  1. Then you can get into the debate about the 3CROC "Mayer" dials.. if they are gen, then they are about the same rarity. Apparently (according to John Mayer) they have been through RSC service and released without Rolex making any comments, but most hardcore collectors still doubt they were born at the Rolex factory... You would think if it was a redial, then Rolex wouldn't work on it.... Perhaps even Rolex themselves dont know whats what anymore these days...
  2. That was a good deal for sure! I wanted that one but i was too late.
  3. The gen crystal looks much better because it doesnt have that HUGE etched crown that just screams "REPLICA!" How did you remove the engraving? I would probably try sandpaper and then polishing with a Dremel... I find the 16610's look better with a polished rehaut anyways
  4. I agree, dont send it back if you are going to service it anyways. Before you put it on the winder, did you wear it for a while or wind it manually? Sometimes they need a bit of a pre-winding to keep them going because the winder isnt enough. But i guess that depends on the winder... Some people recommend winding the watch manually before wearing it to give it a good jump start. For me, if the watch is dead, I give it a few swirls before and after setting the time to get it going before putting it on my wrist and never have a problem. When you tear your watch apart to mod it, take the movement to get serviced. Any local watchmaker can do it for you and you wont have to worry about it being a replica, because you've already taken it out of the watch. @ highoeyazmuhdee - Does ETA make a chronometer grade low beat movement with the same diameter and stem placement as the 2846? Is there another brand thats similar that will accept ETA hands? Ive been wearing my PT sub for the last couple weeks and i must admit, its been pretty accurate. I know it should be serviced though as im sure its a used movement pulled from another watch and dry as a bone. Well almost dry... I noticed moisture under the crystal the other day after I was out shoveling snow... I came inside and as the watch warmed up, it began to get a little foggy. I opened it up and dried it under a desk lamp and then put it in a ziplock with a couple of those silica gel packs to absorb the moisture. I'll have to for sure send it for service now. Ive got a couple movements i need to send out anyways so I'll add this one to the list.
  5. Yeah you guys are right. I must have been thinking of the vintage 1665 which is thicker.
  6. so back on topic... This auction price is insane. Basicly over $400,000 was paid just because of the dial variation. Hard to believe. I guess some people have too much money, I doubt the owner would ever lose his investment but I guess if you have a half mil to spend on a Rolex, you arnt too worried about investing your money properly anymore lol. The only visual difference between this watch and my DW is that mine is the 3CROC aka 'Mayer dial' which some people think is fake even though it has been through, and authenticated by RSC... then again I have never seen this exact 3CRCO dial before so.... I would like to see all the paperwork that comes with this one.
  7. If the plastic was taken off the rep it would have been harder to tell which is which If you didnt know what to look for, you would have a hard time telling them apart. The AR cyclops is pretty noticeable and its crazy how thick the lugs are on the gen. I like how the rep case looks with the thinner lugs!!! Looks like a very good rep. I wonder if you can swap the crystal for a gen like Freddy did? Dizz
  8. On the Yuki, the "110" isnt as bold as the "100" number printed beside it... They are two completely different sizes. It looks like they changed the spacing but didnt hit ctrl-b to make it bold before saving it Maybe its just the picture or angle of the insert, but it looks off. Hopefully someone can get this right! How hard is it to scan a gen insert and make one the same? Have a look at Freddys first pic... notice the 100 is bigger and thicker than the 110.
  9. Its pretty thick. The case, bezel and crystal are all a little thicker than a submariner. I'll measure mine later today unless someone else has one handy. Im going to stay with my guess of 18mm thick.
  10. Every dealer is going to offer something different. Figure out which sea-dweller you want (1665 plexi or 16600 saphire) and go from there. The ONLY acceptable 16600 rep was the Noobfactory's sea-dweller but its been discontinued and no longer made. So now your only choice for something fairly accurate is to get a vintage 1665 from Puretime, or buy something used.
  11. I could measure my Super Sea-dweller but I dont have a gen to measure... Off the top of my head its 39.5mm diameter and about 18mm thick.
