Yep. That's what's on my 5517. Great guy is Eddie.

I would have to say no, really really nicely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to Repaustria & yourself, By-tor, for the kind words. If you could have seen the state I was in after doing all the CG work then you would understand why I don't offer it as a service!!!

Well By-tor I did promise you some photos of my modded 1680. While I was at it I decided to photograph some of my other modded Rolex's. Hope you like them. I have also posted the gen photo's I tried to duplicate as closely as I could. Gen 1680 Another Gen 1680 with white dial. I just liked the Cg's on this one better than the previous image. My MBW 1680 with modded CG's, Gen pearl & insert, Gen springbars, Gen Tropic, Gen crown & tube, better datewheel and a Homer rivetted bracelet. Another of my 1680 Yet another Gen 1665 white dial My MBW 1665 with modded CG's, Gen Bezel Pearl & insert, Gen Springbars, Gen Tropic 39 superdome, Gen crown and tube & 93150 hollow mid link bracelet. Gen 5517 My Homer 5517 with Gen pearl, MBW tropic, Mk2 hands, Gen crown & tube, reworked case & CG's & a Gen NATO strap Another of my 5517 And last but not least my Homer LV which was the first modding attempt I made. I only did the CG's on this and tightened the bezel. I don't give this much wrist time as I love my vintages so I may sell this in future. As I said previously I did as good as I could on these and am not saying they are perfect but they are good enough for me. Hope you enjoy them. Oh and BTW all the photos were done after following Pugwash's excellent tutorial he has recently done and edited using Picasa 2. Thanks for the info Pug.

Are Mbws Really The Best Right Out Of The Box?
Sherrington replied to crystalcranium's topic in The Rolex Area
I totally agree. I could never afford to buy the gens of the reps I have:- Rolex MBW 1665, Rolex MBW 1680, Rolex DW 6263, Rolex 5517, Navitimer & Rolex LV. The fun is in making them as close as possible. Yes and probably 10 out of 10 Rolex experts would have to look twice before deciding. Like Randy my personal favouirite and daily beater is my 1665 white dial. And for the record the 1680 dial isn't that close but probably the best we are going to get in a rep. -

By-tor you are completely right lets not make it personal. If I appeared to offend you then for that I apologise. However what I meant to get across is that there are so many variations of genuine 1680 Cg's that it is almost impossible to replicate the perfect example. Why? Because they are all different from the largish fattish ones to small pointy ones. What is correct is the MBW out of the box CG's are too big and need modding. Your point about the dial is mostly correct. If you know exactly what you are looking for you can spot the difference. It is one of the biggest flaws in a MBW 1680 as you can't mod dial printing and to buy a real one, weel we won't even go there. Even if the dial print is spot on (which it isn't) then the fake tritium markers are not convincing, unless you have theses modded as well. But there are variations of the dial in the 1680's and unless you are a Rolex expert you would be hard pushed to spot the difference (certainly without a loupe). Only them and us rep geeks would know and then not at arms length. -

Well this just goes to prove you know absolutely NOTHING about vinatge Rolex's. If you read my reply closely you will find that I said I have posted pictures of GENUINE 1680's with different CG shapes as some examples UNTIL I photograph my own MBW 1680 at the weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! All the pictures on my post are genuine 1680 red subs taken, mainly, from TZ vintage Rolex forum. They all have genuine dials as well by the way. So you see By-tor you can't even spot a GENUINE 1680 when you see it. I suggest in future you stick to OMEGA'S -
Tips On Cleaning A New Movement .....

Stick it in the washing machine on a hot wash and maximum spin speed. That should do the trick. -
You mean "screwed in your ring?"

I will do some decent photos of both my MBW's this weekend for you and post the same. In the meantime here are some CG's from 1680's. As you can see none of them are the same. I will also include a photo of some dial variants as even these are not the same on all 1680's as Rolex had dials printed by various manufacturers. Oh BTW forgot to mention I also fitted gen tubes and crowns and fitted gen springbars adding another $80 to the cost of the mods. So as you can see done for a fraction of your $1400-1900 if you have a go yourself. -
Not sure about the dial but the screws and the ring look real to me!!!!!!

Sherrington replied to crystalcranium's topic in The Rolex Area
Yes By-tor you have opened a can of worms!! I have both the 1665 and 1680 MBW Rolex's which, like Randy, I have modded myself which if you can do the CG's then the rest is dead easy (with practice!). Before I modded my 1680, I, like you, looked at hundreds of photos of gen watches to compare. What I did find was that there wasn't a 1680 with exactly the same shape of CG's as any other 1680 I looked at. This is because over the years most vintage Rolex's have been serviced on a regular basis and most have had the CG's polished which after a few times alters the shape of them some what. I chose a particular gen 1680 photo that I liked the look of and replicated the CG's to 100% of that. Close enough for me. Change the bracelet to a rivetted rep from Homer $50, add a gen crystal $65, add gen pearl to a good aftermarket bezel insert $50 and apart from the "Submariner" on the dial being a gnats todger too big you have a 99% rep. Date wheels have also been changed regularly to various styles by Rolex service centres. As long as it's a bold font and you don't look when there is a 3 in the month, no problem. Do this as well with a 1665 either white dial or red dial and you have another 99% rep. Which is a lot closer than the Omega's we all keep ranting on about. -
Fun Day! Compared A Read Dr Sd To An Mbw
Sherrington replied to audemarsdan's topic in General Discussion
Come on Randy. It's about time you got the Dremel out and reshaped the CG's on your 1665!!!!! They are not that far off but could be a lot better with a little bit of work!!! -
Being a Rollie man I am not really qualified to answer the following question, although it looks pretty accurate to me. Best PAM 111H? How accurate is it? Eddie has told me the following:- best version swiss eta 6497-1j movt (think he means 17 jewels!!) sapphire with ar coating correct serial out of 2000/ 0035 correct crown guard correct dial font the best u can get flawless I know the crown can be swapped out with a Palp one and a decent strap wouldn't go amiss. But is it really that accurate? I have also checked out Precious Time's but the dial font is wrong. Homer doesn't do the H version and this to me looks the best. But what do you experts say?
-
Best ones are from Homer. Send him an email at homer@mulberryoutlet.co.uk

Nice rep Pug. Looks great
-
I certainly agree with you on that score. His watches are works of art. But at what cost? I prefer the do it yourself option but starting with a good base, similar to buying MBW's and doing the mods yourself. Are the PAM's moddable? Also don't mind a solid back. Not easy is it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Thanks for the info. I am aware of the canon pin being too short but I believe they are obtainable and I could do that myself anyhow. I live in the UK so may check out PT as well. I believe Finepics is also into PAM's. Be grateful for his input as well.

Bezel insert came off on TT sub. need help
Sherrington replied to iglutikut's topic in Watch Repair & Upgrade
I use wiping alcohol to clean things so this will be OK for your bezel. I agree that 5 minute 2 part expoxy works best but be careful you dont get any on the case or the crystal. -
OK. Shoot me down in flames but I have searched until I am sick of searching and am still confused. As some of you already know I am a big fan of Vintage Rolex's and have highly modded (by me) 1680, 1665 and a DW 6263 along with a LV and a 5517, oh and a Navitmer from Josh. I really like accuracy. Anyhow I have just come back from Hols (or vacation) and having seen a real PAM I am looking to buy one (can't afford a real one so a rep will have to do). So which models are the most accurate. BTW I don't want a chrono and I have only got small wrists. I would prefer vintage but don't mind either way. Also what mods would need to be done if any.
