  1. I had no idea this watch would stir as many questions as it has, but all I can say is this. At some point, you have to chose if you are a rep fan or a poser. It's ok to be a poser, that just means you wear a rep in the hopes that nobody ever calls you out. Heck we've all be a poser at some point or another. But when the day comes that you realize that you appreciate reps for what they are, a watch like this will mean something to you. It made me appreciate! Here's what it is and why I appreciate it like I do. This is a pretty good representation of the gen as far as size goes. The biggest tell tells is the movement functionality and the applied Omega logo on the dial. The domed crystal is wonderful and the sub dials actually look better than some of the more expensive reps. Most people who have looked at mine say wow...they don't know how to spot a fake chronograph. But I like it because someone realized that a HZ2393 movement (I'm guessing) could be used to make a cheap and fairly convincing rep. that has functioning sub-dials, though not as a stop watch. And for around $100 give or take.
  2. The second hand is a second hand. The chronos do their own thing but I still love this watch for what I gave for it (less than $100). It is accurate as far as time keeping goes and looks great. The crystal is wonderful. A value kind of like the asian GMT I'd say.
  3. Correction, the chrono sub-dials do work, just not like a Speedmaster or like a stop watch. I'm not totally sure how they work. I thought the "faux" meant they were dead subdials. I had my 3 & 9 sub-dials set straight up Friday, now I notice they have advanced. I'm guessing the 3 Sub-dial is days, the 6 is hours...not sure about the 9.
  4. I think that any of the asian powered GMTs are the same as long as they have the border around the date window and the correct winding crown. I bought mine from Trusty. Added a gen SMP bracelet and an all silver bezel insert, but I think I'm going back to the two tone insert soon....this one already has many wounds.
  5. I'm loving the Tudor....but the granite... Ubi, I share your taste...I guess I just lack the drive. Cool stuff!
  6. This is a faux chrono 21j model. It is the correct size and the crystal height is better than most. I'm hoping the movement (though not functionally accurate) will be less problematic. The only big knocks I can really give it is the clasp markings (etched) and the shape of the chrono hands. The chronos are adjustable via the pushers even though they don't work. The 6:00 dial is a functioning hour dial. Of course the sub dial spacing is off but better than most. And no rings around the sub dials....that is a reflection. A great watch for the price.
  7. Well I took about a 3 month break from reps but this is my latest purchase. My collection had grown to 14 but many of the watches really didn't do it for me so I sold most of them and chose to focus on the vintage classics and modern classics. I was down to 2 reps. A 5513 Sub and my Omega GMT with the gen band. I have a Breitling SFSO on the way also but some parts I requested with the order are holding it up. I have my rubber strap sitting here ready to go on .
  8. If you're serious and you have the funds, get a vintage Tudor dial from ND Trading (they sell on Ebay) and a MBW 1680. Then get a Tropic 19 and get started. You'll spend a minimum of $700, more if you want more gen parts.
  9. Last year I bought a NDTrading dial like that and was going to put it in a MBW case but ended up selling off the stuff. I just can't justify having that much $$$$ tied up in a rep. I guess I'm just a cheap skate but I'd rather invest that in a gen. I don't mind having $300 or so in a rep but when it comes to $700-$800...that's a bit much.
  10. I had the same idea as you last year. So I ordered an ETA 1680 Sub. I had the vintage case and a date movement but the 1680 dial and case was modern sized. You'll have to get a 5513 as Alligoat said (assuming that case is what you need....I've only used 5517s) and then buy a 2836-2 movement with a date. The fact of the matter is that other than MBWs, there are very few Sub reps that will accept a gen dial.
  11. It can be done. This one would have worked, but I didn't know what dial dots were at the time and couldn't keep the dial from slipping. I ended up using this Hydronaut dial in a vintage case....it fit that one better. Then I parted it out and sold the pieces. I saw the dial in eBay a couple weeks ago but nobody bid on it. The Tudor dial fit in this case because it is one of the Subs with the wokky rehaut. The wokkiness allows a smaller dial. This dial would not have worked in a Noobmariner. Then here it is in a 5517 case with a date movement Here's what I have going now...this Tudor Tiger Sub dial is the same size as a Noobmariner. The date window lines up with no overlay. I've already installed the round hour markers from a Submariner dial, I just need a couple more 12:00 markers (triangle) to have it ready to go together. I'm thinking either a green bezel insert or a black and red one.
  12. I think I'd go with Trusty's. I've had 2 of his (both had bad movements but that's another story) and it seems like a good starting point. The dial is pretty good and a little vintaging and a coat of "Dull Coat", it should look great. I really love the 1655 but after actually seeing one....it is a b!tch to tell what time it is at a glance.
  13. Since we are going white water rafting, I guess I'll park the 5513 and wear something that I know is water resistant. My SBS nodate on a NATO.
  14. Nope. A Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom. I have a friend that has a Triumph Speedmaster...and he likes Omegas. Go figure.
  15. Yes I'm boring...still my old nodate
  16. I haven't been around much since it has warmed up. I've been riding my motorcycle (and mod'ing it..lol) a bunch and I'm still sporting my old franken 5513. This is by far the best watch I have ever had. I never reset the time. It takes the abuse (you should see all of the scratches). Still waiting on my SFSO from Silix. It's been months but I did request a vintage Sub case for a Tudor project. Gotta run. Happy motor'ing!
  17. Oh no! Do I smell another "worst rep" thread?
  18. I'd say the reason we don't see Tudors is because 99% of the people who buy replica are total posers who sport big name reps for the flash value. So it isn't cost effective to produce a watch that there wouldn't be a market for.
  19. I agree with L Dizzle. A little cement or clear epoxy insures your bezel and crystal won't fall off. I use a thin application of clear epoxy and then press the ring on in my crystal press.
  20. Here's 2 5517s. One with a replacement T19 and the other with a T39 from Helfands. Perfect fit!
  21. Yellow markers, shallow rehaut, bad crystal and the list goes on. Sorry jgpp63, there just isn't much to chose from. My advise is get a 5517 if you can live with the strap, otherwise you'll be beating your head against a wall....I've been doing it for over a year.
