. If someone does, I have a movement and Sub style case that works with it that I might sell.
  16. Looks like I'm getting out of working on watches....I've been occupied with another hobby lately and I'm selling off a few things. Some of you may remember a Tudor in a Sub case watch I started a couple years ago. If anyone is interested, it goes off of EBay today. I also listed my tools. I still plan on messing around with reps....just not working on them.
  17. I'm just wishing I had left this franken 5517 Tudor Hydro alone.....I really miss this one!
  18. I'd buy a few! Actually I don't think this dial is that bad other than the bad fonts on the "Oyster Perpetual". Get that fixed, throw it in a Noob case with lugholes and the correct style band....it's not rocket science. Our asian buddies could make a mint off of us on a good nodate!
  19. Well an order went wrong with Silix and they were good enough to give me a credit. The problem wasn't their fault, I requested a part that they tried their best to get but it wasn't available. After a few months of waiting, I asked them to just go ahead and send me my SFSO that I had also ordered (I was anxious because I had a gen rubber strap for the SFSO waiting). I just had to explain that because Silix has never done me wrong....though I was starting to worry this time but they came through. As I've said before...the communications from Silix may not be what you're used to (very slow and you usually have to initiate) but they are the best I've delt with and they always come through. Anyway, the credit wasn't that much so I was limited to an asian powered selection. I've always wondered what the cheapie modern nodate Sub looked like so I ordered it, mainly out of curiousity. I received it today and turns out it looks just like the one I received from Trustytime (that I returned...that's another story) awhile back....except the band isn't as good. It has the same dial with the bad "Oyster Perpetual" fonts. Other than that it has all of the bad nodate Sub rep features....no lugholes and a sel band. Here's a few pics for the curious like me.....yeah it's not very good but actually better than I expected.
  20. Well the asian powered Silix 14060M made it in today. I've really been curious to see what it would be.....it is exactly like the pic posted above. I'm sure I can get some use out of it. Maybe for parts, practice....or maybe a beater. I just had to see .
  21. I'd say that 14060 is just like the one I received from Trustytime. I've complained about that deal more than once, mainly becasue the watch was completely different than the pics on his site. Sel band, no lugholes and the "Oyster Perpetual" fonts are totally wrong....they look like old typewriter fonts. There just aren't many good nodates....and any of the good ones are vintage. See what I mean.... I'd say if a run of Noobnodates ever came along, they'd sell out quick!
  22. I must admit that I haven't been on here much lately....it's warm out and I've been riding (and moding) my motorcycle. I read 2 threads regarding this situation and I'm not really sure what to make of it. Gioarmani was such and active member that I wouldn't have questioned buying from him. One thing I do know, if a bad rep deal is this upsetting to someone....then one should not buy reps. I've been screwed and misled....but we are talking reps. Well actually law enforcement calls them countfeits and fakes. You are taking a chance anytime you order a rep. Kind of like telling a cop you were sold some bad weed.
  23. I had an outstanding credit with one of our collectors so for chips and giggles I ordered an el-cheapo asian powered 14060 rep. This ought be be good for a few laughs! Maybe it will be bad enough so that I can participate in one of those "worst rolex rep" posts. The 14060 I returned from Trustytime was worthy.
  24. Just a case of mixing up 2 items before shipment. Heck I did it myself once. He's a long time member here and I sure he will straighten this out.