  12. I always look at the '110' on the bezel also. Theres a LOT of bad ones out there.
  13. Freddy is right. Its rare to run across a jeweler or general watchmaker that has anywhere near the knowledge of some of the senior members here. I was talking to a watchmaker that works on the odd Rolex once in a while and has for the past 20 years. I was quoting part numbers and crystal reference numbers and he just looked at me like a dear staring into headlights. He was trying to figure me out, and even asked me if I worked for Rolex. I laughed and said 'no' and that my hobby is vintage Rolex. Even the guys and "experts" on the gen forums dont have the knowledge of the little things. 95% of the guys on the gen forums just know how to drop a watch off at a watchmaker and hand over a credit card when they want a new crystal or bracelet. Even some of the biggest self proclaimed "experts" on the Rolex forums are the first to comment "Nice watch!!" when some jackass posts a pic of a Noobmariner (yes JJA that was YOU haha!) We (rep forums) go out and research the parts, find out how close it is to gen and all the differences, order the parts, then learn how to install the parts!! Thats what makes this place so great!
  14. Mr Slimeball on ebay sells bracelet screws that apparently fit gen oyster links. You could order from him and hope that he sends the correct parts. An AD might sell you some screws if you take the bracelet in with you. I dont see why they wouldnt.... actually yeah its "rolex" so they probably wont... dizz
  15. I believe he used the MBW case but i could be wrong... Heres my guess: MBW case set with bracelet $1500+ Orig Rolex dial $1000 El Primero movement $1500+
  16. very nice!! My first Rolex was a 1603 black dial very similar to yours. I think the bracelet is perfect. I love the feeling of the stretched out vintage bracelet on the wrist. Most comfortable thing ever.
  17. Yeah that would completely ruin the bracelet if the end links were binding up.
  18. This is a scam site. It would be interesting to see what watch you actually receive. There is not copy of the zenith movement and proper subdial spacing... You will probably receive a seconds @ 6 version of a ETA 7750 copy version with the wonky subdial spacing. HA HA look at the outrageous claims on this website!! Check this out!! <snip> This Pre-Owned Rolex watch from the Daytona Cosmograph range comes with a Silver Baton dial, Steel watch case and a Steel (Oyster) bracelet. Watch has been Serviced by Rolex and now carries a 12 Month Manufacturer Warranty This Pre-Owned Rolex watch comes with the Full Rolex International Warranty and Box. Rolex Daytona Cosmograph 6265 Manufacturer : Rolex Movement : Automatic Chronograph Bracelet : Steel (Oyster) Condition : Pre-Owned Size : 40 Model : 6265 Range : Daytona Cosmograph Age : 38 years old Case : Steel Dial : Silver Baton $104.00 Wow thats a great deal!! $104 for a 38 year old pre-owned Rolex Daytona that has been fully serviced and with Rolex warranty
  19. I would wait until i had the gen crown in hand before doing the CG's. Then you can get the right visuals. You cant put the metal back on after you grind it away. I do all my own work now. Took lots of practice to get things right. crown guards arnt too bad though. Be careful taking the movement out. Dont mess up those keyless works Use a 1.2 mm screwdriver to release the stem and nothing else. Thats the hardest part of the process and the easiest to mess up dizz
  20. I think its because they look scratched up a bit especially the hour hand, but it could just be super macro picture. They look fine in the first couple pics. This is by far the best 16610 rep I have ever seen! I wonder what a gen 93250 would cost? I dont even think ive seen one for sale?
  21. The only 16520 seconds @ 9 watch uses a 7750 movement but it has incorrect subdial spacing and looks kinda funny. Some people build their own Daytona using a Zenith El Primero movement thats been taken out of another watch. To go that route you will be spending prob close to $4000 to make it all correct.
  22. I think you may be right!!
  23. Maybe thats why Angus is releasing prototype pics... so he can get feedback from us? I doubt thats the case but who knows.

Theres a lot of people that try to sell things for twice what they are worth. You sell it on ebay and you even see it here. If he wants to try to sell that $100 bracelet for $600 then unfortunately hes free to do so. I doubt it will ever sell. The big logo 19mm bracelets aren't worth anywhere near what the 20mm ones are worth. i see "buy it now" on the big logo 19mm's at $900 on ebay and they dont seem to be selling, yet 20mm big logo's are going for $10,000
